I have the same thought,no just only Sailor Pluto but also other Sailor Scouts' attack as well For example,I like they add more visual effect for World Shaking(eternal version, with the breaking ground and rocks floating around Sailor Uranus due to her attack)but still thinking the 90's is smoother and quicker than the new one
Fun fact: the colour that represents sailor pluto is black. Also love that the eternal version the attack colour is garnet instead of purple since that's saturn colour.
Can’t use tech to cheat the frames. Clearly Pluto needed more animated frames with the clouds of smoke whirling around her and the rotation was choppy af.
Pluto and Saturn got the worst transformation sequence on Eternal. It's sad because Mercury transformation is so beautifully done. And even World Shaking is awesome. I hate how they pick and choose treatment like this
i know this is a year old, it's not that Eternal's needed more frames, it needed better drawings/poses, it has more frames than the 90s in a lot of places, I think the top one is from Stars which used the S or SuperS movie's stock footage which flipped to being on ones and twos (and the original did so as well, but if you slow it down you can see inbetween some of the original's On Twos frames they switched it to On Ones by adding one more drawing between some poses). The 90s however looks or flows a lot better due to the drawings being consistent with the direftion of motion, lighting (the shading actually is based on the light from the energy ball near the end!), the impact frame after the second flash giving it that Oomph, ect ect. Eternal's is clunky, drawings and poses being inconsistent with previous drawing will make it look choppy despite the us amount of frames and it lacks weight... An example of oess can be more: 90s with the spin where it *skips* an entire frame (or drawing/pose in this case, the frame is still there) but the 90s hides this skip by adding a light trail (which is also a smear frame) with the glowing ball, and that trail follows the ball towards the very end and it vanishes accordingly. The skipped frame in conjunction with the trail gives her spin a sense of speed without having to draw a whole bunch. Eternal does this same skip but ignores and doesn't even add the ligth trail, losing that speed and weight and isntead looks chopoy. They also skip a turn when her back faces us so it looks like her glowing ball barely moved, or moving back and forth with no sense of direction. Another example is the hair, not only how it's drawn (very chunky in Eternal with no stringy thinner parts to look like hair), but the reason it curves the way ti does when it covers the screen is because Pluto is *turning* her body. But Eternal ignores this and instead she just zooms out from her face (and is suddenly with no indication, facing the other way), but the hair *still* curves as if she was spinning . So they took the visual cues from the 90s but did not undertsand anything that was happening in it. It's not tech, it's not digital art's fault, Eternal was hand drawn outside the finishing process, it's just the animator, maybe even the director she was a big 90s fan clearly, just didn't undertsand *why* the 90s anime had such good moments in animation despite the limits. The drawins are inconsistent with one another, not just off model (that close up whew), but just posing, line of action being very weak, and sense of direction is all over the place. If Etermal and by extension Season 3 of Crystal (same director) just did it's own thing for once like season 1 and 2 it wouldn't have been as much of a comparison and could probably stand on it's own. All 3 are extravagant and flashy but Eternal feels flashy without like understanding it, flashy for the sake of flashy. if that makes sense.
The new one got the color right. Garnet Orb is supposed to be magenta or maroon instead of purple. Purple is Saturn's color. I don't know why the 90s anime choose purple for that
I think I only grade Eternal/Crystal harder because of the technology of 2020.... The major complaint I have with the new one is the frame by frame skips... I agree with most the Haruka had definite upgrade among the outers
@CRUSHER CORPS Yes, I agree. I was a 90's kid and I feel so fortunate to have grown up in that era. So much good quality anime! It was honestly the best time ever.
There's no need for the extra frames other than the fact that it looms prettier because the viewers mind already fills in the movements mentally. This is a modern method of animating in anime and it also saves money for more important things.
@@soarixchannel5265 It's not a modern method, it's a method thats been used since Disney it's just the amount has changed (and said amount is based on the animator's style, not modernization). As for budget, not really the case. I had heard that Chiaki Kon (the director) said Covid played a role into the animation issues in 2019. You can give a project all the money in the world and it can still fall apart due to production issues (Eternal was delayed back in 2018, and then Covid hit in 2019), crappy scheduling, and sometimes the talent isn't there (not an attack towards the animator here I just mean in general). The lack of frames doesn't help at all in this case, cus it doesn't flow well in some parts. Even the 90s version skipped frames but the posing and the smear used for the ball when Pluto spins *helps* with filling those gaps and the pay off is more frames for the follow through. That smear is missing in Eternal so that sense of speed or motion isn't fully there, not to mention Pluto immeditaly comes to a screeching halt with no Easing or Follow Through (as in that little bit of movement when you stop moving or slow down), it makes it come off clunky and stiff instead of fast (or even comes off as too fast without the elegance). The hair kept moving to try and hide it but she stops too hard.
I'm actually surprised they copied the 90's version of Dead Scream given that in SMC Infinity 3, Chronos Typhoon was based on the first part of the 90's version of Dead Scream. They should've done something more original as opposed to another retrace. But, I did like the changes that they made.

I personally think the Outer Senshi's attacks were ruined because they chose to copy/paste instead of thinking of some new ideas.
THEY DID NOT COPY, DAMN, They only remastered because it's the same story, plus they only remastered because 90s fans pissed off Toei to make Crystal more like the original anime 🤦

I like effect of thunder storm in Eternal but the way she swing her staff to the right and after that look contrast cos after that the staff move to the left... that's weird.

The eternal drawings in a LOT of frames are ugly af. in the beginning, when she looks "behind" her with closed eyes, in the 90s anime is just elegant and meditating, in eternal is like a child drawing with aracnos hand and broken neck. And they used that same draw for a lot of frames while smoke, dust and energy swirl around. If you move the cursor you can have a side by side at 0:02. But also in the end of the sequence the drawings are messy and ugly. I cant' stand this remake.
