The Neapolitan is a song written when Italy under the dictatorship of Benito Mussolini invaded Greece, the war went on to become one of the most bloodiest one in WW2 and the Axis powers had to spend a lot of time and effort in both conquering and holding Greece while the Greek people resisted the occupation by Italy and Germany at all costs and had one of the if not the most fierce resistances.

The operation of the liberation of the greek population of Asia Minor was an effort to liberate the historic hellenic lands in Asia Minor, particularly the parts that were majority greek populated and not turkish and give them a comfort in their land after so many years of genocide from the turks. Unfortunately, the western allies changed their stance and backed Turkey.
