We continue our tour with Alex of the medieval capital of Lanka, Polonnaruwa, exploring some of the great religious architecture and sculpture built by King Parakramabahu I 'the Great' (1156-1183 CE). Today we visit the 'jewel of Lanka', the Lankatilaka Image House, the amazing solid-stone carvings of Buddha at the Gal Vihara, and the site of the oldest and best preserved medieval paintings in Sri Lanka at the Thivanka Image House.
