  • Euro nymphing, aka tightline nymphing, has been around since before bobbers were renamed indicators. However, that technique has evolved greatly within the last 20 + years or at least since I was first introduced to it in 1997. Competition has driven this technique to what it is today and continues to refine and redefine the sport of fly fishing. Join me, and special guest Ron Kless, as we give a little insight into the prespective and approach of a competitive angler.

Another great video Norm! So glad to see I'm not the only one that isn't using a FIPS line in favor of a DT line. It just makes sense to me since the forward section of a DT line is level while still having the ability to throw dries if I run into a hatch. I use a Hardy Ultralite Zephrus 9'9" 2wt for my euro kit with the heavier Sage Trout reel to balance the rod to a 30 to 45 degree angle. I also like Ron's leader set up as well. Learned a lot on this video thank you!

Thanks for this video, Norm and Rob. I didn't quite follow Ron's description of his leader. Could you go over what the yellow material he uses is, what diameter, and what length. And what sighter material does he use, how thick, and how long? Again, many thanks.

I think Ron is using mono core euroline...not totally sure. I am using a double taper 2wt.

If the water was 2 1/2 ft to 3 ft, is it necessary to use 10 ft of fluoro? That's 3-4 times depth. I thought 2 times the depth at most was the ideal length. Any suggestions?

What do you guess that big brown would have measured?

What size reel did you pair with the rod?

some of the newer euro reels have adjustable weights to help balance the rods better. otherwise it depends on the length and weight of the rod, and it's a bit of a guessing game. in the past, i used a 5wt lamson liquid on my orvis recon 10' 3wt and it balanced good enough
