- LSO Principal Viola Paul Silverthorne with pianist Aglaia Tarantino, perform two pieces by Frank Bridge; Pensiero and Allegro Appassionata, recorded at an LSO Discovery lunchtime concert during February 2012.
This is British music at its best. I definitely hear the Franck influence. That recurring motif in the second movement is just glorious.
Paul plays an Amati viola from 1620, which is on loan to him from the Royal Academy of Music.
Great sound. One of the best violists in the world.
Oh my God, I played this piece in college and could NOT remember the composer. (I stopped playing viola due to my height--4'10".)
I am so happy I finally found it. (And a beautiful performance, of course.)
Really enjoyed the performance. And that the pianist didn't drown out the viola as so often happens. Great performance for both pianist and violist. Thank you.
This is close to what the viola would sound like if it were built to appropriate acoustic proportions. Sadly, not too many people are of Paul Silverthorn's proportions, lol! Thank you for posting this wonderful performance
Wow… 😮 I wish there was an emoji for “breathless”! Because that’s how I feel right now!
BRAVO. EXCELENTE SONIDO.
grand talent et belle musicalité pour le duo
Thanks! It sounds excellent. I shouldn't really say that - He makes it sound excellent.
Beautiful playing.
I would be interested as to what viola he is playing.
I play a Hoerlein (Ritter) 47 cm Viola alta. This viola has similar characteristivcs.
47 cm!!! That is an insane chonker you're playing! Congratulations!
47cm = 18.5039 inches. That is one *big* viola
