- Maiden voyage in our new Jayco camper, to Indian Lake State Park in Lakeview, Ohio, Monday, 9/26 through Thursday, 9/29.
We did it - traded in our beloved 2021 Cherokee Wolf Put 16HEBL for a 2023 Jayco Jay Flight 212QB. We came home after our third or fourth summer camping trip in 90+ degree weather, often rainy, where we found we were spending a great deal of time INSIDE the air-conditioned camper. We loved our Wolf Pup, but during those trips, little things started to bother us, especially the lack of space to even walk past each other or over the dog.
FLASHBACK: We ordered the Pup in December 2020, with the intent of towing it with our 2020 Honda Passport, which was capable of towing 5,000 pounds with the installed tow package. Between the time we ordered it and it's arrival on April 1, 2021, we watched tons of RUclips videos and read FB group blogs, and it soon became clear that the Passport wouldn't cut it, especially since the payload was too low to handle the two of us, our 2 dogs, and the 500ish pound tongue weight. So we started watching RUclipss on the best trucks for towing trailers, sold our Passport, and bought a 2020 Ford F-150.
BACK TO TODAY: So after those hot and rainy camping trips, we decided to at least start looking for a camper that was slightly bigger, as a possible upgrade next year, especially since we now have a truck that could easily handle more of a trailer. Well, the timing was right, because we found our new perfect camper, initially a 2022 on year-end clearance, so we had to jump on it this year, and also to secure a higher trade-on value for our 2021 Pup. But due to an administrative error, we had to wait a bit, but the dealer did us right by giving us a 2023 for the same clearance price!
While this trip was planned mostly to try out our new camper (which we love!) we were pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed this state park, and how great the bass fishing was in the channel, right on our site! We also got to spend some time with a good friend we haven't seen in about ten years, and meet her new husband. This was a great trip all around! When you become famous I can say that my wife and I were fans before you were famous. Best couple on RUclips. That is one fine new rig you have there. We need to plan for a get together to replace the Wagner meetup next year. I plan to get with the other RUclips people that were there and see what we can plan. Travel safe.
