  • Hey guys in this video we take a look at Solomon's Seal and its identification features. Solomon's Seal is a very common plant in moist woodlands and it has dozens of varieties all over the world. This plant is incredibly easy to identify with it's egg shaped, alternating leaf pattern. The flowers are a yellow green color and are tube shaped or barrel shaped. The root of Solomon's Seal is edible and medicinal and is responsible for the plants name. When the root is dug out of the ground, you will notice circular seals on a bulbous like growth, each one of those seals indicates one year of growth. So if you count 15 seals, then that plant has been growing for 15 years. Because of its slow growing nature it's recommended that you admire this plants beauty instead of digging it for food or medicine.

That's great to hear! I've never seen hummingbirds go for it but I'll have to spend some more time looking at it and just watching because hummingbirds are cool!

Pretty sure I've seen this plant growing in the wild here in the FL panhandle. Gonna have to examine it closer next time I run into it.

Thx Josh! Question, will the outer bulbs grow new plants? Then we can harvest & spread it at the same time?

I wathed many of your videos, but every time you say, however, there is another plant that looks alike-- you NEED to show it.

I'd say that's a great critique! I've done it a few times but I certainly need to do it every time. I'll try to improve on this!
