Let me know what YOUR secret to passive EQs are by commenting below!
This channel, and Marc is really spreading gold left and right - thanks
not being able to afford one :D
I once got sarcastic with my EQ and ended up with a passive aggressive mix! Cheers Warren!!
@@squoblat 😂 I feel you bud
I actually like producing into a bit of passive EQ on the master bus - Bax, Pultec, etc. Deals with the midrange muddiness early and makes boosting mid-range audibility more intuitive. Can easily hear what instrumental parts have low end and top end to remove to make room for vocals, drums, bass, etc. It's made my workflow faster.
.... “I don’t really care...I just care what it does to my music”. That’s what I’m talkin bout!
I learn so much from Mark he's just so smooth and can explain things clearly.. Thanks for Produce Like A Pro
He was a guest speaker at a school I attended.
I am a simple man, I see anything Marc, I click and watch... So much smooth knowledge shared
@@abelobiriayettey5985 😂😂😂 I feel you
Love this video! Thank you and thank you Warren! Most channels would never dare put another producer on their channel because of competition. You have a teacher's heart and we are all truly grateful!
It's crazy how big a difference a few little twist of a couple knobs can do to the feel you get from the music as a whole.
Giggity
The bottom end trick is worth the price of admission alone. Being able to dial in massive beef while perfectly controlling mud and flab is amazing.
That depth at the low end is amazing. Top end boost is also super smooth.
Pultec is a classic for a reason. From 1951 to now, still top of the game.
Why could I not stop worrying about that candle burning the tape? Haha
Great video, thanks!
I got to the stage where every time a video with Marc gets uploaded, I've already liked it 30 seconds in.
You're great man!
Presence in a mix is like a secret ingredient. All the character becomes defined. Thanks Marc!
He's such a gentleman. Props to anyone sharing good information
Simple, perfect enhancements; nothing like hearing that 60Hz boost come in on the singer/songwriter track. Thanks Marc!
I came to watch Atticus the dog sleeping on the couch. i also learned about EQ's too.
He also seems pretty passive but I bet he lets Marc know when there's too much 30k
Really happy to see another video of Marc-Daniel, and especially talking about those lovely Pultec's.
That snare sound is fantastic.
Man, when you put those guys in, its like the sun rises! I often have this feeling with hardware stuff, sometimes even if its not really doing anything, but its open the mix.
Excellent video. One of the rare when you actualy hear what's going on clearly, without using your imagination, and the name of the product, and without the need of settings pulled to 11 in order to make them obvious but un-musical.
Good job, man.
As you switched on the eqs, my jaw dropped. The lows are good but for me it's in the top end it shines, it is bringing so much more detail in a subtle and sweet sounding way, everything seems more alive and more real. Fantastic for songs like this. Thanks so much for another great video Marc, loving it.
More alive and real is definitely a great way of putting it!
I am constantly astounded by the general recording and mixing level of your material. The instruments and vocals are just so incredibly well captured. Thank you!
Money makes ish happen!
I am a simple man, I see anything Marc, I click and watch... So much smooth knowledge shared
Wow, I used to love this guy's old band "band of annuals" and I forgot about them until I head this song! Now I found the singer's new music! Thank you!
That snare is the best snare sound i think i have ever heard on a record. it has so much body and presence
Love how the Pultec brings out the brush strokes on the drums.
Incredible how it brings the depth and lush so subtly but yet so baldly! beautiful!
Thank you Marc and Warren for taking the mystery out of the music making process. I always enjoy your videos and its very kind of you to be giving of your incredible knowledge to the community. Cheers!
As ever, Marc's videos are the most creatively explained and heartfelt on PLAP. And sweet, sweet sounding Pultec clones indeed: great job, Audioscape!
Thank you Marc and Warren. So much valuable content explained by such a humble and talented person. Love this content!
Just want to say thank you Warren and Marc for these awesome videos. Have a marvelous weekend. 🙂
I immediately tried this on a mix I am working on and it sounds much better! Thanks so much!
Marc is the bomb! Thanks for having him in your videos, Warren!
Absolutely brilliant Marc as always and thank you so much for everything you do for us.. so inspiring 👍 thank you Warren and I will work on this !! Cheers, Jeff
Thank you for this Video! Those things sound absolutely beautiful!!!!!
Love all the videos with Marc! Please Warren ask Marc to do more videos! Really awesome guy!
That’s awesome that you use AS gear! I have their LA-2A, two of their V3A 500’s, and one of their EQP-A, which is so sweet sounding; all their gear is. I use it with my Tegeler VTRC on my mono vocal buss when mixing and all over when tracking. Thanks for the video!
So great to hear Jay in this context!! I’ve been a huge fan of his since he was playing in Band Of Annuals.
Got a pair of Warm Audio EQP's!! Love Them
This could be in top 5 of best tutorials ever ....you rocked it big time Marc Daniel Nelson!!!!
Wow! Thanks ever so much
What an amazing song!
Great and straightforward explanations from a Pro that aren't intimidating. Sounds like the kind of guy it would be fun just to sit and listen to mixes with and talk with about them - casually - learning passively, like this EQ.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us. I only have one passive EQ in my plugin collection and I don't like it - so now I'm looking for my best bet.
I learn something new every time Marc is on! 👌
Fantastic stuff! Thank you so much for this video. Helps to wrap my brain around The beautiful sweet spot for pultec style EQ’s
I love your listen- and mixing- experiences ,. really appreciate this ,.. thank you
Man, fantastic insight, thank you so much for sharing - this video came just in the right time 🤘
beautiful song, mix and production.
This mix is mind blowing!
that song is beautiful. yet another great vid from MMM.
Hey buddy! This is my all time favorite mixing video of all time! After seeing this, I use Analog obsession’s Rare on all my mixes. And I leave the same settings on. Also love this track! Great song and a perfect mix! Thanks so much!
Thanks for the tips. Sounds really fantastic.
Sounds amazing Marc!
Great video. Thank you, Marc and Warren. These Audios Scape EQP-A really sound awesome. I love Pultec style EQs on the main bus.
Sounds amazing and gives it a huge presence, thank you for sharing.
Great episode! thanks Marc!
Love the Daniel's videos! There are clear as a pultec
Thanks Marc - brilliant info as always.
Expression at start is like fire 🔥, Best Teacher ❤️
This is the first time I’ve understood the “mix into it” concept thanks 🙏
I love this vid so much. Watched it many times and bought myself a pair of AudioScape EPQ’s! Worth it. Killer stuff Marc.
I agree in every point.
To have an analog gear in the Mix Bus means an added value
The Pultec sound great, but with just a low and high freq's to work with, your just adding a smiley face to the music. This is the reason why I sold my Mini Massive EQ and got the Massive Passive with its 4 band EQ.
I look forward to Marc's Videos!
Great vid - Passive EQ' i use are Eckmiller ( i have a few including hp/lp filters). Various RFZ ( i have a few) and 2 White instrument cut only graphics. Just as Mark said, so easy to over-boost thinking nothing happening, then you bypass and its "WOW". Also analogue passives keep the bass as tight as F phase wise - great for vinyl. I love active eq as-well but passives are my foundation eq's - always plenty boost and cut.
Passive EQs are wonderful 3D machines. Thanks for the video.
Freaking love Marc and Warren! Wonderful stuff, thank you, I always learn from you cats
buddy you kill me with your sessions, thats all i can say...unbelievable good!
That song sounds amazing great job and good on the artist for writing that.
Thanks a lot for shoaring that!!
Thanks as always Marc.
Excelente episodio. Muy bien explicado todo. Saludos a MARC desde Argentina
I love these sessions
Well this vid helped sell another 2 EPQ-A. Fantastic, no nonsense walkthrough! Thank you.
Marvellous
'Even if it's adding one cool thing but it's taking away two cool things, never use it'. That's a good point actually! Some EQ plugins for example have a strong effect on the transients and that's something I try to pay attention to. Thanks Marc!
It sounds so good....with this recordings ......everything works....thnx a lot!
We are all forever indebted to Summerland and Shank. Thank you gents!
Splendid demonstration and sharing! Thank you, sir! 🙏
Very nice! It does add and isn't taking away anything! ✨✨✨✨✨
Reminds me of the Loudness switch on my old Pioneer receiver.. Gave the music a little more body and snap at lower volumes..
Your EQ has much smoother lows and airy top, very subtle, but definitely "there." Sounds nice..
Informative and digestible. Thanks homies
I been looking at Audioscape stuff. And that EQA is so good. It definitely pushes this mix to a higher level
Wow, such a well explained and useful video. Thanks!!
What an excellently recorded, performed and mixed track!
Thank you so much!
This Mix feels so great!
Yes! Very impressive
very nice colour indeed!
This guy is a legend!
Wow! Talk about "secret sauce"!
MDN, nice!!! So glad to be in this PLAP community!
So cool...actually real recording and great artist. What would be so amazing would be releasing premaster stems of this quality stuff to really learn from. Great stuff Mark!
Finally a track with delicate sound staging and breath without mastering squish...stuff as good as this deserves nothing less than k12 range...intimate vs the relentless punishment of todays general loudness wars despite it being long over
Thanks again guys 😊
Number 2 of my favorite mixers...no nerdy stuff, just real-life experience.
Sounds fantastic
Thanks for this.
I love the visual aspect of this video, how the top he's wearing matches his eye colour, the curtains, the sofa, his EQP-A's and even his console! Even the ring on his finger, the floor and the lamp stand seem to be all colour matched. Other RUclipsrs, take notice! ;)
I like Blue and Grey :)
@@marcdanielnelson317 facts. :D
It just puts that magic on it.
Thank you, I love this:)
Great video! Would love to see a more 'in depth' tutorial on mixing this type of music. There are loads of great vids out there for Pop, Rock, Metal, R&B, EDM, etc but there seems to be a lack in this area. (Unless I'm missing something, of course). Thanks again to Marc and Warren, as ever!
I have the 500 series version of these never though about using them for mastering definitely going to try it.
the arrangements and recording are gorgeous
Thank you!
Great demonstration, thanks! you get to work on some lovely music.......... enjoy the ride :)
Marc and Warren! T H A N K S ! it's Very Timely!!!!
Superb. I have the Pultec plugins and I have been looking for THE place to use them as I did notice how sweet they are yet the effect was just a little too subtle for the other applications I was trying them on. I'm in, and I hope they will be my "go to" for mastering. Beautiful production by the way. Simple is the way.
Thanks I have the warm audio version and needed a few lessons
i'm designing my own preamp/passive eq since i wanted something that could boost much better than my other eq's, its basically a passive inductor EQ where the inductors are lowpass filters for 3 bands, and capacitors are highpass filters for 3 bands, makeup driven by a 2520, so far its sounding really good and exactly how you describe here, you have to boost a lot to get a lot of change but even a lot of change isn't too weird
Always love Marcs input. Some of my fave content on YT, next to Warren of course ;)
I think it's something in the Q with (at least my) passive EQs. I mean, with a pultec inspired circuit I always thought about how you can get really playful in the low end especially with that what I like to call "push me/ pull you" effect, to borrow from Doc Doolittle with the simultaneous cut/boost. Really great. But what really surprised me with my JLM PEQ500s is what it did for snare when I strapped the pair across the drum buss. On their own, I honestly can't recall boosting snare at 12k but with the PEQ500s? There's a real sweet, fermented sauce spooned ontop and why I've maintained that these pieces are the only pieces in my 500 Series I have that I rave about , where everything else can easily be replaced with something else, no probs. There you go. My 2db
