I interpret it like this due to my own anxiety and depression and what Aes has shared about his feelings. Black snow is ugly. If you live in anywhere that snows, you know it gets dirty and black after a few hours near a road. Snow to people that have never seen it, seems peaceful and beautiful. They dont know that it can get ugly, both visually and physically. Accidents, snowed in if you get enough....I think the song is a metaphor for depression and being in a position where it seems like you should have life by the horns. Aes is an entertainer and on paper should be set in life (cash in the cupboard, free kicks clutter up him home. To someone not in his shoes, it appears to be ideal...beautiful, like snow to someone who has never been in a snow storm. When it snows, the outside is silent. Its an eerie silence. Depression and anxiety can make you suffer in silence. Your life looks great form the outside, but its whats under that fresh coat of pretty snow? The dirt, the grime. It may seem like a great thing to be snowed in for a day or so (it seems that way in the movies). But if you are alone, or in a depression, it sucks. You think of wierd things (try to split a lentel into 3, try to visualize your future with your tabby in the broth (Aes loves his cat Kirby (a tabby cat)) Second half of the song is the comeback, the fight. Im rambling and now my thoughts are getting mixed....but....yeah. I think its about how things can be pretty from the outside looking in, but in reality, you are suffering.
Anyway, that anthony fantano guy said this was "a mid closer" or some ish ...XDD It follows up on vititus, it's a meditation on decay, it twists into Nikki's beautiful part, transitions seamlessly into what may be Aes's filthiest beat ever [in terms of sheer filth], after vititus and the meditation into decay and the ethereal fading into whatever comes next THEN the filth part comes in with Aes saying "o death o death could you please hold moment I am so in effect" and then proceeding to non stop bar for the rest of the song Literally what more could you pretend to want from an album closer...? Musically it ends on a high; thematically it closes the conversation about modern life; in terms of the concept of ending an art project, he raps about a death that reshaped him then he raps about decay then the piece moves ethereal for just long enough to lull you (towards thoughts of "an end" [see what I did there - of the song but also thematically to death]) before it kicks that door right down and he says "o death could you please hold a moment I am so in effect" before he spits his closing thoughts - it's literally him thinking about the end but saying he's not there yet, then he ends it. Bruh, if you don't understand that you shouldn't be an art critic xD how is looking at life as it brings you forwards which brings you toward death enough to feel the swoon but then pulling yourself back and saying "I ain't done yet" _to end the track there_ [ie he's not done yet; he looks at life, it brings him forward, he sees death, he says not yet, that's where it ends because that's where he is, just standing in defiance of death, and we'll see what comes next when it comes], how is that "a mid closer" What the fuqq was he talking about when he called it a mid closer, it's both high concept with effectively flawless execution while still adhering to a beat that literally just made a man cry xDDD It's literally a closer in every contextually relevant sense of the word, where are the 20,000 albums with better closers than this (relevant to how they close their own piece), such that this can in any sane way be considered "a mid closer" xD It's the final story. The most human experience of all. Everything leads forward, but here we stand. O death, o death, we are so in effect. Get tf out of here dawg. "a mid closer"...... okay....
BEEN HOPING U SAVED SOME OF THE TRACKS TO WATCH W/ US!! his song off ITS album Bermudas has a female vocalist too & every line has the name of a flower woven into it! her chorus goes, "Blood Stains, ingrained, of pain, I'm slayed. I'm beat up, chewed up, drained But I'll send you flowers" AMAZING
:-: 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼.. Don't worry I thought about y'all when the album came out and knew I had to share the experience with y'all.. I'll assume Bermudas is a track on ITS.
@@iammrwack Yeah on ITS, Aggressive Steven is like the craziest story told in the clearest way A MASTERPIECE & i think u'll dig Pigeonometry too it's a way cooler more jaded Rings LOL & 100 Ft Tall will have u laughing for hours often ... CAN'T WAIT, well i can & will GLADLY WAIT
Probably my favorite MC/Rapper. But like you said, most the time I don't know EXACTLY what he's talking about but I know its smart. Great song none the less.
@Jay-pr4xz :-: To be real I'm not gonna lie and say you lying lol.. (Good word play) Frfr though I have but I wanted to share it with y'all.. See how much I held back.. Won't even enough to hold back my tears of joy 😂😂..
This song is about himself today, his family from yesterday and the generation of his family that first started working coal mines in the old days. He goes back in time to contrast his modern concerns and observations of his lifestyle and priorities vs theirs. Each time he says "black is the color of the snow" he goes back a little marking another change of "seasons". Controversially towards the end he goes hard against the modern trend of dismissing skin tones from the genre, motivated by a respect for the hard working people that made him.
