Steve reminding Tiger to put his mark back to its original spot is one of the top 5 acts of sportsmanship I've ever seen. Wonder how many guys would have let him play from wrong spot and took the AM title.
Probably not many. Golf is a gentleman's game. It's why I love it so much. As Steve said, win the match with your clubs. Anyone who'd handle that any differently is missing out on what golf is all about.
I’m really happy to see that they lasted as a couple and have a beautiful family to show for it. Steve’s perspective about the whole thing is perfect and I admire that he didn’t let that moment in time define him.
That moment does define him, but in a positive way. Could you imagine going toe-to-toe with someone so talented that he's compared to the likes of Mozart and Bill Gates
"You can win in life without winning!" Is an awesome and very true statement from Scott. Truly shows he has no regrets concerning the game against Woods and his short career on the PGA Tour.
@@TextlefSchrempf Nah I'd rather have the US amateur trophy lol, 50% of marriages end in divorce then she'll take the money and kids, but that trophy would never let you down lol
I remember watching this U.S. Amateur Final. Steve Scott was one cool customer, and he battled Woods all the way to the end. This mini-documentary did a nice job of capturing the feel of that match from the perspective of both competitors. And it really is cool to see that Scott has gone on to have a happy and successful life, both professionally and personally. Equally great to see that Kristy has been at his side the whole time.
Steve Scott, you are a true gentleman and a great competitor. You define sportsmanship, honesty, resilience, and all the qualities we strive for in golf and in life. Your defining moment was being a true competitor and gentleman and telling tiger about his marker, proving golf is a gentleman's game. being remembered as a gentleman is pretty damn good. See you in the short grass, brother.
In this video Steve remarked "You should win the match with your clubs, not because of a rules gaff". This showed true sportsmanship and what a great character Steve had.
Steve is a true gentleman. I'd love to see him for a golf lesson some time in the near future. The ball marker episode just catapulted his image in my head 1000 X. What an amazing guy!!!
I remember watching the Sunday rounds. I didn't expect that the best part of this video was Scott telling Tiger to re-place his ball, and Scott's wife breaking down in tears.
You could argue that Tiger might have won at Golf, but Steve Scott with a beautiful, supportive, loving Wife by his side giving him 2 great kids might be the real winner at Life.
I read about your story last night and watched this video today. Very moving. I am so happy for you both. You're married, have a family, and a career in golf. I think that's as good as it gets. Congratulations. Sometimes young love lasts and burns forever, but it seems most of the time it doesn't work out that way.
As many have already stated Steve Scott reminding Tiger Woods to put his marker back is so F**cking AWSUM that's why I play golf that's why we all truly love golf
Steve Scott has integrity and is a great example to all people. He did not have to remind Woods to move his marker back. So much was on the line and Steve did the right thing.
Yep, haha. Steve, Sergio, Bob May, Rocco Mediate... All of them can hold their heads high knowing they left it all out there and just got beat by the best to ever do it.
@@winstonsmith11 look at all of his amateur victories and Junior amateur victories. Huge comebacks. He won his first Junior amateur by birdieing the last 3 after being 2 down with 3 to go. He's been doing it his whole life.
Steve, your sportsmanship goes beyond all the beautiful shots I’ve seen TW play(I am an ardent TW fan) indeed you won in life and after watching this video, I hope and wish that GOD blesses you by making your son an incredible golf champ(if he takes up golf) and win as many tournaments as TW has won. Maybe even go head to head with TW’s son Charlie and both become the then BIG 3 along with JOHN DALY’s son...who knows,GOD works in mysterious ways. By the way I came here after reading about your story from COLIN MONTGOMERY’s #MONTY Autobiography. 🇿🇦✌🏿
And right after this tournament Tiger Woods and his Caddy (or friend) went to pizza hut in Sellwood, Or (little community in Portland, Or) where I rung up 7 large pizzas for him. If I would have only saved the receipt slip....Dang Phil..lol (that was my manager at the time...
What a great story and what a great lesson. I am happy that Scott found his own personal luck and I wish him and his lovely family only the best. A great example of true sportsmanship to remind Tiger to set back the ball mark. Remarkable.
Nice vid thanks for the upload and thank steve and tiger for the battle and to mention the marker is great sportsmanship win with the clubs not the rules. Real gentlemen’s game 👍🏻
Steve Scott hats off to you sir! Not many players would of done what you did for the opponent and you there sir has shown true spirit of the game and others need to see and learn
"Anybody can be a husband or a father, but there are only five people in the world who can do what I do, so I focus on that." - James Cameron. Steve is just another average Joe with a house a wife and a dog. Tiger is unique. He's set himself for life, broken dozens of records, earned a spot in history and most importantly he didn't just follow the same generic life formula people like you swear by. He blazed his own trail. I'll take Tiger's life any day.
Tom Smith enjoy a life of regret when you’re 70 and retired, alone in your mansion with no wife, explaining to your kids why you can’t have Christmas together. But hey at least you got those green jackets.
You talk a lot about mansions and trophies and Christmas with the kids. You don't understand what it is all about. How many of us know what it is to become the best version of ourselves at something? Tiger Woods did that. He stood to his fullest height and achieved his greatest potential, he charted his own path and wrote his name in history. That's worth far more than making a baby. News flash: even cows, roaches and flies can reproduce! What separates humans is our imagination, but there is nothing imaginative about living an ordinary life. None of this will register with you though. You'll keep patterning your life and behavior off of everyone else. So go ahead. Enjoy your cookie cutter life. And don't forget to pick up the milk on the way home from work!
To have someone as awesome as Kristy be your lifelong partner? To help you up when you're down? Keep you smiling like Scott still does? Scott definitely won.
After reading the Tiger biography that came out last year, it looks like Scott may have lost the battle but won the war. I wholeheartedly agree Tiger is the greatest golfer ever, but what it took to make him that way is something i wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.
That's the great thing about golf, its a gentleman's game. You don't try to be sneaky and do whatever it takes to win. You tell someone if they forgot to put their mark back because it's the right thing to do. I also tell my buddies that they actually got a double when they tell me they got a bogey ;)
Don't get me wrong here because Scott seems like a great guy. Yes he has a nice family and a great wife, but when it comes to life, who is richer is totally subjective. Knowing what I know of myself and how my life has gone, if a genie said to me "between Woods and Scott, who's life would you rather have and I will make it so", I'm pretty sure I would pick Woods any day.
Yeah I remember this. Tiger haters from that Tiger should have thrown himself at Steve's feet and groveled in thanks for letting him make that monstrous eagle and big birdie. But what I have found over the years is that there are always narrow minds hovering around Tigers success. It's a good thing he has always been impervious to them.
Just reading Tiger's biography and heard about this game. Kudos to Steve Scott for his gamesmanship and nice to see Tiger - finally after twenty years - acknowledging it. Life seems to have paid them both back for the way they played it.
STEVE SCOTT SHOULD BE PRAISED FOR HIS TRUTHFULNESS. HE COULD HAVE WON THAT EASILY BUT HE DIDNT WANT TO WIN THAT WAY...I hope Tiger Woods returned that favor in some way.. after Tiger became a multi millionaire...I hope Tiger sent him some cash or a New set of clubs or something just to show his appreciation. KUDOS TO U STEVE SCOTT. A true gentleman and role model for what golf is all about. U r definitely proof of "U CAN WIN IN LIFE WITHOUT WINNING" . U have a BEAUTIFUL wife and family. Wish u the best of luck.

Eventually Tiger left his mark on alot of waitresses.
Probably not many. Golf is a gentleman's game. It's why I love it so much. As Steve said, win the match with your clubs. Anyone who'd handle that any differently is missing out on what golf is all about.
Seve would of, and nobody asked him, but Tiger might have.
Tiger definitely wouldn't have done that.
Literally anyone who knows anything about golf would have told him
Steve scott really won in life for real. This man has a real one by his side. Worth more than anyone can imagine
Steve Scott - "You can win in life, without winning", i love that!
