0:00 - 0:15 This was Star Movies long-running and iconic station identification, used until the channel's rebranded that included the logo change in 2008-2009 (Star World changed its logo in November of that year). The changed logo would last until Star Movies' rebranding to Fox Movies Premium (became simply Fox Movies between June 2017 to September 2021, when the channel ceased to exist due to Disney's withdrawal from linear channels in Southeast Asia that involved almost all channels, except National Geographic that would at least continue for two more years). The Star World logo change in November 2010 did not affect the Star Movies logo, that would continue until the end of 2011, of which in January 2012 it became Fox Movies Premium.
0:15 - 0:25 Five seconds of movie classification (15 and G, at 0:15 and 0:20 respectively). Which country was this? In Malaysia, it was replaced by Astro's own, which would change in 2017-2018 and most recently in 2023.
0:43 - 0:53 When I see "Backdraft" movie on the schedule, at that time Star Movies also broadcast movies by other movie studios (except Warner Bros. which would usually broadcast on HBO and/or Cinemax). By the time of rebranding, I think movies by Sony / Columbia Pictures had ceased to appear on Star Movies, although would return in 2011, which continued with the rebranding to Fox Movies Premium and at least sister channels that focused on different movie genres (Family and Action). Godzilla (1998, TriStar / Sony) was one of the movies shown on the last day of Fox Action Movies as I saw it.
0:53 - 1:53 Based on this promo, it was actually 2008, instead of the year in the video description.
1:53 - 2:23 I mostly surf the Internet, so I might not know all movies shown on Star Movies. I was school at that time, so I do believe that Star Movies also had made-for-television movies (called "telefilem" in Malay language) during the mornings, but I could only watch it during the holidays as most of it were broadcast on weekdays. That was before the launch of Lifetime and the now-ceased Diva was still Hallmark Channel.
As you can see, before the HD era, Astro used to have the same three movie channels, consisted of HBO, Cinemax and Star Movies. When Astro started in 1996, the second movie channel was called MGM Gold instead of Cinemax that would be introduced in April 1998. It would be the same channels until 2010 - 2011, when they introduce Sundance Channel followed by Fox Family Movies and Fox Action Movies. The former was originally a temporary channel during 2011 - 2014, before became a permanent channel between 2014 - 2021. Unlike Fox Movies and Fox Action Movies, Fox Family Movies' last movie (Annabelle Hooper and the Ghosts of Nantucket) was shown on the Malaysian feed, while the other two ends its broadcast earlier due to them being one-hour delay (mainly to replace unsuitable movies for Malaysian audiences). Fox Family Movies was actually the first Fox Movies channel, even before the rebrand of Fox Movies Premium from Star Movies. In addition, Star Movies also used to be the only ad-supported movie channel on Astro between the three. While Astro launched many channels that focused on different segments, until 2010 the Movies package consisted of the same three channels.
Another note: During the 2007-2008 period, Astro moved virtually all of its channels to three-digit numbers, and in the case of Star Movies, the number was 413 (42 before the change).
