I always had a hard time understanding how the deflation of the balloon decreased the afterload on the heart until you informed me that it creates a suction when deflated. Hi Tony! Sorry for the delayed response. The inflation/deflation of the balloon is under electronic control via an external controller, and can be set to automatically adjust based on cardiac output, etc, or changed manually.
