  • Iwan Gronow’s music has been shaped by his time and experiences in two worlds: his youth spent exploring the grunge scene in Cornwall and later becoming deeply embedded in the music of Manchester.
Iwan’s first three singles demonstrate his versatility as an artist with his debut, “In The Mire” combining a melodic Numan-Esque feel with a dark undercurrent. Single number two, “Second Guess” is a more upbeat, striding song that touches on influences from Depeche Mode and XTC. “Highest Symbol”, Iwan’s latest offering, feels more rural and hints at his past in the South West. It shows a different side to his creativity. While still deeply melodic and building in intensely throughout, the new material is introspective and is emotionally rich.
Moving to Manchester with his band Haven, Iwan started a new chapter in his musical journey. Throwing everything they owned into a van, Haven turned up on the doorstep of the late great Joe Moss. Joe, who managed The Smiths, built a strong relationship with Haven and would become the band’s manager and mentor. He introduced Haven to Johnny Marr, who produced both their albums. Haven signed to Radiate, a subsidiary of Virgin, and their debut album Between the Senses charted in the top 20. The album included the hits “Say Something” and “Till the End”.
In 2013, Iwan was invited to play bass in Johnny’s band, a position he’s held ever since. As well as performing on the albums Playland and Call The Comet, Iwan has toured the world and played many festivals including Glastonbury, Coachella and Fuji Rock while also appearing on Later with Jools Holland and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
    About ‘Highest Symbol’
“Highest Symbol is a term used in cards. I watched a program which stuck with me. A story about a man who had a stable career and family and lost it all to gambling. It's something I couldn’t get out of my head. Highest Symbol is about the dominance of betting and gambling within our society. Whether it is online, at the bookies or casino gambling “there’s no sense inlining your pockets green, it won’t stop the lying and the running fees”. It approaches the false hope “sea of dreams” the loss “you left and failed to mention what threw you out” and the danger “roulette a sense to rush” fuelled by gambling.
The Highest Symbol video produced and directed by Emily Jade Hagan tries to capture this sense of undeniable risk, loss and loneliness. We wanted to show how everything can quickly disappear, how a past life can turn to a distant memory.” - Iwan Gronow
Highest Symbol carries an intimate, raw energy, a sense of looking back, conjures feelings of regret, loss, and longing. The song is melodic, contemplative, but still shimmers with life, as seen through the artist’s eye.

There is a lot of reasons to say this song is HEAVY. But I love the way you put ur soul in it. This is the type of music industry needs now. Where you are putting peace of yourself into. Congrats with release.
