This looks wonderful. Schrader is such a fine director. I'm a 70-year old Canadian and know many Americans who came north during the Vietnam war and stayed. Now, with what seem to be long-term societal and political changes in the US as made clear from the election this week, I expect that this story will be very relevant again. I've already heard from several people I know in the States who are making plans.
Wouldn’t they be concerned though that Canada is on a similar trajectory with the potential that PP and the conservatives get in? That makes me question if something like that could/will happen.
Love that shot around 1:06, where he looks at the glass as a younger man and an older man. Cute reference to Leone’s Once Upon A Time In America (1984)
I know Paul Schrader is gonna get the best out of Richard Gere, and Jacob Elordi, he's such a brilliant director. Especially Gere who hasn’t been making great stuff in a few years, but Schrader always extracts the darkest and sincerest side from actors like this
I only learned about the draft properly about ten years ago. The true implications of it. It must have terrified young men to be made to fight in a country they had never heard of, and have family’s come and collect their bodies at airports. No welcome home parade, no ticker tape. Just broken traumatised men.
Yup. A small town near my cottage took in several draft dodgers and their girlfriends and gave them a spot to build a commune in the woods. They donated food and tools. Those people lived off a lot of big bags of soybeans for years. It wasn’t easy, but it saved their lives.
And now enforced military service is going to happen again in the US. Patriarchy HATES young men but they never, ever seem to figure that out. I’m so sad.
I grew up living close to the American border during that time....they were definitely called "draft dodgers" , I think this movie is doing a clean up because draft dodger might be considered a pejorative term if you were against the Vietnam war. The spoiled hippies of that time, many like today privileged college students, protested the war to the point that those who served never got any recognition only vilification.
😯Hold up! ✋ Wait a minute!!! Now, I've gone thru ALL the seasons + watched the 'finale' film twice:: am I seeing notice of a NEW season??? Or, merely notification that all episodes OF PREVIOUS SEASONS are coming available on the Hulu? I need clarity, people😡😌
You bring up an interesting point. This movie could be paying homage to those relevant in Paul Schrader's life. He had a brother who dodged the war draft in the US and went to Japan.

That’s totally subjective. You’re probably too young to relate or understand. It was a huge issue at the time. Young men’s lives turned upside down or being snuffed out.

@@Moogwalzer-fk1kt it's all the stars and stripes empire unfortunately.
A mirror of myself, I crossed the border from Los Angeles to Vancouver in May,1968 to begin the adventure for the rest of my life.
Wow, looks great! Richard Gere opposite Uma Thurman is awesome in itself. Story line like the genuine, good old days of cinema. I won't miss this one!

What a ensemble of great talent!!!! ❤❤very much looking forward to this
This looks incredibly promising. I always root for Richard Gere because he's such an underrated actor. Good luck to this one.
Finally, a movie to look forward to! Wown
Canadian here: we say Draft Dodger. I have never in my 34 years heard "Draft Refugee". My parents were from that era, it was very common.

Paul Schrader's wild strawberries ?
It is wonderful to know that all these stories are about me and they are happening in me here and NOW.
Richard, Uma, Jacob ❤❤❤❤❤❤
WILL BE WATCHING FOR JACOB ELORDI

Looks like Michael Imperioli is playing Martin Scorsese.

I just know im gonna love this
I can't wait to see this!!! Schrader ❤
I mean, I'm a Gere fan, but Jacob Elordi as his younger self?? Really?? They look nothing alike!
A fan of both here. Looking forward to see how he shrank 7" over his lifetime.

Looks good.
Name of the song someone?
You had me at Michael Imperioli \[ °_°]/
Right? I'm actually a bigger fan of Michael Imperioli than I am of Richard Gere! Michael has some really amazing work .
I thought it was Eugene Levy for a second, not Michael Imperioli.
Canada here....No Canadians in a movie called Oh Canada ....go away
Maybe cause it’s about America draft dodgers? Ya think?
@@missmayflower moving to canada. stop stealing our name and culture.
Bro cast his younger self as Jacob Elordi #kingshit
Sooooo they don’t go around a Tim Hortons? What gives eh ?
the title makes me think of South Park

Do you know the first music that plays in the trailer, until 0:30??
@@kevyt21, no, it is Matthew Houck, who performs under the name Phosphorescent, that did most of the music.
Gere got better with age.
Grande maestro!
