Question: Could we not theoretically upgrade all our cannons and then put THAT into a particle accelerator, ergo making every hit even more terrifyingly powerful? Or would it slow the shells too much to make them that fast?

21:34 If that Nuke hadn't destroyed the portal, then it would've returned their entire barrage back at Incursus. All the 12+ cannon shots hit that exact same spot.
Incursus waited until the portal was destroyed. It's just the shots were moving so fast that as soon as he released it, the shots were already through the enemy base

I suppose that if the devs want to prevent us from doing this particle accelerator shenanigans they will make any projectile passing through a portal consume a small amount of energy
Or they could add air resistance to make it more and more difficult to accelerate the higher the speed of a projectile
They could also make a limit to how many times a projectile can travel through a portal before ignoring it
@@nickolasschultz2588 That would be exploitable, we would start seeing people make tunnels of like 10 or so portals inside their bases to have their shots rip through enemy portals
Literally just put a speed limit on projectiles. It’s not that hard.
Though most of the damage from this actually is due to how many cannon shots are stacked in one place rather that the speed.

I hope they don't patch this out. It takes a lot of set up.
When you think about it, this is a "intended mechanic", as it does not use any glitches. The only way to stop this junk from happening is to implement terminal velocity, which merits its own update and weapon, because come on, Terminal Velocity sounds like a great update that adds momentum-based weapons!
What if you used a particle accelerator with Gatling guns. Just fill it with thousands of light speed bullets then unleash a laser of lead

Nah, its portal accelerator, railguns are NOTHING AGAINST PORTAL INFINITE LOOP ACCELERATOR, IMAGINE HAVING CONSTRUCTED PORTAL LOOP somethere underground, with room with no AIR in it, you fire say 223. at portal, LOOP is commencing, after 5 minutes how fast bullet will hit it target on surface after loop will be closed ?

HoovyzePoot I mean, it’s relatable to a lot of people, a lot of people use it to sleep, go back to reddit mate.
12am right now for me, probably going to fall asleep mid-stream for one of his 3 hour stream recordings.
That last accelerator barrage was one of the cleanest base decapitations I think I've ever seen.
Just a tip, if you don't have any anti-aliasing you can often perfectly align things with straight edges simply by making sure all the pixels on the edge are in a single line- not quite helpful if you need it to be close to mathematically perfect, but it'd be worth giving it a shot to see if putting down a background bracing by eye with this method is more effective than dragging the frame around with ropes :)

Problem is the enemy can send a nuke through that then detonate it.
As evident by the video, you have to hit the portal in the right place for it to not send the rounds past the concentrator. Making that work properly with randomly placed enemy fire isn't easy.
Also, missiles entering the portal will collide with other rounds and blow it to smithereens. So you have to ensure no missiles enter.
In short, collecting and accelerating enemy fire is too much work and too dangerous to be viable.
This isn't a particle accelerator, its a fucking HYPERVELOCITY CANNON! THAT'S AWESOME!

You should try this with 20MM cannons. They technically do more total damage, but it's spread out so it isn't as useful. These accelerators solve that problem though and you'd be launching 9 times the shells. Just gotta be careful with loading the rounds.

As someone who loves from the depths, i can only imagine the missle spam that will "cough cough" incur
I'm on the fence on that. Brilliant game, but it's a little too chaotic and takes too long to get awesome things to happen. Like... longer than Forts. :P
But FTD did not have PORTALS in it, at least YET, you can however make each barrel accelerate projectiles 1.5, with such acceleration 133 mm shell will have terminal acceleration with 20 1 meter barrel pieces as 12E234

I look at this, and I can immediately see two different ways the fort structure can be destroyed as a result of using this.
The first is from the damage the cannon shell itself causes as part of the game. This is obvious and hard-coded into the game.
The second is an extension of the game's physics. The shells have mass, which causes force to be exerted on the fort being fired on. Normally, the fort would only be shoved back a little bit, but then you have this thing accelerating the shells to insane speeds. Now, force, being a multiplication of mass and acceleration, increases dramatically here, in part because of the extra shell speed allowed by the accelerator, but also because of how many shells can be put out at once. So on top of the shells boring a hole into the enemy fort, the force imparted by their sudden stop creates insane amounts of torsion in what didn't shear off.
How does the sudden stop factor in? Well, force has to be applied to accelerate a given mass, so it stands to reason that same force can also decelerate the same mass. Inertia is a kind of force, basically the fort more or less wanting to stay motionless in one place. Naturally, that inertia is lost when the shells impact, causing the fort to undergo torsion as it twists in on itself from where the shells ultimately impacted.
what you are implying is that force is being applied from the base to the projectiles and vice versa. that's not how portals/teleporters are depicted.
Momentum, a function of mass and velocity, is conserved between portals. In layman's terms, speedy thing goes in, speedy thing comes out.

Would a 20mm variant work? The entrance would have to be larger but then I dont think this would have to be anywhere near as precise.

It will be precise, precision is Hurracane's commander ability
Incursus and co tested a 20mm variant, but it causes sound errors due to the sheer number of projectiles. In the prior stream, with sound effects off, a double salvo of 3x 20mm literally annihlated the opposite ship, nothing left but mines and foundations.

theb1ackdawn i tried every projectile based weapon and it worked just fine. The lag aka too much projectiles are the problem for the game, it tends to crash.
Best idea ever thought, but what about an indefinite upgrades cannon that had like 10 upgrades being shot into an accelerator? A one shot for small-medium bases that is flying a at a couple hundred meters a second sounds very overpowered.
Imagine doing this with atom cannons or BFGs...it would literally either one shot everything or crash the game.
Both have been tried on the discord. Neither is particularly useful. The BFC flies a bit straighter but does no additional damage, the atom cannons do much the same as the regular cannons for 5x the price and you can't see the best part when the screen is whited out. None of the modded super weapons really benefit from the portal accelerator in any useful fashion.
@@sterlingdoebler6299 Dang, that is unfortunate. How about machine guns? They are quite cheap to fire and fire rapidly - would that be able to essentially convert machine guns into a laser just for memes?

@@sterlingdoebler6299 True, but it would most likely be something interesting to try - at least for teh memes. Incursus has made worse ideas in Forts and somehow won them via meming. In a practical sense, I'd agree it is a bad idea.

I wonder what kind of damage an accelerated Howitzer would do. Would it pierce through wood, than explode ? Or immediately explode on impact ? But then, would the explosion be bigger or just create more impact and destabilise the whole ship ?

Nothing particularly useful. Howitzers don't get extra damage from movement and explode on contact, so it just makes the shot fly straighter. You also can't load a bunch of them into an accelerator because they collide and detonate.
Good to know Incursus didn't abandon Forts. Also, saw the stream but mine never seem to work, so it's nice to see this.

i think that shot at the end showed a missle destroying a portal perfectly positioned to fling those 9 shots right back at you.
The fix for this will probably kill t3 cannons.
When you said this was going to be a particle accelerator build, i immediately thought of one viable option which would be accelerating a bullet via portals, letting it fall almost infinetely. And who would have thought, i was absolutely right. Im kinda proud of myself. Im not that dumb afterall
