    I got my base weight dialed in pretty well, it’s the trinkets and luxury items that I need to rethink.

    And an AMEN fir the Ziploc bags! Light, waterproof, reusable and cheap

    Use baking soda for tooth brushing rather than toothpaste tabs. You can also use it for bug bites, and in trail laundry with trail soap. It also serves as a makeshift electrolyte!

    Nice video as always! I like the hoarding comment you made, definitely hits home. For repacking food I like using food storage bags with a simple knot instead of ziplock. Very light and feels less likely to fail.

    Mini Binder clips, like the ones you use in an office. I carry a couple of these and use them for clothespins and to hang stuff off the back of my pack or hold my heat cozy together.

      I use a few baby diaper pins for the same purpose but I do like the idea of the mini binder clips for more functionality.

    I love all things ultra-light. It means I can jam my pack with even more “gear I need” when I’m out on trail. I live by the Boy Scouts motto; “Be Prepared.” (Trail name: Inspector Gadget) 😂

    I carry 4 small C-shaped bread sack closure plastic clips to use as clothespins to hang damp items like socks or underwear from a small line across the nside of in my tent at night to dry them off. All four clips together weigh a couple of grams and fit into my ditty bag.

    I am a gram winnie, but i place durability over weight. Nice mix of items, only wish you had more. Really liking the razor knife. I am currently using a small swiss-army knife, The razor is smaller and lighter, which fits my needs, mainly first-aid and gear repair. The toothbrush head is awesome too, but won't work for me as i don't carry any kind of mess kit.

    How about a home made hiking kilt made out of that window plastic and a few bits of sticky back velcro

    Amen brother! 🙌 my biggest weight savings came from changes I made to my big 3. Still not the lightest stuff on the market but I learned last year that I'm carrying way too much food so that'll be my focus for this year. Looking at dropping roughly a half a pound per day 👌

    $100 to save seven ounces isn’t too bad, when you look at how much you save versus pay for, say, a DCF tent.

    Scissors are more useful than a knife on the trail. Better for fabric repairs

    Paid $400 for a 4oz rain jacket. Illicit drugs may be cheaper per ounce. Lol

    As a knife guy - there are MANY knives for less than $30 that weigh around 2 oz....Those little razor blade things are useless...IMHO

    • @user-hz2hp7yn4d
      @user-hz2hp7yn4d 3 месяца назад

      Depends on what you want the knife for. For some, the little razor is all they need. For others...such as bushcrafting inclined, it's not .

      I carry a slightly modified Spyderco ladybug K390 with a forced patina and an blaze orange emergency whistle lanyard that gives me a pinky grip, as will as a Victorinox Nailclip 580. Total weight: 1.85 oz, Includes: Primary K390 blade (won't go dull over the course of months, but careful for rusting), secondary victorinox blade in case I lose one, victorinox scissors, nail clippers, nail file, tweezers, mini firefly ferro-rod (for emergency, I never used it, but won't use the toothpick ever either), and an emergency whistle. Do I need all of that? probably overkill to cary the extra Ladybug, but I like it and like having it in the woods and messing around to pass the time sometimes.
      I would highly recommend the Nailclip 580 for long-distance hikers, pretty much the perfect backpacking knife. It is awesome for foot maintenance and basic trail tasks.

    Gotta love when people promote plastic garbage products just to save weight. And then go out in nature. 😞

    • @andymytys
      @andymytys 3 месяца назад

      Yeah, but the plastic I use is things like reused grocery bags. It’s recycling and extending use of a product that was pretty much forced on me.
      Breaking down materials like modern pack cloth and fleece, I’m willing to bet most of us are carrying some sort of “plastic” or even less environmentally friendly chemicals.
