I lived in Prince Rupert B.C. from 1974 till 1991, it's not called pr.Rupert Island ,it's called: Kaine Island. I worked as a longshoreman union local 505 from 1988 to 1991 then in 1991 it all died due to Canada been in a big recession so I moved to Vancouver BC and I'm still here. Prince Rupert was the Halibut capital of the world until 1971 but then Alaska became that. Prince Rupert BC is still famous for been the rain capital of North America!!! I mean dam, when it rains it really rains. Not much snow or sunshine just lots and lots of rain. Still a good place to live, it's mostly a fishery town and a shipping port. My elementary school was king Edward and Booth memorial jr. High. I don't know if they still have it, but back when I lived in Rupert they had the sea fest every June with the sea fest paraid and bathtub races, and the fish eating contest. It was alot of fun. I do miss Prince Rupert, it was my childhood stomping grounds, there used to be no McDonald's or Tim Hortons, or Walmart, subway, or Dollarama. Just the old Dairy Queen, my very first job as a cook there, it closed for good when McDonald's came to town. We used to have a Brownies fried Chicken at the pride of the north mall and a KFC but I think both of them are gone for good too .All in all it's a Purdy nice place to live, and it's a more of a laid back taken it easy kind of small town. It has a very low murder rate and low theft rate, and a good economy with enough jobs and work for anyone willing to work. I think I'll go back there one last time before I die, just for the fun of it. 😊😊
I hope you were able to see some stuff that you recognized:) Thank you so much for the history on the town. I have never heard of it until my cruise changed Victoria stop to this one. Nothing was really open so I didnt get to see much, just the trolly around town:)
