    Hello from Russia! I am always glad to take a walk to the mysterious lake in KOSOVO, nature was a fairy tale in Montenegro!

      Greetings. Did you also hike to this lake? I agree that Montenegro is spectacular as well!

    I camped here with a few friends in the Summer 2009. We were there for a volunteer program, teaching english a community center in Pristina. Really good memories...

      @@MattWhitingsEurope Not really. There was a sheep heard and shepherd the day we went up there. But other than that didn't look like it got much use. Beautiful spot.

      Thank you Enamul, glad you like the video! I used a Sony ZV1 for this one, it's a great little camera perfect for travelling as it's small and light. It has a larger sensor than other cameras the same size which means it tends to shoot better video. Hope that helps!

    Now did you really stop to take a breath of fresh air, have some water and catch your breath - or was it because you needed to stop an film? 🤣🤣The stopping to film excuse has quickly become my new favourite for why we're always overtaken! The trail up to the lake was gorgeous, but then the reward of the Lake itself was brilliant. I loved your shots and editing of the drone footage to the music - exceptional work on that!! You were lucky with the storm skirting by you rather than going straight over. There was one year a few years ago that seemed to be the year of me getting caught out with the weather on hikes - an epic hail storm in Iceland that turned the landscape completely white. A trail in Poland that looked not too dissimilar to this trail and it was a complete wash out just before we got back to the town of Zakopane, and again with a thunder storm in Romania - caught out by about 30 minutes, but most of that was walking through Rasnov instead of being in the mountains thankfully. It's never nice, but pleased to hear you got back safely. Really good video, I do enjoy seeing the hiking trails and countryside! 🙌

      Ah yes it was definitely the second one - filming is very time consuming as you know! To be honest there is that, people think you're mad when you keep walking backwards and forwards but it's all in the name on an entertaining video! Glad you liked the drone footage, for some reason the drone didn't fly too well here - kept losing connection which is strange because I was miles away from anything that could interfere with it. Perhaps it was something to do with the border - who knows! Sounds like you've had your fair share of bad weather on hikes, it always amazes me how quickly things can change in the mountains. Literally one minute it's a beautiful blue sky day, the next it's pelting down! Crazy.

    Gorgeous place, definitely worth going. So you need special paperwork for the area which is in the three countries?! Good to know in advance. You were only walking slower than Simon because you are filming and also go back and forth. I don't understand why on earth they are writing the signs in time rather than in distance. Everyone has there own speed, it would be more helpful to know the distance. Storm and lightening is scary. A few weeks ago I was caught in a really bad one on the fells. I had a metal handle of a selfie stick in my rucksack, I kept worrying that the lightening would go for me. I was the only tallest object moving through the ferns and the lower rocks. I need to research what to do if I get caught in such horrendous weather again. All I was doing is trying to run faster.

    • @MattWhitingsEurope
      @MattWhitingsEurope  2 года назад

      That's a good point about the signs, Olga. I didn't think about it at the time but what exactly does 1 hour mean? Everyone has there own pace and it's about enjoying the walk. I guess it's based on the average walker but not sure! Your experience with the lighting sounds quite frightening just like mine, I wasn't 100% sure what the best thing to do was either so I decided to keep going. I figured that heading to lower ground would be sensible but I need to read up on what I should have done.

    Nice raw vlog! There is no way those other hikers have climbed more steps than you. What do the brown bears do to make all that money? 😂 amazing drone flight. What an adventure!

    • @MattWhitingsEurope
      @MattWhitingsEurope  2 года назад

      I'm still leading the way with steps I reckon! 😂. For some reason the drone didn't fly all that well here, it kept losing connection and breaking up. I have no idea why as I was in the middle of the countryside miles from any interference. Still, I was able to work with what I had and still managed to get these shots which I was quite happy about!

      @@MattWhitingsEurope some of the most random locations in Guatemala don't allow you to fly either. For the episode we are working on now, everybody has drone footage but we couldn't fly

    • @MattWhitingsEurope
      @MattWhitingsEurope  2 года назад

      Yeah it's odd how that happens sometimes, kinda frustrating too. I remember in Lithuania once I flew my drone near the city centre of Vilnius - it flew like a dream. I went back the next day to get a bit more footage, flew it from exactly the same place and every time I got 50 metres away I lost the connection. I think the problem is that my drone actually works through Wi-Fi which can be prone to interference. The newer drones work through a different technology (I think it's called OcuSync) so maybe I'll invest in a replacement at some point, my drone is nearly 5 years old so it's served me well.

    Peja mounting they get lot of tourist in Peja, most of them are mounting bikes from Red Bull training, also a lot of ppl just come for walk, Lake is all in Kosovo you need to pass mounting after the lake and you land in Montenegro, not easy to go in Montenegro is patrolled by Kosovo Army Police on 4x4 Road Quad and by Nato drones
