I can relate so much to some episodes. When Jeremy Wade was fishing for Muskies, and he said it was the fish of 10,000 casts, I was like YES. Then he caught one on light tackle when he wasn't actually TRYING to catch one. Lmao, I was like YES, that's what it's like, exactly. 💯 I had a muskie on once, when I was fishing for small mouth bass. I was reeling in about an 11-12" bass, (I saw it jump) and all of a sudden, it felt like my line was stuck. 🤔🤨🤷♀️ I brought my then boyfriend along, who wasn't a fisherman so he had no clue either. I just sat there like whut ? Then my line took off and I was even MORE confused. I was holding my rod, my drag was set snug, but so a big fish could take line. After probably 10 seconds or so, it stopped and it felt like I was stuck again. I was totally baffled. Then the bass jumped again and I reeled it in. It had 2 sets of teeth marks from the tail end. 😳😳 So later when I went home, I discussed it with my dad, who said it had to be a bigger fish that took it and ran. We both figured a muskie, because few, if any other fish in the river I was fishing, grew large enough to take an ~foot long bass and run like it did. Plus, I was using a topwater lure, a jointed/broken back minnow. I was fishing the Juniata river, where we had a camp, it's a tributary of the Susquehanna River in PA. It's usually muddy and you wouldn't get catfish hitting a topwater lure. Once when I was older, my cousin from MD came to visit my grandma, the camp was her and my grandfather's camp and my cousins spent many summers fishing with my brother and I who lived close to our grandparents. He said he had been to the river fishing, and legal sized muskies (30" or above) were following his lures into the boat, but they wouldn't strike. So I went along with him the next day and sure enough, these nice sized muskies were following our lures but wouldn't strike. Needless to say, it was very frustrating and I said some choice words 😂 My cousin said "SUE, I'VE NEVER heard you say THAT" 😂 So yeah, I totally understand Jeremy's frustration. 😃👍🏻
Toujours un énorme plaisir de voir Jeremy. Sa passion est communicative. Il est infatigable, je l'adore ! Gros bisous à toute l'équipe de River Monsters ainsi qu'à notre pêcheur préféré 😊👌👍🎣🎣🎣🐟🐠🐡🐙🦈
In my opinion the lake looks more like a tadpole but I can see why people would describe it in fish legends. Non the less, I'm still a huge fan of Jeremy Wade and River Monsters. He's one of the main reasons why I'm a passionate fisherman.
Yes, Jeremy, they have sturgeon fish down in the lower mainland Vancouver on the Fraser River out in the Fort Langely area some are told to be over 100 yrs old, I wouldn't be surprised if they run from the Fort up to Alaska. Just now, CBC the national did a report from Bar on the Fraser River, that the Socokie Salmon can't get through due to a rockslide, they are attempting to make a ridge for the salmon to jump through so they can spawn this fall, some are getting through but that's over 3 million salmon to get through that part.
They do drink water. Depends if they were freshwater or marine. Those that live in freshwater can't drink salt water it can cause dehydration to them while marine fish can't drink freshwater cause it causes edema.
Sounds like the lake version of a marrage with the way Jeremy Wade describes the cold and darkness to play tricks on your mind in making you see things that are not actually there
Rodney A yes plenty of times, surf a lot in Pismo, had to go without wetsuit before. It’s cold and I hate it, but I see guys do it all the time. Today the water is 55
Actually, if Illie is a white sturgeon as Wade theorizes, its lifespan is well over a hundred years and it isn't known just how long an undocumented population such as the one in Iliamna might live. Taking 100 years as a conservative baseline and assuming that fish was around 40 years at the time of the tree trunk incident, that animal could have easily been 350+ lbs and 9-10ft in length (consistent with verified marine biological data). A white sturgeon of this size would almost have the strength and energy to pull of such an incredible feat without knowing the exact size, time since death of the tree trunk, and nature of the wind/currents on the date in question. An abnormally large one coming up from the depths of a lake that did not experience industrial fishing efforts and where sturgeon are little if ever sought after by the extremely small and relatively isolated human populations that have always fished the lake could have easily lived out of sight in its deep water home for another 60 years and grown up to (perhaps beyond) 20ft and 2000lbs. If one animal could have pulled this off, other animals in the same environmental conditions could obviously achieve similar size and longevity since that date, in fact it would be more surprising if other supermassive sturgeon were NOT present. Clearly, however, the dude does not intend to seek the literal same fish as this is the 3rd largest lake in the US, he is just working off of what little territory of his yet unidentified prey is actually known in the hopes he might singe out a culprit species. Now if Illie is in fact a pacific sleeper shark as others have posited, then yeah, dat boi done been wasted by papi time.
Every time I go fishing and I don't catch there's always Jeremy Wade to provide inspiration and motivation!

I vaguely remember this episode but forgot what the fish ended up being. Based on what I’m hearing here, I would guess a sturgeon?
