How do you figure? Given the current number of crossings, the border would be shutdown immediately once the bill was passed. This was a bi-partisan compromise negotiated with republicans. This bill actually goes farther than Trump wanted to. What exactly is your problem with it? I mean specifically?
How so? The president will be legally able to close the border without needing a national emergency. Border patrol will have the ability to actually process who should be allowed and who should be deported. The people will get work permits which means they’ll have to pay TAXES. Ukraine is the largest producer of sunflower oil in the world. They are the 5th largest producer of grain. They also have mineral resources that the world uses. They have a gdp of 200 billion. Whatever we send them we’ll get back. Btw most of that money is actually spent here in the US at US factories making the military equipment we are sending them. That means we won’t actually be losing much.

GOP leaders in the Sen negotiated a deal in good faith w/Dems where neither side got everything they wanted but enough to fix systemic issues that have been there for decades. Many things that Trump wanted in 2018. It will pass easily in both Chambers, but Johnson won’t let it.

You do know that the majority of the money will actually be spent here, in the US? It will pay companies like Lockheed Martin to build new equipment, Raytheon will get money to make new weapons (missiles and launchers) and replenish the stockpiles of ammunition. The only reason Speaker Mike Johnson could get Biden to even think about considering to change ANYTHING at the border was because Biden wanted Speaker Johnson to hold a vote for 60 billion more in funding for Ukraine. Otherwise 'negotiations' on the border which have subsequently brought the entire border issue into the national discussion would not have even happened.

If you look at the past CBP encounter data, if this bill was already law, the border would have been shut down in March 2021 and it would still be shut because the average has not been below 5000 a day since before then.

I’m American and 100% on board with this. Neither side got everything they wanted, but this is a good compromise and more importantly, makes significant steps to secure the border. The only people who don’t support this just want Trump to have some issue to run on since he’s got nothing else.

I believe the bill says "encounters" not "entrants" they are not allowing 4,999 people to come in and stay. The bill ends catch and release and speeds up the asylum process so that cases are settled in 6 months instead of years so people that don't qualify can be deported asap instead of remaining in America for years waiting for a court date.
It also gives the funding needed to deport people. This is the strongest border security/immigration bill we have had in decades.

Langford is basically saying we aren't letting 5000 people in and then letting them go. We are just letting them in and giving them more beds to sleep in and putting ankle monitors on the ones we don't have enough beds for, ...then we'll let _them_ go.

The fact that such a proposal could be put forward at a time when our border crisis is at it's all time worst makes clear the fact that our elected officials don't believe that they answer to their tax paying constituents. Foreign aid of any kind should be terminated. They should be paying us for services and materials rendered. How about taking care of our own domestic issues.
