A good narrative on the geography of what is Micronesia. A historical narrative from the perspective of Colonialism is needed to shed more light on the political landscapes in the region.
I have been researching islands, became fascinated and still finding out if there is more. I would love to go to somewhere in the Micronesia. It looks beautiful. There is so many places in the world I wonder why not many people have thought of wanting to go to these islands, so many new cultures
I from Malaysia, i hope our cousin, from Guam and Mariana Island get it independent just like Palau and Federation of Mirconesia, your culture, architecture and tradition are unique. but what is mirconesia in native language, in Malaysia-Brunei and Indonesia included Filipino we called it 'Nusantara', Nusa mean Island, other word for Pulau/Pulo for Island in Malay and Indonesia. antara mean between. so Between Islands. because we travel between those island sumatra-borneo-java-sulawesi-bali-sumba-maluku and peninsular.
There is no word from Micronesia, just Micronesia. It was the white man that grouped us together as Micronesia lol. We were all seperate, but we had contact with each other. We were not united like Nusantara.
@@fredlibranza943 Not all Indonesian are Malayan, there are also Javanese which is quite different from Malays. Filipino is also a separate type of Austronesian. also its best u include the differences between western & eastern Micronesians. Western Micronesians are the Chamorros frm Guam & CNMI, main island Palau & main island Yap. Eastern Micronesians are Outer island Palauans of Pulo ano, Sonsorol & Hatohobei, Outer islanders of Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei, Kosrae, Marshall islanders, Gilbert islanders & Nauru excluding Kirilis islanders frm Kapingamarangi & Nukuoro because they are Polynesian outliers. Western Micronesians can directly trace their origins frm Southeast Asia & parts of Northern Papua while Eastern Micronesians can directly trace their culture, language, lineage & clans frm Solomon islands & Fiji. if u look closely Eastern languages are quite very different frm Western Micronesian languages even though they are all Austronesian languages. also the custom of chewing bettlenut which is strongly practiced in Southeast Asia. Eastern Micronesians & the rest of Oceania dont practice that.
Interesting.Language wise Micronesians have their natives tongues from the Austronesian family tree and have no connection to that of Melanesians. However culturally during the great migration both Micronesians and Polynesians exchanged traditions with the Melanesians.Well as genetics(but with few people).
@@smallislandenormousculture3023 That's exactly what this individual was talking about. Listed islands who were Melanesian intermixing with the Austronesian Micronesian and Polynesian are the people in the Salomon Islands, Fiji, Yap, and Palau. They speak Melanesian language, look Melanesian, but culturally and genetically mixed with the Austronesian of Micronesia and Polynesia. Languages are totally different, especially from Yap but Palau, Fiji and the Salomon islands language by now had already been influenced and mixed with the Austronesian language as well. So we can easily detect some Austronesian language influenced from these groups. Kapingamarangi and Nukuoro were last migrating groups down from Polynesia into Micronesia before this group divided up into two: Micronesia and Polynesia. Then there were the earliest contacts and interbreeding among those two Groups of Polynesia and Micronesia with the Melanesian thus resulted with these Melanesian cousins being discussed from the Salomon islands in PNG, Fiji of Polynesia, then Yap and Palau of Micronesia. Chamorros of Guam and Saipan were just like Kapingamarangi and Nukuoro as being the later arriving group, but this Chamorros came up from Indonesia and the Philipines during the European occupation to assume nativity and repopulating the islands of the Marianas and Guam by the Europeans. Due to them speak and look so similarly as the killed off Micronesian native of those islands at the time, in the eyes of the European they were just one and the same to repopulate the dying natives of the Marianas who were actually part of the Carolinian family group of Micronesia. People often think the Chamoros are the natives of Marianas but they were the earliest mixed with whatever left of the Carolinian in the Marianas who became more dominant and influencing whatever remains of the native Carolinian of Micronesia under the Spanish control to assume claim of being the native of the area. The Carolinan never stop returning and made contact with the Marianas. The late arriving Carolinian following the dying groups are now then became the foreigners in their own territory because now the Chamoro sat on the lands with their descendants of the dying Carolinian, European and their newly populating and dominant freshly migrating South East Asian ancestors from Indonesia and the Philipines to lay claim of nativity and claimed the Chamorro identity.
Smallislandenormousculture there was never a great Migration story. Every island, every clan, every village of each of every island has their own migration stories meaning one huge group of people(austronesians) did not just pick up & go. They moved from one place to another. They moved through southeast asia & coexisted with natives that were already there. After population growth war might have broke out between visiting groups, they might have lost & had to pick up & leave again. This happened on long periods of times. Or maybe there was a difference in climate that may have caused them to move. The islands of Chuuk alone has so many clans with so many migration history.
Amazing culture. I love learning about this. I'm moving to Hawaii and I just want to know what's MORE. What on the other side? We're never thought anything about you guys. Not even in University. ONLY Hawaii, and is not fair.
That's true. They don't really teach that much history about the Micronesian islands in the US, I think because we're more recent in their history. The first time America had anything to do with the Micronesian Islands was during World War II. Which is only about 80 years ago. But they teach a lot about Hawaii, because they had a longer history with Hawaii (like 200 years) and Hawaii was an important part to America's economy back then. The sugar plantations I believe.

Zulhelmifirdaus 1991 the many languages in Micronesia and Indonesia are descended from proto-malayo polynesian which is a branch of the Austronesian family tree. So there may be similarities between the many languages such as cognates and some grammar. However, since these languages have branched out from proto-malayo polynesian more than 3000 years ago, the languages are very different and are mutually unintelligible. There are dialectal spectrums we see such as in the Caroline islands, where there is varying degrees of mutual intelligibility; but there are still substantial linguistic differences depending on the locality. For these reasons, my answer is no, Micronesia and Indonesia do not speak the same languages. Hope this helps.
At 5:19 . Yall got the names mixed up. Chamorros were the first indigenous people to inhabit all of the 14 islands, its then during colinization that they segregated the chamorros to 1 island leaving the other 13 exposed to any outsyders which are the carolinians. . Do some research, spain did most of the documentation on the cnmi during ancient chamorro latte times 🇲🇵 biba taotao tano. I am a decendant of mostly chamorro blood , but also a decendant of carolinian by blood also. Imagine if we werent colonized , the chamorro blood will be pure, just as much as the gupalao .
Hafa Adai Jesse. He's not talking about what language each island speaks. He's talking about the whole Micronesian region is divided into 4 main groups; the Marianas, the Carolines, the Marshalls, and the Gilberts. When he talks about the Marianas region, he says that the region is divided into 2 COUNTRIES (not languages). They are CNMI and Guam. The map shows all the islands in that area are Chamorro, but 3 of the islands (the ones circled) also include Carolinian speakers. Hope that helps.

banaba island no longer exists. all the inhabitants relocated to Fiji who are now citizens of Fiji but culturally Micronesians.
Faanēngaaw Narruhn Nika ummmm 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣💀
There are about 330 permanent inhabitants on Banana even to this day. Banabans hold both Fijian and I-Kiribati citizenship. The majority (95%) of Banabans live on Rabi in Fiji. Politically Banana belongs to Kiribati however it is adminstered from Fiji by the traditional owners of the land, the Rabi Council of Leaders and Elders. The Banabans speak the I-Kiribati language and are culturally similar to the I-Kiribati people.
Not true it’s still has a functioning government under the republic of Kiribati
You're infamous for spreading stuff on here that aren't true.
Where did you get this from that they're culturally Micronesian? Lol.

A passport is important to be granted entry.
Passports must be valid for a 120-day period after the end of the intended visit.
An international proof of vaccination for Yellow fever, smallpox and Cholera is required.

Republic of Kiribati is also Micronesia
Micronesia is the PEOPLE who live on these islands with their TRADITIONS, RESPECT, & CULTURE.
Thanks now I got it. I'm from the Visayas/mid islands of the Philippines. We're all brothers I think. Same features and islands look similar. Our ancestors were called the Pintados full of tattoos and no clothes on top. Europeans/Magellan came and changed all that. I'm trying to learn my brothers and sisters from the Pacific islands. We all share the same culture and beliefs. Hope someday I can visit the Micronesia islands.
Many micros go over to the Philippines! Most of them are from Chuuk Micronesia.
@@ZZLUCKY_SIM micros migrated through Melanesia region.
Micronesians are the group out of the Pacific Islanders that are more related to the Philippines etc
@@IceCold4132
That's what I thought. I read it somewhere that there was a chicken DNA test that was related to our chicken. Isn't that something. I can picture my Lolo sailing to your islands with chicken and pigs in his boat. Hope to visit your islands someday. I grew up in Panay island, Iloilo City. Hope you also can visit us here. Long ago there's no borders and immigration. Our ancestors probably just sail back and forth in those islands . We have one town that speaks similar to Tonga. I'll be darn. They're really great sailors of the Pacific.
for MUN we had the country Marshall Islands and it’s in some agreement with the USA that includes Micronesia

micronesia and indonesia speak same or not?
@@pulanspeaks thank you 🙂
Thanku sir
i love micronesian i been in marshall island love you all
Do you know what pohnpei is🇫🇲?
Love the story, cheers'
