Just ran across this video while doing research on which long arm purchase that will fit my needs. So glad I saw this. I really like the fact that you are there for your customers all the way from start to finish. Thank you
I doubt I will ever be able to justify the cost of a longarm machine. But if I ever win the lottery, I will buy the house that fits the largest machine made :)
Oh Angela! That’s our Mandy and she Loved buying her machine from you! She was glowing when she told us about how you came out to get her started! I bought one from the shop you did a lecture and dinner show at but they weren’t You setting it up! Still, I love my new Amara and can’t wait to see you when you visit next time! Our whole quilt community is abuzz, hurry back to Abq! We love you and your family! Lol, did you hear about Mandy’s sign outside “your” bedroom? 🌺💗🌺
Well, since I’m not local to your shop I had to buy one from a local quilt shop. I bought the HQ Amara. I love it but the support system really isn’t there. But honestly for my area I’m not going to get that personal experience anyway. So my husband and I set it up and I rely heavily on HQ videos to get me by. I have no regrets though. I love it. One of my biggest issues though is to get a properly wound bobbin.
I live an hour from the shop that set mine up and still can't get good customer service. I rely on videos as well but still struggling with issues. Very frustrated!
Amy Sindlinger, it is tough when your not feeling supported. It’s a big investment. I can say that my experiences with calling customer service for HQ has been stellar. The support I get from HQ education department has really helped to get me started. I’ve also used the community forum on their website to find answers to some of my questions. So the HQ community is really great. I hope you are able to find resources that will help alleviate your frustration. Here’s a link to the page with access to the community. handiquilter.me/
Hi Anitra, I am also interested in the Amara. I am wondering how much depth of space is needed for a 12’ frame. I have a 14’ long room, and it is 10 1/2’ wide. But I need to put something big (abt 4’ deep) across the room, so that will only leave 6 1/2’ of depth remaining. Is that enough room to comfortably use it? I read on the APQS site that one needs at least 8’ of depth, but their machine setup may be a different size. I have tried a bunch of machines (NOT APQS) but the Amara was by far my favorite, of all I tried. It seemed to offer the most control, was smooth to use (as opposed to the others I tried, which felt like a jackhammer!) and I liked the ergonomic adjustable handles because I have health issues and it didn’t hurt me to use it. So, from your experience, what would you say is the minimum depth necessary to enjoy comfortably using it? Thank you.
you said you can tackle a quilt of any size on the 5 ft. frame? I have the space for a longer one but Im not sure I want to spend ? 10k for a machine. don't plan on doing quilting for an income. and honestly not sure how many big quilts I'd do anyway. If the occasional big quilt can be done on the smaller frame that sounds good. I just don't want to regret not getting the bigger one..... sigh,,,,, what to do? haha
Handi Quilter makes the Baby Lock long arm and sit down machines. They are almost identical and the accessories from Handi Quilter work. I bought the Baby Lock from a dealer on Kauai-the frame would fit and service is available locally. The Regalia is almost the same as the Amara. The only difference is the Amara has a magnetic collar for small scissors or tools on the head. It’s a great machine.
I'm currently working on piecing a quilt using the "Abigail" fabric line! It was fun to see familiar fabrics on your video pieced into a different pattern.
Hi there! I have been looking into purchasing a longarm and I was so happy to have seen this video. I am no tech person at all and I get overwhelmed pretty quickly when it comes to being tech savvy and it’s the only reason why I’ve held back on a purchase. Help!
Hi Angela, (we love you) Hi everybody (we also love all quilters)! it is a long time since my husband and I want to take a long arm... but here in Italy it is a challenge to find someone who can teach us how to use it fully! And we are also worried about technical maintenance...
do you know if they still make the baby lock crown jewel machine? I am thinking of buying a used one and was wondering if that one would be good for a beginning quilter and if parts are still available?
I currently have the tiara 2 that is twin to the sweet 16 I love it , but no matter how well I baste i get wrinkles in the back and shifting, im thinking about the moxie, what do you about moxie. We do not have local hq dealer but I will be going in the middle of month so i hope to try out. I'm 68 and really can't stand for nolonger then45 minutes i can't keep both so tiara will have to go if I purchase moxie, I don't want to be unhappy about it, any advice
Purchased an Avante about a year ago. The company came and set it up and that is as far as it went. I never had any training on it or how to load a quilt onto it. When I call with problems or issues I get an answering machine and when they call me back their answer is "there are lot of youtube videos to help you". I'm a little tired of watching videos to get my answers. I don't call that good customer service. Very frustrated. I have a VERY expensive machine and use it very little!!
I just bought an Avante, got a super good deal w/ an upgraded frame. I found the customer service excellent. Because I ordered direct from HandiQuilter, I had to set it up myself. Fairly easy and I am an old fart! I had to call 2x very responsive, helpful & knowledge. Betty was awesome! I was a titch bit over zealous screwing the mast on to the bobbin winder, and broke it. HandiQuilter overnighted a new mast! They are great, love the machine. Tons of support through HandiQuilter, RUclips, Facebook groups. Ask your dealer about demo machines
I bought mine from a quilt show in Lancaster PA and they reassured me that I would get hands on demonstration (I asked several times) on how to use it. This did not happen. I really think there is something wrong with the top tension knob. Top thread is always breaking no matter what weight thread I have on and have the tension adjusted correctly. What facebook groups are you part of?
Amy Sindlinger I can understand the frustration with something that is new and just gets no support. I would like to get my wife a set up and am handy at figuring things out. I wish you well. But in the chance you would sell and get a different make I would be interested in perhaps buying it. Don’t let this turn you off quilting, I know how much it means to my wife.
I'm very interested in a stand-up long arm machine. I have a loft that is 4' by 9.' Does anyone know if that size would be adequate for a long arm machine and, if so, what would the best machine/frame size (would 8' work) be? Thanks for your help.
I have a sit down quilter and the biggest struggle is the drag of the fabric.. I have looked at the mid size Simply 16, but I noticed I kept running into the frame..not a lot of sewing area? Any helpful hints?
Ann Walsh I have that too and that has helped tremendously..but I do keep moving the quilt in the clamps to keep it moving..I have only done lap/baby size quilts..I just paid to have a king sized quilt quilted..that is intimidating!
In UK speak to Liz at Pinhole quilting as they have the Handi Quilter longarm & sitdown machines that you can try out and get training on (and maintenance support). I have a HQ Avanti & rent an Artist studio space in Stoke on Trent, Spodeworks.
Thank you, Angela, this info. Very helpful for anyone considering such a major investment. There is one question I have, when considering the sit-down vs. stand-up versions, it seems as if there is another consideration besides the ease of sitting or standing. The time between basting the quilt first (sit-down) and loading the three layers on their individual rollers (stand-up), would they be about the same or would one of them actually take longer?

When you scroll down the page below the video, first you'll see the title, then "Angela Walters" and the "Subscribe" button. Directly below this, you'll see text that says "Have you ever looked into getting a longarm quilting machine...". This is the description box! At the end of the paragraph, there are the words "SHOW MORE" - if you click on these words, more information will expand below. I hope this helps!
Allison, if you are on a smaller device (I.e. Tablet or smartphone) you will not automatically get the description box below the video. At the end of the video title, when the video window is minimized, there is a small arrow that is normally pointing down. You will need to click on this arrow to actually get the description box. Otherwise all you will see is the comments section. I hope this helps.
Definitely! I just got back from setting up and training a new owner in LA. Email me at angelawaltersquilting@gmail.com if you would like more details!
Name a quilting sewing machine on a very low budget. Whose stitching is much better. I don't need any design of this sewing machine, just with this quilting sewing machine I will sew nakshi kantha using ruler and quilting free motin pressure foot.

In the video you said that the sweet 16 would quilt any size quilt. How is that done if the frame is only 5 '?
i would love to buy a long arm machine with computer that does my quilting for me but do you sell used machines

How much actual quilting space is there toward the end of rolling up and quilting most of a queen/king size quilt?
Fabulous video thank you!!

Can you suggest an instructor who can come to my home?, sadly I didn't know your store when I bought my HQ Forte.
very good video, welcome to use our long arm quilting machine
can you show how you load your quilt? do you free float the top layer of the quilt?
How would I go about testing the sweet sixteen sit down vs the simply sixteen. I live in Georgia, USA
Deb Holtz The Simply Sixteen sounds interesting as does the Sweet Sixteen. I'd like to know where to see and test them too. I'm in SE Lower Michigan.
Go to Handiquilter an to a store search for your area

What are your thoughts on the new Moxie?
Hi, I saw your post on you e? Wondering if you got a Moxie and how do you like it?
@@lamoabird I didn’t get the Moxie. My husband didn’t care for it and we decided to wait until I can get the one I really want
I am going to buy a long arm sewing machine, Angela. So any advice or help will be brilliant. I live in New Zealand.

i want to buy a longarm that actually does the quilting for you!! .. But, i cant afford something like that. Sad is me!!
Thanks! You must've been reading my mind:)
Great minds think alike, lol. Let me know of you have any questions I can help you with!
How does this work. Long distance, I live in Indiana

I find that it's much quicker to load the layers on the frame as opposed to basting them. Hope that helps!
If we already have a Handiquilter, Avante 18 inch, Can we also belong to that Facebook page? Would love to be able to ask questions
Living in the UK space is a real issues, been looking at long arms for a while but not sure where to look over here any help would be great. Thanks 😊
I trained with them & they sometimes have a HQ trainer there, they did when I trained.

😩 if in Chile were less taxes in Chile I would buy one! 😩
I want this please
What is the biggest quilt you can stitch on the simply sixteen stand up if it only takes up 5 feet?
Since the frame acts like a large hoop (think embroidery) you can quilt as large as you want. You just move the quilt and secure it to the hoop.
Sherril Hart so you can have the quilt hanging over each end of the frame when quilting the central parts?
Yes that is correct!
I trained on the 24" Avante & there was no Simply 16 then just the Sweet 16 sit down. Not heard of the amara either in UK will investigate whether we can get them here. Thank you
I have been looking for a long arm. These discussions, and Q&A have helped. Thanks everyone.
