Hello there, day one can be any day of the week, Seachem works on a 7 day cycle. So you can assign day one to any day, it would mostly depend on how your week looks for you and what days you can dedicate certain tasks like water changes. With regards to the buffers, the dosage depends on the water parameters in your area, it’s usually a standard 7-7.5 already but I’ve seen people with 8.0 and higher in their tap water. Also it would depend on what plants, fish or invertebrates you have in the tank. Not everything prefer the same acidity or alkalinity in the water. That’s mainly why I don’t have a calculation for the buffers.
Hey thanks for your reply! I've started this hobby this week and filled tank on Sunday, added stability and prime to start with and will be adding fertilizers next week, just to clarify, do spreadsheets take in consideration co 2 injection ? as my tank will not have co2, at least for now, can I still use the spreadsheets without using co 2 ?@@JesemanuelRamirez
@@lukeborg9523 yes, co2 will only aid the plants in using the fertilizers. The spreadsheet only addresses the use of the Seachem products as stated on the packaging. So how much co2 you need and how it affects the tank is out of the scope of the spreadsheet. I will advise you have a co2 meter in the tank, (typically it’s a color changing liquid in a artsy glass container that you stick to the glass inside the aquarium) since it can wipe out everything if it too high.

Seachem excel suggests the higher dosage on the first dose of the week after the water change at the end of the week. You make your water change Sunday for example and let the tank rest for that day. On monday you start dosing again. Rinse and repeat every week, bigger dose monday, regular doses the rest of the week, water change on sunday, monday back to square one.

As stated in the video, Seachem suggest using Excel for 6 days and 1 day of rest. The spreadsheet is easy to use and will give you a dosing what and when and how much on a day by day basis.
I need some advice. Just started to use seachem prime, stability, matrix and pristine in my 10L tank for betta fish. pH has always been around 6.5-7. However, noticed that pH is 5.6 today, do not understand what could have caused this. 50% water change done every 5days but filter sponge not changed. I opened up my filter and it has a very strong chemical smell of matrix and filter sponge is dirty. However, I understand from the seachem website that these products do not alter pH. Appreciate some pointers.
Hmmm to be honest I don't really know what could lower your pH in this case. PH can lower do to decomposing organic matter. Also 2 gallons is a small aquarium for a Betta, I can't recommend enough a bigger aquarium. I know not everyone has the space, which is why they get small aquariums, but a ~40L aquarium would be much better for the fish and easier to control the parameters as well. One missed food pellet in a 10L has a bigger impact than in a big aquarium. With regards to the sponge filter, how are you cleaning it? I would suggest that you don't wash it under running tap water or try to get it super clean either. Take the water you're changing out of the tank to agitate the sponge in, to remove the debris in it. Besides that, check your water source, to check if any fluctuations occurred on that end. Hope that helps.
I have a planted 96 gallon aquarium with roughly 9 gallons of aquascape, leaving me a 90 gallons/340.65 ml. Following the chart, what do you recommend for a schedule as far as daily maintenance and what do you reccomend after water changes?? Hello there Preston. How i was doing it is that i would make my water changes on sundays and let it rest for the day and follow the suggested dosing plan from seachem. So a 6 day dosing routine and on the seventh a water change and repeat the dosing cycle again. Hope that answers your question. Let me know if i missed something.
@@JesemanuelRamirez So water changes Sunday with no dosing? Probably just prime right? And just keep repeating that schedule indefinitely for all the other seachem products? Im coming off a 3 week dry start and I'm flooding tomorrow and waiting until the tank is cycled prior to adding anything. Thank you for the speedy response and all help is appreciated. Hello Amir, thanks for asking. The spreadsheet I made will help you dose seachem excel according to the recommended amount from the manufacturer. They recommend dosing 6 days of the week and the amount is dependent on the volume of water your aquarium has. You can use or copy the Google Sheet I linked in the video description so you can determine how much Excel you need for you aquarium.
5 ml per 50 US gallons (189L) per day, unless starting a new aquarium which will require more. Do not overdose; for this product is better fall short than exceed or it may kill. Use rule of three to get amount for your aquarium volume (real water volume after deducting substrate, hardscape, etc. and not just tank size).
Hi Jese! You simply the best, sincerely thank you and much appreciated for this 💯💯💯🤜🤛. May I ask, can i start with the dosing regime from day 1? And what's the best ph, kh and gh level for planted tank? Thank you in advance.
Hey no problem! With regards to ph it really depends on the plants you plan on having in your aqua scape, there are plants that will melt in acidic and others in alkaline water. Some plants need low hardness levels and others won’t really grow if your water is too soft. It’s best to research where the plants you have/want are originated. That will give you a better understanding of what you need. On the matter of wether to start from day one I would say yes, but I don’t know what you are using as substrate. If you are only using gravel then yes. Hope this helps! And have fun with the hobby.
Great video great detail I got a question I use seachem neutral regulator these instructions only say use 1 level teaspoon for every 40-80 litres my tank is only 28 litres how to work this out ?
I would suggest weighing the amount suggested in grams. Then dividing the amount of the product in grams to the amount of liters it treats to the figure the ratio. There you can find out how many grams per liters. Also, the Neutral regulator is not formulated for planted aquariums. I use the acidic and alkaline buffers to bring the water parameters to where I want them.
Dude great video. Just started with my tank a week ago and this is gonna be so helpful. Just one question, should I dose before the lights go on, like 10mn before or how should I do it? Thanks
it really doesnt matter in my opinion, as long as you keep the dosing schedule but if anything maybe before the lights go on. Again just try to dose during the morning, that way they will be in contact with it for a longer period during the day.
@@JesemanuelRamirez Really appreciate it. Last question, should I provide 7 or 8 hours of lighting? Last but not least, is there any break in between where the lights should be off or they Just stay on?

are you trying to access the spreadsheet through the phone? If so Google Docs is kinda iffy if opening it through a browser on your phone. If its on a computer then you should be able to just double click the box with the number to change it.
The point was missed because it wasn’t the focus of the video. The point of the video was to explaining how Seachem recommends you use their products. In any case weather you should or shouldn’t dose something is another topic altogether.
Seachem is a micro dosing method of fertilizing your aquarium, so it requires dosing for 6 days a week, with one day of water change and rest. Thanks for watching by the way. If you like what you see and found it useful, concider subscribing and leaving a like, that would help my chanel. Thanks

Haven't dived too deep into it, but what I've seen its a clay based denitrifying filter? Is there something in specific you would like me to comment on anoxic filers? I'll be happy to try and give you an answer.
@@JesemanuelRamirez I was just curious if you had opinions on it because it seems really promising, (( but I haven't really seen many/any Fishtubers really ever use it), and just because you seem like you approach things a little more analytically than a lot of hobbiests do. But yea you're spot on, basically if you're not using a canister filter, you use an undergravel filter with an air stone to create a plenum so water can _slowly_ flow *through* the substrate, preventing anaerobic pockets, and with a substrate of baked clay Kitty litter, (because of the high surface area and crystaline structure attracting the NH4 ions) and Laterite [maybe Flourite too] (because an iron source is important for the dimorphic bacteria that removes *nitrates* to colonize). So yea basically by creating the anoxic conditions and providing the iron source for the dimorphic bacteria you removes nitrates as the water *slowly* passes through the substrate, and by utilizing the functionality of "magnetic permeability" of the kitty litter/laterite, the positively charged NH4+ ions (ammonia) are drawn out of the water more efficiently. Or at least that's my understanding, although Dr. Kevin Novak has lots of resources on it. Anecdotally Dr. Novak has some pretty crazy bioloads in some of his tanks / pond with exactly 0 nitrate (with professional grade kit, not a hobbies kit), and even people in the comment section will mention hardly having to do water changes after adopting it. It sounds wayyy more complicated than it is in practice, and in reality it's probably not particularly useful for low stocked aquascaping tanks if you're not having algae issues
@@VinylUnboxings yes, I'm looking into it and I could do it in the canister too, I still have a spare basket that I'm not using. The thing with kitty litter is finding one that doesn't have anything that we don't need that won't cause any adverse effect to the aquarium, like perfumes or other chemicals for clumping and such. I'm pretty sure it's not very hard. Just have to be careful. When looking at this it also reminded me of Zeolite clay. There are manufacturers that already made products for aquariums. And it is very similar... when you read the filtering characteristics of it, maybe take a look at it. There is a caveat, non of these filters are forever, and Zeolite can be dangerous if you forget to take it out if you add salt to the aquarium, it may discharges or let's go of the ammonia it has or stops absorbing/attracting it. Either way it's interesting. I'm going to see if I can implement it. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. I was looking at Zeolite clay but this cloud be another alternative.
Well the sheet is not made to account for every single scenario. We don’t all have the same plants or load of plants, and not all plants take up the same amount of nutrients all the time, so you’ll always have to adapt depending on your specific needs. The sheet is meant to make the Seachem chart easier to follow and to make a quick chart to use as specified by Seachem for their products, depending exclusively on your aquarium size and volume. If you have the specifics on how much your plants consume Nitrogen, and you can quantify it, then you can adapt the chart to your plants needs. You can download the chart and modify it to fit your model as you wish.
we'll, its a pretty complicated topic and not everyone is in agreement about what causes it, but one is for sure, they are there to bring something out of balance into balance. If its not corrected they will take over and that's when things get out of hand
@@trudeaumustgo1920 true, but the lack or incorrect levels of CO2 will make it harder for plants to take in and make use of the fertilizers, where algae don't really need all that much to make use of them. So yes, co2 levels out of whack would be a cause for algae, but it would be because the plants cant make use of the fertilizers in the water or take more in, therefore there would be an imbalance of fertilizers to co2 levels. It all has to be in balance. That's not to say that algae is a bad thing, they are extremely necessary for a healthy aquarium, there are people that have algae scrubbers in their sumps, in order to take the hit of the imbalance, be it from low or high CO2 levels or an overdose of fertilizer for the co2 levels in the aquarium.

docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/0/d/1-sr26nQB-kUJ71pf-7l1ZfbrPCGlS9oh1csFKXZfq9w/htmlview
Thank's Jese, super helpful!
Thank you so much!
Great stuff man! Just bought Seachem series and what a perfect way to begin. Thanks!
I am considering Jecod Dp 4 chanel Dozing pump, any experience with that?
Best regards Kris DK
Haven't uses them so I can really say anything about it. Hope this helps, let me know how it goes
we know how much we need to dose each time, but how often we should dose pls?
the chart specifies 6 days a week, on the seventh day is for water change and rest
So on the spreadsheet I noticed that one of the product doesn't have the type brand. For example, Day 1, first line just say Flourish. Did you mean Flourish comprehensive???
Yes, that's correct.
How much do I dose daily seachem flourish excel 350 litre tank ?
I provided a google sheets document that calculates the dosage for each product. The chart is free to use
theres a chart for liters and one for gallon measurements
@@JesemanuelRamirez I can’t edit it or work it out how much daily for 350 litre tank flourish excel ?
@@jordanjames5042 ok sorry for the delay, i was going through some IRL stuff, ill take a look and let you know
@@jordanjames5042 350 Liters, 46.3 ml after a big water change and 9.26 ml the rest of the week
silly question, are you dosing your water while using tap water, or RODI water? this hobby is a rabbit hole, and your spread sheet honestly is a staple for me now.
I use RO water when dosing with the seachem line
I'm glad to hear you are enjoying the spreadsheet and sorry for the late reply
I’m trying to add my number of gallons into the chart but it won’t let me? Any idea?
I’ll check it out.
permissions are ok so Im not sure why but just in case here is the link again: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-sr26nQB-kUJ71pf-7l1ZfbrPCGlS9oh1csFKXZfq9w/edit?usp=sharing
are you trying to access the spreadsheet through the phone? If so Google Docs is kinda iffy if opening it through a browser on your phone. If its on a computer then you should be able to just double click the box with the number to change it.
@@JesemanuelRamirez it was my phone. Thanks! Lol
@@glitchdatabase4033 ok, did you manage to edit it?
missing a big point....test kits...why do you dossage if you do not know if you need to?
The point was missed because it wasn’t the focus of the video. The point of the video was to explaining how Seachem recommends you use their products. In any case weather you should or shouldn’t dose something is another topic altogether.
@@JesemanuelRamirez i understand !
Should i dose it everyday...?
Seachem is a micro dosing method of fertilizing your aquarium, so it requires dosing for 6 days a week, with one day of water change and rest.
Thanks for watching by the way. If you like what you see and found it useful, concider subscribing and leaving a like, that would help my chanel. Thanks
Hi, why you stop videos?
@@gula65 life and work has taken a toll on me really, I have more time now and I’ve been hinting on a future video, but my aquariums have suffered a lot since then so I’m trying out other cheaper methods that seem to be working and I’ll soon be making a video on this, just need to tie up some loose ends and I’ll have more time for the hobby. Stay tuned, and thanks for watching
Jese do you have thoughts on anoxic Filtration?
Haven't dived too deep into it, but what I've seen its a clay based denitrifying filter? Is there something in specific you would like me to comment on anoxic filers? I'll be happy to try and give you an answer.
@@JesemanuelRamirez I was just curious if you had opinions on it because it seems really promising, ((
but I haven't really seen many/any Fishtubers really ever use it), and just because you seem like you approach things a little more analytically than a lot of hobbiests do.
I mean its all depends on plant load, i have to dose tons of nitrogen which your sheet doesn't account for
Well the sheet is not made to account for every single scenario.
You can download the chart and modify it to fit your model as you wish.
i love u

@@ericgonzalez3206 I have no idea what that mean
Dude, the rash on your neck just spread throughout the video 😳are you okay?
ROFL 🤣 yeah I’m ok I got a mosquito bite that was really annoying, couldn’t stop scratching
@@JesemanuelRamirez hahaha I was legit worried! I'm glad you're okay 😊
I was told that ferts do not cause algae
They dont.
we'll, its a pretty complicated topic and not everyone is in agreement about what causes it, but one is for sure, they are there to bring something out of balance into balance. If its not corrected they will take over and that's when things get out of hand
but when you fertilize the wrong way, it could bring your aquarium out of balance, which in turn facilitates the growth of algae.
@@JesemanuelRamirez estimative index is built upon the idea that excess fertilizer wont cause algae. Co2 levels out of wack however will.
Well known this stuff is too diluted
I'm looking into the other concentrated dosing methods. Not sure which to try though
@@JesemanuelRamirez niloc g or easy green. Or just go to dry powder, cheapest option.

Did you watch the whole video?
Yes i did, and again If your a person with a littel bit of brain you absolutely dont need this overly complucatet video. At least thats my opinion
@@thimoschreiber4275 lol ok dude, by the way it’s “complicated” not “complucatet”. It doesn’t take too much brain power to check your grammar. Clearly this video was not made for you but you’re not smart enough to see that. You might have the knowledge but not everyone does, or wants to take the time to do all the math. I made it so they didn’t have to sit down and make their own spreadsheet or make mistakes with the math and still enjoy the hobby, what have you done to improve the aquascaping community?
