      The back 9 is fun. That 14th fairway is only 21 yards wide. I only tended to hit driver up there if I wanted to intimidate an opponent. Most of the time it's 3 iron or 5 wood. It kills you getting up the hill but it's worth it for the views and coming back down again.

      It helps being on first name terms with every blade of grass. The competition tees are so much harder. The 1st is 40 yards longer and I can't fly the pond on the 8th so no getting there in 2. It's tough from the back.

      I wish it would. I'm going to try very hard next year. Lilley Brook has some tough par 4's and as you know life is a lot harder with a card in your hand. When I film I'm so much in the moment and just that one shot the result tends to be a bit better.
      Gloucester is much harder from the back tees, the 1st is 40 yards longer for starters.
      I did get to 5 there when it was a par 72 so I must keep trying.

    😯 Look at that 15th hole!! Dangerous looking tee shot, but your audio overlay was phenomenal! There’s nothing like hitting a 🚀 18 looks really tough, definitely no driver needed.

    • @thehairygolfer
      @thehairygolfer  4 года назад

      15 is okay but 18 is difficult from the back. Different angle and the hang time kills you if you aren't straight. Played it one time with the wind coming up the hill really strong. Hit 7 wood second shot on 18 and that ballooned too.
      I can't get over the 8th pond from the back so that birdie is lost and the 1st is 40 yards longer. It's tough at the back.

  • @ChiliDippaGolf

    Almost looks like your playing a course here in Georgia with all those trees. I think that's the first time I've seen you have to reload off the tee box. Breakfast ball! Hole 15 is my fav! Probably a pitching wedge for Terminator Golf. The launch procedures before you teed off on this hole was epic!

    • @thehairygolfer
      @thehairygolfer  4 года назад +1

      I reloaded 3 times on sunday. Having some difficulties at the moment. Doesn't help with the leaves falling. 15 is fun until you miss that fairway as I do the next day. Shit I was almost on 16 LOL Shame the camera doesn't show 18 very well but the tee box is just a little shelf cut in the hill.
      I pinched the launch from Appolo 13 and didn't get a copyright strike. If I see something in a DVD I think is useful I have to write it down. Memory is shot.

      @@thehairygolfer I know all about the struggles😂. I can see if you slice or hook it bad in 15 you can say bye bye to the ball. The clip from Apollo 13 was a nice touch! Cool that they didn't copyright strike it.

      @@ChiliDippaGolf And on 18, it's pretty narrow down there. I must go back next year when the fairway is soft and you get about 120 into the green off the downhill lie. It's awkward.

    Well played Simon +2 is a great score and could have been even better. You make it look easy mate.
    Thought about playing there this Summer when we were holidaying in the Cotswolds but hilliness put me off actually. I struggle with back pain and find flatter courses easier to walk. Maybe I need an electric trolley as I push at the moment?
    Interesting to read why you left there. I’m looking at joining somewhere and I’ve found very differently atmospheres at clubs. Some places are plain unpleasant.
    If you’re ever up in the Southport area and want a knock on one of the courses in the town let me know.

    • @thehairygolfer
      @thehairygolfer  4 года назад +1

      Hi Neil, it's a course I know very well having played it over 20 years. From the back tees it is much harder. The 1st is 40 yards longer and the 6th and I can't get over the pond on the 8th. These all add up to extra strokes. I mention scoring in a couple of videos time. I went electric when I was 35 and have never looked back. It can be a pain and you need a bigger boot on the car but I much prefer it.
      The course has been owned by the local hotel for a very long time and then it went bust. It was bought by a shipping line that ran it down and members left. The members eventually got a 20 year lease and with hardly any money they are improving it.
      Strangely after many years there I can't play flat courses! I guess that's why I am at home at Lilley Brook. I could go back to Gloucester I guess but it's been there done that.
      If I ever plan to come up your way I will give you a shout. Thanks.

    On the 15th I once stuffed it left into rough that is lower than the fairway. Hacked out vaguely towards the green. Got up there, couldn't find the ball. It was in the hole for a 2! True story.

    • @thehairygolfer
      @thehairygolfer  4 года назад

      That's a hard shot from down there Phillip, the rough is always lush down that bank. I've had a 2 on the 1st and a 2 on the 17th. I don't think I have holed out from anywhere else on the course. But my memory isn't too good LOL

  • @malthuswasright
    @malthuswasright 4 года назад +1

    On the 12th (the old 13th) is that the old green from when it was a short par 4? (Before they extended it to the horseshoe shape par 5.) In my memory the original green was tucked into the elbow, but this green looks like it's further round to the right. I think I prefer the old tee position for the 14th which came at the fairway at more of an angle from down the hill. But I must go and play it in its new layout.

    • @thehairygolfer
      @thehairygolfer  4 года назад

      The old green got smoothered a bit when they had to bulldoze the 14th fairway for the second time. They turned the old yellow and red tee into a very narrow fairway and then 2 years later it slipped off the hill so they had to bulldoze it a bit wider. It's now 21 yards wide.
      I prefer the old holes, short but tough. The old 13th was one of the best greens on the course.

But my away days are over now so it will be my own course all through the winter. I should have been flying out of here in 6 weeks which would have got me several months of videos. 246 yards of roll. In the spring the ball won't go down, it gets held up just past the 150 yard marker. Down the right in the summer it stops about 90 yards short. I reach the bottom the following day.
