As someone who deals with Spartanism everyday let me say it sucks! At least for me it does.I’ve been dealing with this for years and it’s getting worse the older I get. I have maybe 60 personal items to my name and I know if I have anxiety or go through anything stressful,I turn to my items and start purging even though I have nothing to purge. The feeling after I purge items is like a weight taken off of me and I can breathe for awhile. Then the cycle starts again. I’m constantly aware of what I own and it’s always in the back of my mind if I own too much. The funny thing is that it started out as minimalism and somehow ended up as Spartanism. On the outside it just looks like I’m just really organized and a neat freak but once you look closer you can tell it’s something else. I don’t even like holidays because I know I’m going to deal with more stuff. I finally had to sit down with my family and just flat out tell them no. Unless it’s a gift card to a coffee place or something like that,I’d rather not have stuff. They now realize how I get overwhelmed by gifts and are understanding that when I say I want nothing it’s a true statement.

      Hi
You have read my mind. spartanism will be the death of me. I have less then 100 items to my name. From the second I wake up, spartanism kicks in, trying to find things to throw away even if you like the item or need it. All the stuff I have now is only to survive. None of my family understands, only past judgment. I don't let them in my home now. I find that Spartanism is a monster and needs to feed, if your stressed, depressed or your mind is too cluttered, spartanism arrives and you need to feed it by giving it your stuff. I thought to kill it, have no stuff and the monster will die.
      But this is all wrong.
      We deserve stuff.
      We deserve to be happy.
Thank you so much for writing your story, I 100% understand you.

Same same name, every word, true. I want nothing. Visually, stuff is overwhelming!

I feel the same but it takes a form of not wanting to be a burden on the planet or other living things. I have to remind myself constantly that I'm doing a lot already and count off the things I'm doing. But, I've dreamed of if I were to end up single again, I would sell everything and live in a tiny house and buy as little as possible. I think these feelings come from feeling responsible to offset others habits of over consumption. But it's not my responsibility!

I always think of my favorite movies, The Professional Leon and That One Plant. That keeps me motivated.

I can so relate to spartanism. I have struggled with this as well. It becomes an obsessive compulsion. In regards to looking up to ficitional characters, I can so relate to Jennifer Lopez' character in The Wedding Planner. My OCD and need for control and perfectionism and intense focus on my career as a way to avoid relationships with others are things I definitely have in common with her.

Have you ever did a talk about hoarding habits between the USA and other countries? Are we worse because we have everything at our finger tips and are never content?

Yeah I think there's the element of a dopamine addiction that drives spartanism- that feeling one tries to recreate each time they remove an item is a little dopamine hit. Hence, recognising and dealing with dopamine addiction will bring a healthy balance to the situation.

Woow, me almost all the time looking for something to throw away ( or give out, even I stop buying things couple of years ago, I accumulated so many things in my previous years), and I’m not living in my country I’m leaving abroad 😢. Have wasted so much money on things

Spartanism sounds almost as unhealthy as hoarding. Both have sad results.

Just thought I would let you know that someone is going around on Telegram and telling people they will get paid $10.00 for subscribing to your channel and then promptly deleting their account.
