Wow! Just wow! This is really the most talent on one stage! I’ve never seen this one before. I saw the one where Prince did the solo at the end. I had to go see the video after, I wanted to see them clearly, not just hear them, and I saw something pretty amazing… I don’t know if anyone else notice it, but when George Harrison and Eric Clapton are playing the guitar together their faces are so expressive that you can actually see that they’re “talking” to each other with just their face! You could actually tell exactly what they were letting the other know, something like: “No, that’s not the note I’m playing”, “Ok, that sounds good”, “Now do this while I do this”, “Yeah, we got it”. I don’t know if they were really saying things like that but with their expressions they certainly looked like they were. I loved that!
This was such a great choice for a video. So sorry that it had to be cut in some parts for Fil to be able to uploaded, but I enjoyed all the same. What talent! And the analysis was exceptional. Beautiful way to end my day.

The Albert Hall, 'Concert For George' had some incredible talent on stage too. And on this song EC played the most incredible solo where his guitar did actually weep.
I always believed that Eric Clapton put his heart and soul into that solo during the Concert for George. He must have thought that he had to get it absolute right.
Another awesome collection of talent in one place at one time is: "Roy Orbison and Friends --- A Black and White Night" from 1988.
My dad was a musician/entertainer and played multi instruments - stand up bass, acoustic, electric guitar, harmonica and could not teach me to play anything simply because I am left handed like Paul McCartney and Papa had a difficult time teaching me however; thanks to your music analysis videos not only vocal but instrumental, I'm learning a lot late in life. Still can't play an instrument but I do sing so - learning so much thanks to you. Never stop for I'm having fun learning all things musical. All my love - Angela

Just one error in this Fil, is the fact it was George who walked out of the Beatles at lunchtime one day telling the rest "I'll see you around the clubs perhaps..." It actually took quite a bit of persuasion to get him to come back on the part of Ringo... I've just finished the Get Back documentary again and he walks out at the end of the first part. Lennon & McCartney kept criticising his solos and telling him how to play and then not to play at all and you could see the frustration building until he walked.

@@tnmoppylaura5476 Ringo did leave for two weeks because Paul criticized his playing on Back in the USSR on the White album in Aug. of 1968. He planned on quitting for good. @zephyrbear The not playing at all comment came from George to Paul as in he would play it any way Paul wanted him to including not at all. That was a different time, during Don't Let Me Down.
It’s probably normal for any group that’s been together for awhile and has had the pressure of success on them to have those sorts of little eruptions. Nobody went anywhere until they actually broke up, though.
@@deed.3230 I'm sure it is normal to have little eruptions. The Beatles had big problems amongst themselves starting from the time Brian Epstein died. When the Beatles did break up, Paul had sued the other three, and none of them were speaking to him. He went into a deep depression. It was a buildup for them rather than little eruptions, it seems like.
..although maybe he was the best in the whole ensemble - he's my favorite!

Love Harrison and Clapton. I remember watching this performance for Princess Diana. She appeared to love it but Charles looked uncomfortable. Thanks for doing this video (again).

When I see something like this my first reaction is the same as most and I am amazed at this much talent playing together. But then I remember that many of them and more were all resident in Laurel Canyon in the late 60s early 70s, all just hanging out together, jamming, and influencing each other. The Beatles, CSNY, The Doors, Eric Clapton, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, James Taylor, Jackson Browne, The Beach Boys, Linda Ronstadt .....etc... Can you imaging what that would have been like?
Love this song, one of my favorites. The 80's were different. I miss those times. The world felt safe and cohesive. Talent was everywhere. The music is timeless. Even you in your analysis, are animated and cannot say enough about the musicianship between these talented people. This was a joy to watch Fil. Thank you and God Bless.
Thanks Fil. Great video. As an amateur guitarist I can truly say that most of the time when I pick up my guitar to play it weeps. It says “Oh no not this guy again.”. 😳🙄🎵🎶

And what a bandmate and song to share with Eric Clapton because George's first wife, Pattie Boyd, was seduced by Eric, and she eventually divorced George and married Eric (in a troubled second marriage). So the line 'While my guitar gently weeps' seems so emotional to share with Eric, when they had both lost the love of Pattie. But I bet you and other people had considered that too.

Seen the '86 Princes Trust show? It ended with Bowie & Jagger, McCartney, Clapton, Knopfler, Phil Collins, Elton, Mark King, Ray Cooper, etc. And McCartney & Tina Turner together was magic.

OMG, I’m so glad you mentioned the mic stand. That drives me crazy every time I see that video. How in the world did they not get such a basic thing right?
The greatest thing about this particular version - is the part where George and Eric are playing together - and trading licks.
What an emotional song to share and play with Eric and Ringo. Because songs are usually sung in the first person, 'While MY Guitar Gently Weeps,' it always makes me wonder if it's originally autobiographical in some way. Are there life events that created creative genius? The love lives of George, Ringo, and Eric were intertwined and sad. Here is the oversimplified version of events that Pattie revealed.
George was a remarkably gentle, loving, spiritual person, and, let's be polite - he had an eye for the ladies. All the Beatles indulged in the girls, particularly George, who ultimately wanted a harem. George met his first wife, Pattie Boyd, on the set of 'A Hard Day's Night, ' an extraordinarily beautiful and charming woman. They were happy for several years, but the infidelity was difficult for Pattie. George wrote 'I Need You' in 1965 and 'Something' in 1969 for her. Such beautiful songs.
Eventually, Pattie came home to find George in bed with.......................Ringo's wife Maureen. As the women were originally such close friends, this was extremely upsetting.
Meanwhile, Eric had tried to seduce Pattie for some time while married to George. Eric wrote 'Layla' in 1970, 'Bell Bottom Blues' in 1970, and 'Wonderful Tonight' in 1977 with Pattie as his muse. Eventually, Pattie and George divorced, and she married Eric. History has a habit of repeating itself. Pattie was desperate for a child, and Eric was unfaithful, getting someone else pregnant, so Pattie left and divorced again.
Being a human is so difficult. I don't judge anyone. What is remarkable is that George, Eric and Ringo remained such close and dear friends. That's real, grown-up behaviour! 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' was written in 1968, so not about these affairs, yet it is a sad situation and extraordinary that the three men would perform such a poignant song together.
What do these events show? Being fabulously famous, deeply gorgeous, and extraordinarily wealthy doesn't always lead to happiness. So, I'll get back to my better-than-average life with a smile.

When everyone comes out to sing and play “My Back Pages”, THAT was the greatest assemblage of musical talent on one stage, ever, including Dylan himself! 🤩🥰

I don’t think I’ve ever heard George sing better.
Some people criticized George's vocals after the Beatles. This proves them wrong; the soulfulness and power of his vocals is beauty!

Agree! George was a superb harmony singer in the Beatles but was not too confident as a solo singer. After the Beatles, he took some time to find his style. He tried a specific personal style that has been described as 'whining' during his solo years, but from Cloud Nine his singing style changed again. His singing with the Wilburiys is superbly self-assured and expressive as is his singing during this concert (and the Japan concerts).
I saw this on youtube a few months ago and I've shared it on various platforms and the answer is a resounding yes there is an insane amount of talent there!!!
George was magical. He was by far the best one of the group, IMHO.
My advice: Don't be humble. Just go 'IMO'.

I’m thinking that the list of musicians who participated in the Concert for Bangladesh (1971), was pretty stacked, too (Harrison, Starr, Clapton, Bob Dylan, Leon Russell, Ravi Shankar, Billy Preston, to name a view)

This is a loaded one since everyone has their favorites and their villains. But it's undeniable that there is a lot of talent up on one stage right there. I'm sure you could find enough new talent to do the same now a days but it wouldn't be a piece of cake like back then - it was everywhere you looked.
Dave Grohl did a good job getting the greats to play the Taylor Hawkins Tribute concerts. There were a couple I would have replaced (Sebastian Bach, for one), but it was an impressive lineup.
Oh Fil! You don't look a minute older now than in this video. My favorite cover of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" will always be Jeff Healey's. Hands down. He owns this song. Anyone's free to argue that, but I won't change my mind.

It competes when Bob Dylan, Roger McGuinn, Tom Petty, Neil Young, Eric Clapton and George Harrison did My back Pages live. (for the sheer amount of star power, I recall it wasn't as tight as it should have been)
And every single one of them sounded like they could make the song their own.
What a pile of talent, but oh George Harrison was just so good.
Funny you say looking much younger because you look the same to me. I think this is certainly up there in terms of the amount of talent on stage especially when you explain the individual talents each has. I wonder why we think of minor chords as sad and major chords as happy. It seems like somewhere, sometime it became defined that way. But it’s certainly true for me. It just seems that it had to be defined that way at some point. As always a spot on analysis and another great video. Thanks for sharing.

I think this is George’s best song. He had an abundance of song writing talent. During the tribute concert for George, with his son Dhani, Prince ended it with an amazing guitar solo! Think Fil did an analysis on it. Love Clapton, George & Ringo rocking out!
Life Itself and Beware of Darkness were pretty darn good as well.
Prince's solo was just too much. Acrobatics removed focus from gorgeous song.
I agree about this song sounding great in its cutback form in the singer songwriter tradition. Thinking about this, it's a pity George didn't participate in MTV's Unplugged series in the way that Eric Clapton did.

The most talent at one time I ever saw was in 81 or 82 was at the LA coliseum. There was 7 acts headlined by The Rolling Stones. They was Foriner journey, loverboy, the go gos, prince ( who got booed of the stage he was just staring out) but the combined talent in one night had never been done before

Hi Fil! Love your videos! You have such a great way to explain everything that’s happening in the performance so people like me who doesn’t have any musical background can really appreciate every detail, every voice, every note, and also appreciate the talent that these great singers and musicians have!
I would like to make a request, hope it isn’t a bad place to do it in here… I’m Mexican and we have an artist (well, unfortunately had) who was such a great singer, performer, and also had beautiful lyrics. His songs are really like stories, so you have a story for every stage of your life with his songs! His name is Juan Gabriel. He’s truly a treasure of Mexican culture. There are obviously a huge amount of them, but he is probably my favorite.
I’ve seen on many channels that they use the video of the song “Hasta que te conocí (Until I met you)” and also “Amor Eterno (Eternal Love)” when he sang live on the “Palacio de Bellas Artes” in México City (where he’s truly epic!). Maybe those videos aren’t copyrighted, I’m not sure, because I’ve seen them in several different channels, so hopefully they’re not. But they only “react” to them. I would really love to see an analysis by you as a musician and with your pitch monitoring software to see what you think about him. I don’t know how many Hispanic people are subscribed to your channel, and don’t know if others would appreciate this artist, but I would really like to see your input on his voice, to see if you like it, to see if nobody has tampered with his voice (as it’s been happening more and more and we know this thanks to you), and also so people from different countries can appreciate our Mexican gem! I call it OUR because that is how he made his public feel… like he was ours!
So hopefully I’m not overstepping making this request on a video from such great artist as these ones. I don’t want to take away the credit where credit is due! These ones are gems of their own! I really love their music.

I love the song, but I would like your take with your musical experience on the tempo of the vocals, in comparison to the tempo of the music. It makes it a very interesting song. I would like to know if you think it works. Thanks.

When I was young around when the Beatles were breaking up I was a huge McCartney fan as he went solo and then into Wings but as I became an adult I REALLY became a Harrison fan. I still love a lot of McCartney music but George was the best.

Great that you re-edited / re-released this video. I get the need for copyright issues, but how are these old performances to gain new audience, when the music featured is 50 years old? There has got to be a better way to ensure that the artists get credit / monetary support, rather than just say... nobody gets to see it. I think you make such a good point! Some songs came out so many decades ago that the new generations wouldn’t be able to appreciate the music and the beautiful voices of older music if it wasn’t for someone who uploaded the video. And with that, they couldn’t keep making money! You really have a great point of view!
I think George was special on the guitar from the day I saw the Beatles live performance of Till There Was You to the Carl Perkins live performance with George, Clapton. and others George nailed it in the Perkins performance compared to everyone else I remember how disappointed I was when I learned George didn't play the lead on While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Meanwhile the couple of live performances with Clapton I have heard, I wish George would have.
They were just trying to recreate George's microphone experience in Japan from 1966.

Re: mike stands, if you really want to get annoyed to the max, take a look at the Budokan performance of the Fab Four in Tokyo in 1966. Paul keeps craning his neck to reach the mike, and the mike keeps pulling away. And this was one of the few performances where there wasn't too much audience screaming, so here was an opportunity to have a good quality live performance recorded. But the mike stand had other plans!

I do think the "We are the World" night must be very near the pinnacle, even though it wasn't a live gig.
