fun fact! the reason people in those old edwardian photos don’t seem to have any collar bones or any blemishes on their faces is because they pay people to get rid of them by painting over it! those extremely tiny waists? while they do have corsets underneath, they are still photoshopped! just got reminded of this when you gave the example about beautifying the painting :D

Well, I think she meant your SEMI-REALISM skills will shine MORE if you draw hot ppl. If your focus is the "subject" though and not the "art style" then it's much better to draw ugly ppl using realism. Since you had to show the intricate details to justify calling them ugly. And since semi-realism doesn't really require that MUCH of details, so it's not that effective to draw ugly people using semi-realism. At the end of the day tho, it's still your choice to draw whoever and whatever you want in any style.

I've been struggling with art block past 4 years now and im in art & animation course in college. Can you make a video on how to draw bangs when your character's head turns to 3/4 and profile angles (or any angles)? It's hard how to imagine your character's head at certain angles after doing the front view. You'll have yourself trying to figure out how every little piece of hair in a certain direction you happily draw - works. 😣😫😢 How do you draw hair behind layers of hair? The more you turn the head from front angle to 3/4, does the line art for the hair (ones with wild angles) become more vertical or horizontal?
Simple way to draw 3/4 felquillo First take your pencil, put some layers of paper pretending to be locks, turn it little by little (imagining that this is the girl's hair) and well that can give you a more or less precise idea (It can be done mentally in a simple way: V) (I learned this trick while I was playing to make an XD doll)

I agree with many comments on here when they say that "never draw ugly people" is kind of cruel, I admire your work as an artist but that idea is not the best because just increase the social importance of the stereotypes related to beautyness and ugliness in men and women, that also Intensify the discrimination against minorities that have been racialized for decades. Finally this is not hate, I thought just like you some years ago but when I realized my thinkings were not correct and descolonized my ideas, my draws improved a lot too.
But, there's nothing wrong with being ugly? There's nothing wrong with being below average attractiveness yet you make it seem like being ugly is wrong.

I always have a hard time maintaining my art style. I can never draw anime-ish style because it always ends up semi-realistic which is a little tiring to render compared to a completely 2d one. But what i struggle with the most id the proportions when drawing semi-realism, I have yet to grasp my own way of doing it, and as much as I want to simplify my drawing, it's so hard that I end up drawing a semi realistic face with weird proportions....
the beginning of the video literally perfectly described the type of style i want to learn LOL. it's so hard to find a video out there that specifically targets this style rather than say, an anime style hehe

I disagree with the awful advice on never draw "ugly people" beauty is subjective. Plus, if you draw people with more wrinkles, scar and freckles you'll learn to pay more attention to detail and etc! Other than that, her art's amazing! Solid advice too.

I draw on Ibispaint and I usually use around 20 layers to paint because sometimes i use "blending mode" most of the time.
