I was one of those guys who wer were begging for a comparison with the rogue and you guys delivered in Spades. I am really happy that I won't be reinvesting in a new driver anytime soon
Steve Dietrich yeah as much as I love watching these club test videos, watching matt hit that same push/draw every time does nothing for my self confidence.
FINALLY someone comparing the new Mavrik with it’s actual predecessor and not the Flash! It’s a simple thing, but that’s the detail you guys consider when doing your work!
Thank you TXG for doing this type of club comparison. So much more relevant to compare clubs that are 2-3 years apart for us weekend golfers who dont buy new clubs that often. So cool that you guys are doing this.
Yes Matty's back swing sure is shorter...but, it seems like his lower body unwinds earlier than before so there is a time when his club is going backwards and his hips have started to open, maximising his X factor and stretch. Great for a youngster, not so achievable for those of us with a few more miles on the clock. As for short backswing, it seems to me to often fit with a quick tempo player. Some it suits, some it doesn't..
TXG instant credibility with this review, and many other of their reviews and in this case, clearly demonstrates year to year, only so much the manufactures can do with the restrictions. If you have a Rogue Sub Zero, you're upgrading because you just "Want the new one". In all their other reviews you see very close numbers with all the new stuff, that's credible. Everything is darn good. Pick on you like the best, get fitted, and you'll be good!
Great comparison, seems to be another really important reason to test before you buy. Thx for sharing TXG, you folks absolutely pin-point the important "stuff" for us!
I saw the Maverick before it was officially released, when the Callaway rep was at my local pro shop and when he asked my opinion, I said it looked like my Rougue sub zero.... Thanks for the confirmation and saving me some $$$!
Thank you soo much guys, it's great to see this comparison. I play with a rogue set, I love them but sometimes you just need a video like this to reassure you amongst all the advertisement your clubs are still up there in quality. Thank you again
Great job guys! Love your channel and that you have done more edit and cut out scenes to shorten it. I have a ROGUE SZ (that I love) and was looking at MAVRIK, but thx to you I will just be updating my 3 wood only.. Thx again
I should have added to my other post that this confirms my testing. I have the Rogue SZ as my gamer (and love it) and tested vs Mavrik SZ with same exact shaft and specs. Nearly identical. I still might pick up a Mavrik SZ at some point though, but now I don't feel the pressure to do it immediately. THANKS AGAIN!
Can't thank you guys enough....combined Rogue head off this review...with Fujikura Ventus Velo Core off other review....left shaft over length....daughter picked up 20 yards....12 degree launch...hitting it on the screws....1.44 efficiency 148 ball speed....fantastic!
I recently upgraded from the big bertha fusion driver to the rogue and the difference is night and day. Far more consistent ball strikes on center with much better fairway accuracy. Probably around 10-15m further per drive as well. Have hit Mavrik has well and I couldn't tell the difference between Rogue and Mavrik from a player standpoint. For reference I'm a mid to high handicapper so take this with a grain of salt.
I love my Rogue/ Mitsubishi C6 driver set up courtesy of TXG and Chris Kendall. The ball flies high and straight. I’m not a long hitter but given my age, it’s the most effective club in my bag. The % of centre face strikes is incredible. If I drove the ball this well twenty years ago I’d have been a single digit player. I’m sure these newer drivers are superb but I never look at drivers these days. My irons are still a work in progress though.
I'm here... having never played a fitted driver with a shaft thats stiff enough and currently using a driver from the 2000's because that's all I have. Just got fit for irons and wedges, waiting for the new wood to be available for fitting. When you're only ever gonna be buying a driver every, at minimum, 4 or 5 years, it pays to just buy the newest one lol.
I have used the rogue sub zero for the last two years and have enjoyed it. I tested all the new drivers and the in my case, the new mavrik was in improvement in dispersion and in my case, about 5 yards longer because I'm not super consistent in my impact location. It seemed to even things out for me. Great reviews guys.
The little bit of time that I've had with my Mav Sub has produced very similar results to what you guys found. Epic Sub, Rogue Sub, Flash Sub, and Mav Sub are all low spinning fire breathers. What I have seen (and yes, it's impossible to quantify with the naked eye) is an unmistakably tighter ball flight and dispersion with the Mav Sub.
Good test gents! The Mavrik and Rogue Subzero are too low spin for me, so it makes me happy the standard Mavrik is such a change in Callaway head design, the standard Epic Flash and Rogue just are big heads that spin a lot for me. Having three head options in the Mavrik is pretty great, but I understand it isnt an across the board improvement from the Rogue.
Great comparison video. I game the Rogue Sub Zero and thought about upgrading but with minimal performance difference and high depreciation of the club think I’ll hang onto it for a little longer.
Just did 1 hr Trackman session hitting my 2 drivers M3 and G400 LST. They perform for me very well and game either whenever. Last 20 mins on the session I was hitting Mavrik and all 3 finished within 1,5 mph ballspeed and 3 mtrs of carry/total spinning about 2600 (G400 best numbers by a narrow margin). All felt equally forgiving (M3 weights back), Mavrik with the stock Rogue shaft retained the ball speed incredibly well, but strikes were really good too. So many good drivers out there that it is positive problem what to play...
Iv got a rogue and won’t be changing!! If it takes a robot to see a difference, then there is NO difference!! Great content look forward to more of these tests.
If anything, this should make us all feel more confident in the fitting process. Ian fit me into the rogue fall ‘18 and since seeing 2 new lines come out I’ve been nervous that I left something on the table. This gives me all the confidence in the world. My takeaway is get fit and trust in that club. It’ll do you well for 5 years.
i have a 917 D3 and I'm just now thinking about making a change. Still don't feel like I NEED to but I totally agree that it's more likely that most of us change drivers every 2-3 generations at best.
You guys are awesome, I am in the market for a driver change (with a limited budget) and I was thinking of the rogue vs the newer models and you just answered my question very clearly. Now if I can get a shaft to suit it, I will be in business. Thank you...
Next let’s see comparison between SIM and M2 2016/M1 2016...I still hear that the M2 2016 is still the best of Taylormade drivers...Awesome vid guys...
@@kevinmac2298 Rogue Sub-Zero has the weight towards the front. Leads to lower ball flight and less spin (more unforgiving too). The Rogue has the weight to the back, making it launch higher. Much more forgiving
I love this new series, gents. Being a recent convert to the PING G410 Plus, I’m interested to see the PING comparison. As you implied, it’s as much a test of how good previous models were as how good the new ones are in comparison. 👍🏻
This time last year you tested a Tour Edge driver and said you were about to test other clubs from TEE. Wasnt the quality good enough or was it more of a other things coming in your way??
I play the standard Rogue and although I've not hit the Mavrik I wouldn't expect a difference that someone with my inconsistent swing would be able to notice. I can't see me replacing my driver for another 3 or 4 years minimum. I'm trying to 'improve' my swing with my driver (and I'm happy with progress so far) so I'll probably go into to test the fit later in the year.
I've got a rogue sub zero... It's the best driver I've had since the SLDR and is for me one of the best drivers of the last 10 years for both distance and forgivness (lucky enough to hit/test a lot)

I love my Callaway Rogue driver. I presently have it attached to a Tensei Ck PRO Orange 60s. I am wanting to try the Accra RPG in a similar spec, I’ve heard good things from the channel. Both of the shafts are counterbalanced which allows me to put some weight into the Rogue head which I like. I think I’m rolling with a 14g weight in the head. Would love a comparison video. CHEERS
Matt's back swing is a little shorter than last year but I see a good bit more power and higher swing speed from my perspective. I remember then you guys were comparing Epic Flash against Rogue at the time. Rogue numbers are better this year than last. Swing change or hitting the weight room?
I have a tour issue rogue SZ that was not beat by rogue or epic flash SZ. I had all 3 heads and the same shaft testing on gc quad and couldn't find any way to make the other drivers win, and I was trying to upgrade. The fitter told me not to unless I wanted new and shiny...next/last shot will be mizuno 200....
Love that you're going to test the older drivers and compare them to the newer driver heads. I'm hitting a Titleist 913 that I was never fitted for. Time for a new one?
Amazing striking Matty boy! I have the Rouge driver (not sub zero) and can confirm that it is extremely forgiving on low heel strikes. Bafflingly good compared to my old driver. Maybe the "super computer"' isn't as new as they say it is?
I was anxious to hit the Mavrik until you said it was the same as the Rogue. I had a 9 degree Rogue with a Diamana D+ 70 stiff shaft for about 1 month because it was about 20 - 30 yards shorter than my 2016 M1 8.5 degree with a Aldila Rogue silver 70 stiff shaft. It didn't make sense to me. I'm still playing my M1.
Good job guys! Can you repeat the test to hit intentionally off center? Like 1/2" to the heel or 1/2" to the toe? On the other hand, I suspect there is a slightly more noticeable difference between the performance of the standard Mavrik and the Rogue driver due to the new head shape design of the standard Mavrik.
For me also, the rogue was the finished version of the original epic gbb, and now the maverick is the finished version of the epic flash if that makes any sense
LOVE LOVE this series. Was wondering if you would be doing any test with Matt’s slower 96 mph swings like you did with the duo soft ball. I was amazed how consistent Matt can swing at a slower speed quite impressive. For me it adds a lot of interest. Thanks for this content it’s fantastic.
Can you also do the OG GBB Epic comparison? As I feel that it's been swept under the carpet and not talked about anymore - since it was so revolutionary and BIG on release (especially starting the Jailbreak Technology)?
Rogue SZ was so good out of the bottom of the face, but punishing low spin out of the high toe. Are you seeing improvement in Mavrik in those areas now that you've had a bit of time to work with it.
WOW! I think a majority of this type of testing will prove much the same, there is a negligible difference now that drivers are maxed out for better players. The better test is moderate and slower swingers who aren’t hitting it mostly the same swing to swing.
I have the Rogue sub zero and love it and have no plans on upgrading. If I had a driver that was 4 or more years older maybe I would look to upgrade but drivers that are only 2-3 years old the differences are gonna be small in my opinion .
looking at Matt's flight - I would go for Mavrick. It seems that Stability is the word for 2020. keeping a ball on the fairway and trusting your club to land on the fairway is worth a lot. I still have a Epic Subzero which is great.
Great video as usual....I hate to nag but most golfers I see are playing 6,7,8,9 year old drivers. Please test the new stuff with their older counterparts so we know whether to upgrade. Cheers.
Excellent video TXG! A request for a new video....Matt testing the iconic late 1990s driver - Titleist 975D with 7.5 or 8.5 degrees and a 43.5 inch DG x100 shaft tipped ala Tiger Woods style! We remember Tiger winning the slam with that driver and carrying 330 yard drives. This could illustrate how powerful Tiger was before all the tech advances of today. Also his Titleist TP 15 degree 3 wood with the same shaft he could hit 290+....I still have one and it’s a hard one to hit and played more like a 5 wood actually. A balata or Pro 90 golf ball would make this even more interesting. How far could Matt hit it with this set up?
I want the taylormade M2 2016 so bad. I still use it and love it. Don’t know if it’s worth it. I still hit it really well, but is the forgiveness that much better to switch.
I was one of those guys who wer were begging for a comparison with the rogue and you guys delivered in Spades. I am really happy that I won't be reinvesting in a new driver anytime soon

We need a slow motion of Matt's swing, its crazy where he stops his back swing but still creates that much speed.
Yes Matty's back swing sure is shorter...but, it seems like his lower body unwinds earlier than before so there is a time when his club is going backwards and his hips have started to open, maximising his X factor and stretch. Don't confuse where the shaft is to his turn. He has zero wrist cock and that is why his shaft is up in the air with a full turn.
Go to the settings and change the playback speed to 0.25
Let’s not forget Ian. He has a beautiful and powerful swing as well 🏌🏻

I play the Rogue so good to see the new one is basically the same. No changes for me this year.
