Really unique part of the country. Early morning and later afternoon are good times to photograph those hilly formations as colors really become more dramatic. Would like to visit again one day.

In 1986 I drove through there, met someone who knew someone and was allowed to drive out in hills behind visitor center and pick up petrified wood and pay by the pound. I have several beautiful pieces plus a very large petrified log that I still very much enjoy looking at in my yard.

hello from fullerton,ca. you have some great videos! last time i went thru petrified forest back '98 they had a huge sign posted that the fine was $250. per infraction for taking the rocks... we witnessed a park ranger stop a motorhome & he pulled out a half a dozen rocks from the motorhome. i figured the fine was about $1500. serves him right, he probably thought he could get away with it!

When I purchased land near Painted Desert I bought it for the views and petrified wood that I later found on property made everything better. I know that it can be found in many places but finding it on my own land made it special like finding my first piece of petrified wood again.

The combination of wispy and puffy white clouds against the rich blue of the sky is breathtaking. The sky is nature's canvas on which ever changing artwork is "painted", with every day a one of a kind mix of color, light and shadow. Love the panoramic views of your camera and smooth riding van, some other travel channels have too much jostling.

Disabled people can get a lifetime free pass to National and I think state parks. Also they can get a lifetime fishing and hunting license is their disability allows the latter.
