The Vikings were a people who lived in a harsh and dangerous world. They had to fight against enemies, diseases and accidents. But they also had a weapon that they could use to protect themselves and their loved ones: the herbs. In this film, you will learn about how the Vikings used herbs to treat wounds, boils and inflammation. Join me on an exciting journey in the Vikings’ natural first aid.
In this video I meet up with Gudrun who is a Völva (Vølve) - the Wise Woman of the Vikings.
She describes herself as a norse shaman with knowledge about nature and herbs and the Asatru belief of the vikings. She is going to teach my about the plants in my local area. Some for healing and medicinal purpose - and others purely for their values as a food source. Gudrun asked me if I wanted to learn - and I was not one to hesitate.
Gudrun is practising her beliefs, doing lectures on norse mythology and has also published a book. Be sure to check her out on all the platforms and give her some support. This is not a paid partnership of any sorts. We are simply trying to help each other out by supporting the work we do respectively. I hope to do another video with Gudrun in the future exploring the nordic myhtology and the asatru belief.

thank you for sharing interesting informations about plants. In France (but maybe in other coutries ?) you can eat comfrey pancakes : make a pancake recipe. Stick 2 leaves together, soak them in the mixture and fry them on both sides in some hot oil (3 mn). It looks like a fish and tastes delicious. But warning, this plant contains alcalloid and don't abuse of it, it can damage the liver (one time in the spring )
