Hi Ken, did DJI ever get back to you on this? I have the Air 2 and Pro 2 with the Smart Controller but after experiencing some of the same issue with that firmware I'm not updating again until they acknowledge this is a problem.
Excellent video. I have the same problem only worse. I was loosing connection after 5 ft and this is after a firmware update I did this past Tuesday. DJI is useless for suppport - three dropped calls. Question, the DJI Assistant won't recognize the smart controller but does the 2 PRO. Should I just reset the smart controller and start over again??? Thanks for the help in advance.

100% this is what mine is doing. Sent my pro 2 back to DJI as I thought it was a sensor issue or something with landing as it wouldn’t. They said it was fine, I didn’t think it would be the smart controller but guess what, it’s just done it again on me over a cliff at sea. Tried to land its self, I had to turn off then on again to gain control of the drone. Again this has risked my drone. Will be reporting this back to DJI but ever since a firmware update last year I remember, it hasn’t been right.
I am right there with you man! Same experiences on a couple of occasions. I actually had to perform a return to home via pushing the button on the controller, which thank goodness did bring the M2P back to me...even though it stated on the controller the aircraft had disconnected. 😅
Same here! I have the Mavic 2 zoom and have never had an issue until firmware update. Sometimes at startup, I won't have video feed and have to turn everything off and back on. That has never happened until update.

Hi Ken, I fly a Mavic 2 pro. My smart controller suddenly started freezing 3-5mins into flights. The screen goes blank and nothing works except the controls that helps me to land safely… Any suggestions. I have never upgraded the firmware…
So I have a smart controller and Mavic 2 pro - when I out to fly, the screen goes back to the login and I lose my camera view. Is that kind of what you’re referring to in your video? Thanks for taking my question.

Just got a new or refurbished Mavic two pro today and went to connect to my smart controller and it fails every time I did the update on the computer the drone will update the smart controller fails at the last second. Wondering if downgrading would help my situation or try and deal with Dji? I have spent three hours on this already with no success. I also have distance issues and freeze up issues. Any advice would be great thank you in advance!

I have the same pretty bad problem, I have MA2 with smart controller and my controller doesn't allow me to go further than 150ft and also sometimes I can not make turns neither to right nor to left, do you have any suggestions for me?
So far I have used the Smart controller with the Mini 2, but it's time to sell it. I switched the smart controller to Air2 and today I had a screen error on my first flight. The DJI Assitant only shows the firmware version V01.0.0920 and I can't downgrade it. What should I do? It Screwed me.
I shoot over a thousand homes a year and fly about 5 days a week. That being said I have the latest firmware and have had the same performance a year and half ago with the smart controller and the mavic 2 pro that I do now with the same setup. I'm wondering if the hangup is happening when people pair it with another DJI product and the second it gets a weak signal it tries to find the other paired drone and drops the current drone signal. I only fly the mavic 2 pro and have never paired it with another DJI drone. See if you can unpair and "forget" the one drone in the settings under the latest firmware and replicate the same issue. If it fixes your issue it's the app trying to connect to the other paired drone. If you try it out let me know the outcome of that experiment.
I didn’t have this exact issue with disconnect and/or distance. But I did have lagging video when using the MA2 with the SC. I did a refresh of the firmware and switched off the external hdmi output in the settings. Seems to be helping my issue. But I agree, DJI needs to look into the programming and update it. Yesterday I lost a DJI Mavic 2 Pro while flying with the smart Controller. After approx. 10 min of Flight time the AC disconnected completely and I wasn't able to do anything. It landed somewhere not too far away from the Homepoint. Sadly it is right on a Cliff which is unreachable. I am trying to figure out what happend since I don't see any fault in my flight. I was only about 600m away and 200m High with pretty much nothing (that I am aware of) blocking the Signal. Any Help is much appreciated.
I have just encountered that problem screen functions work but no joysticks -of course DJI wants me to send them the controller and Macic2Pro-any ideas is your prblem still hapening?

I was wondering why my smart controller tripod, and sport mode don’t work on my Mavic 2 pro, but when I use my Mavic air 2 the tripod and sport mode works ? Do any of you guys know why?
Seems like a lot of people are experiencing different issues with their SC. I’ve been having issues with flight data and (at times) the occasional lag. It wasn’t enough for me to consider downgrading, but since I don’t own the Air 2; it would seem like the smart thing to do. Thanks for sharing! Ken.

Hey Ken, Thanks for the video. I keep contemplating about switching from my Ipad pro 10in to the Smart controller for my M2Z. A couple things with the SC that make me hesitate. Screen size is one, price is another. I've heard other people have connectivity issues as well. Now this. If I get an SC now first thing I would have to is downgrade the firm ware. Decisions Decisions.....

Thanks for bringing this up - I thought i was the only one. I was 2,500 feet away and lost all HD Signal and RC Signal out of nowhere. Another instance I only had the drone like 30 feet away and it disconnected completely and the app froze.
Hi! I am experiencing this issue now, even on v01.01.0072, which seems to be the latest one. I am trying to downgrade the firmware but I don't get the options you get at 2:26. Do you know where can I download the old firmware from? Their customer service is completely clueless.

Thanks Ken! I also have had this experience with my M2P! I updated the SC because I thought it was necessary (I don't own the Air2). My SC also froze with these very odd colors like purple.
I'm wondering if you happen to know what the latest update is that will work with the M2P with the smart controller that doesn't have these disconnection issues?

I don't have a Mavic Air 2 but updated smart controller firmware anyway because I always felt it was best practice to stay with the latest updates. Now I wonder if I made a mistake. I only have one M2 Pro and fly short distances but haven't noticed any issues yet. Will be following closely thanks for the heads up

Hi Ken! Thanks for the video, unfortunately it's been several months ago. I have the mavic 2 pro, and the smart controller. Got them together in a bundle back in August. At first I had no problems, but guessing on the upgrade...I have so many glitches, and transmission loss to the controller now. Very frustrating. The current version details are

Questions / my smart controller keeps crashing and either freezing the video on the controller or the app crashes and my options are to wait or restart the app. Neither of these options are particularly reliable. The drone air2s still returns to home but doesn’t exactly inspire confidence. Does anyone else have this issue ? And is there away to resolve it ? Updates don’t seem to have much effect.

this remote is just not compatible with the air 2s. That has occusync 3 and the remote and mavic 2 pro have occusync 2. they have tried to make it compatible by changing the firmware but that just does not work. time for DJI to make a new smartcontroller with occusync 3 for the newer drones.
Any testing since the latest firmware update on this issue?
I only have the M2P and experienced the same issues with the latest firm. Worse part is that I had the app disconnect on the older 700 firm before not often but by going to recent apps on the SC and closing out of DJI go 4 completely then restarted the app it would get my fpv and data back. The app scares you as it says aircraft disconnected but the SC still had a blue light on indicating a connection and I was able to control my M2P. Now I have experienced even worse issue, I had the app disconnect, thought nothing of it had VLOS and control but on the 820 firm so I restarted the app and it said your home location has been updated (wow!), then I lost connection again on the way back about 400 feet to home at 250 ft up. App said craft disconnected yet the light was blue and again I still had control of the drone but no FPV and data to assist my return (which was a nice to have at that point being that close) I did close out DJI go 4 again restarted it and bam ! got your home point has been updated speech again ! I landed and looked at my flight records and on one flight I had three separate flight records ! One was me taking off at home, second indicated that I took off at 300Ft 550 feet over the hill and the second was that I again took off at 250Ft over the hill 400ft away from home. So that is super scary because if I was to loose the TX connectivity for real it would return to the new home point and land in the woods if I was to loose the SC connection for real and not able to reconnect with the SC which was a real possibility. Today I got yet another new issue where after my third flight the SC said that my current mode is not compatible with my aircraft and it started to automatically switch to the so called right compatible mode and connected okay after 45 seconds. Again I only fly one drone with my SC which is the M2P. So I can for sure say I do not feel safe with the 820firm and I'm going back to 700. Thanks for yet another great video. Big fan !
purchased the mp2 a few weeks ago and while learning the drone i have flown it in my neighborhood a number of times with no problems til today... While flying i got some notice about signal interference the view on my smart controller was also a little choppy a few seconds later it said disconnected... A minute or so later it got the signal again and we brought it back down. the only thing different is we got a pair of used dji goggles and my daughter was wearing them watching as i flew the drone..???????
I bought a Mavic 2 Zoom recently. Yesterday mine was out only a few hundred feet and suddenly I got the prompt that it had lost signal. Luckily it was in close enough that I flew it in by sight and landed it. I turned the controller off and restarted it and it worked fine after that. It has me gun-shy now though because I am concerned that it will get me out a long ways and I won't be able to get it back in.
Thanks for the heads up. You may have done this already but if not..I would also post to the DJI Forum so they can get over to their engineers and start looking at. Not surprised by this though....every time there's new firmware...something gets fixed but many times something else breaks. They're may be a thread already going on this issue (I haven't looked) but that's always the best place to get DJI's attention.
Wow! Since I do not have a Mavic Air 2, and do not plan to get one, I did NOT do that update. Now, I am happy that I did not do it, and I have had zero problems flying my Mavic 2 Pro. BUT I hate always getting the message that there is a newer version for the Smart Controller. Thanks for the heads up on this problem.
Yeh, I had issues with the new update on the MP2, no gimbal icon, gimbal was limp and not touch to focus! I reinstalled the firmware and it seems to be ok for now, the only thing is the compass calibrate before every flight which is a pain in the ass!
Similar problems here - I use my SC frequently as a second screen for a client to watch and I could not keep it connected. I had to re-bind it over and over and try to set up as a second controller but when I reconnected my standard controller it would lose the bind from the SC. Very annoying. Downgrading the firmware now..
I’ve had this issue with my Mavic 2 zoom since I got it in 2019 when it gets out to about 1500 ft so the latest update wouldn’t be my problem. Sure wish I could figure it out though Because it scares the crap out of me and I have to hit the return the home button to get it back.

Yep! Me too. Bloody annoying. Thanks for the suggestion. I will try this. I have also been experiencing multiple disconnections and glitches when trying to use the DJI FLY APP for my Mavic Air 2. My Smart Controller shows the DJI FLY APP to be running an earlier version of DJI FLY of only v.1.1.6 (whereas the RC that came with the Mavic Air 2 can be upgraded to the latest version of v.1.2.1). Meanwhile, my Mavic Air 2 is running the latest firmware of v.1.00.0460, which recommends using DJI FLY APP versions "1.2.0 or greater" (which the Smart Controller DOESN'T HAVE and doesn't Automatically UPDATE). So, with the Smart Controller updated to the latest v.01.00.0820, it only allows the older DJI FLY APP version. Perhaps this is the reason for the disconnections? Frustrating!
I bought the Mavic Pro 2 with "smart" controller in 2018 and had problems straight away which began with the firmware update: thankfully the store finally reimbursed me the 2000Euro I paid for it. Decided to wait till DJI have resolved the issue before buying again. I see they haven't. That's a lot of money to be paying for a brick that DJI don't seem to be fixing.
How can I downgraded the firmware?

Wow, just noticed the distance problem today. Took out the mini 2, and satellites were jumping from 22-25 with awesome flight distance. Then pulled out the SC with the M2P with kiddos using the hdmi output with goggles. Noticed the satellites were jumping from 15-16 with rc signal flashing only about 300ft out. Then pulled back out mini 2 again, satellites were back to 22-25 with no problems. Super annoying!

Yeah I'm noticing a lost of distance too with the M2 Pro and my M2 Zoom and my MA2 is great. I have two smart remotes so I think I'll down grade one for the Pro2 and Zoom
i had to down grade to make it stable know i have to deal with the update notice every time i turn it on i hope DJI fixes soon
Mine had the same problem. I went to the settings and found that the HDMI function was on. Turned it off and the problem was gone.
I've been having similar problems with the Mavic Mini.. a LOT less range, both flying ability, and video... obviously, I'm using the mini controller, but this started around the time of the latest update....
I have problem for the range and signal after upgrading the firmware
Purchased Air 2S in May and Smart Drone in June 2021. Both units functioned well then in September noticed glitches in video feed. At first it was minor but got progressively worse. Video would lag, be choppy then freeze. I sent drone to DJI for serving, they said it needed a new camera and sent me a replacement 2S. Flew new drone and right away the same problems but worse. Got in contact with DJI and told them I was sending both the drone and smart controller back and to review video of flights. Got an email from the on 10/11/21 saying they received drone and controller. Waiting for results. So yeah, glad to see it’s not me.

i upgraded 2 weeks back to sync the SC to MA2, M2P and M2Z. Have been busy on non drone /video related project so not had a chance to test. was going to take this out in 2 days, but have too say this gives me the shits. Thanks for the headsup. I wont be trying this. will down grade today and MA2 can stay on its own controller.
Another issue..this is my second SC flown with the MA2. The location orientation is way off and unreliable. Shows the drone to the side or behind when the drone is in front of me. Did all the calibrations, reinstalls etc.bbDJI support not very helpful... Others reporting the same issue. Perhaps its time for a firmware update. Anyone else experiencing this?

Had my smart controller freeze with my mp2 a few days ago and lost the drone completely. Think it would up in the water and I've spent over 6 hours snorkelling and looking for it in the last known location, but no luck. So much for my care refresh, since dji won't cover a lost drone. I've flown in this location so often with my spark and never had an issue. I wasn't far at all, just had a few trees on a bad angle preventing me from seeing at that moment and by the time I got to a place I could see it, the drone was no longer there. Never saw it return to home either.
I need to push my pro 2 out a, little more but I have no issues with either craft.....hope it stays that way.
I'm on my second Mavic Air 2, waiting on the stock controller to get here that I ordered off ebay. Got my MA2 fly more combo with smart controller on the 19th of March, would only allow me to go 3,000 feet before losing complete signal. Sent the drone and remote to DJI, they emailed me saying that they replaced the Aircraft module board, then a day or two later said they replaced the main board...sent it back to me, but it was missing a sticker with the ADS or whatever that's on the front right arm...tossed in a charged battery went for a flight and same thing. Called up support and the guy says they sent me a new MA2...and yet I'm still restricted to 3,000 before losing complete signal, signal starts to drop at like 700 feet away...very disappointed after dropping just shy of 2 grand.

I have magic 2 pro with original radio with crystalsky monitor + smart controller for 2nd radio client monitor - I had lots of disconnection when flying with the two radios connected. even on my original radio + crystalsky. The screen goes grey disconnected. I was afraid because I was doing a commercial shooting...
This!! This happened to me on a real estate shoot for a marina with my Mavic 2 Zoom at 1000ft over the water and I've never had any issues with the SC . Black and white frozen image on screen. I thought a bird had knocked me out of the sky and damaged the camera. I was able to initiate a RTH and it came back and landed no problem. Changed out the battery and went about the day without a repeat. I don't own a Air so headed to downgrade land now!

hmmmm I just got the Mavic 2 pro and smart controller bundle and have had no issues. Its been incredible compared to using a phone
I haven't noticed an issue yet but I have 3 Mavic 2's bound to my SC... No Mavic Air 2. Also I don't usually fly more than a few hundred feet away from myself.....

I just updated my DJI PRO2, and immediately on the very first flight at about 500’ way lost signal 😮 luckily, the drone came back on its own.
I sent mine back. I have the MA2 and DJI Fly app was doing the same thing. My unit is 3 weeks new. I downgraded reset to factor pay and immediately after takeoff DJI Fly app would crash. Not a fan of DJI’s customer service at all!

Go on assistant it will show you and let you choose older firmware

I’ve been having signal issues with the smart controller as well.
I think you have something there... if the radios are a little different, and they need to use slightly different code to setup the radio or the encoding/encryption, they could have easily added a bug to the code that handles the pro that isn’t in the Air 2 code, and of course when you go back to the old code it is not there.
This should be an easy fix for them, and it will take complaints like yours from the community for them to up the priority of the fix to get it out sooner.
As a side note, we will have to see how long it takes for them to add the Mini 2 to the Smart Controller. And yes, this means another opportunity to have a similar bug be added to the controller as well.
it normal for DJI. in time all distance will be shorten massive... it was it with the phantom and with the Mavic I had.

Yes, I am having issues with the smart controller disconnected from my Mavic 2 pro. It happens so frequently that it makes it impossible to capture good footage or anything that requires a good synchronization.
After my update I can't even connect to the Drone with my smart controller I've tried resetting it everything I am so sick of DJI no support whatsoever

Funny i google an issue im having with my smart controller updating and i find a vid you made. Lol nice! I had a distance issue using my mavic air 2. Im trying to do the new dji smart controller update v 1.00.0880 and its telling me i dont have the space! Lol i have 2 apps on it
I had a disconnect yesterday and thought it was strange as it hadn’t happened before. I had just changed batteries and when I turned it back on it started beeping and the screen on the SC said to press the linking button on the M2P - the screen asked which aircraft after it started beeping and I selected M2P. Strange.

I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a Smart Controller. Do you know if the .880 software release fixed this problem? If I only have a Mavic 2 Pro and nothing else, would I see the problem?
I just updated to the latest haven’t tried with the M2P I did use with the air 2 no issues
@@OriginaldoBo I have ver 1.0.880 and it is bad range connect etc..... What version would you recommend?

I believe it's a android smart controller glitch... not a firmware issue... I always pan the camera to see the feed is not laggy if it is then switch off everything and start again.... Don't fly before testing the camera transmission lag or you'll probably experience this range disapointment... WIFI hotspots from peoples phones seem to trigger this laggy video... This was happening before the new firmware and not as a result in it...
