The puck was over the line. I'll never forget that 04 cup final. Even as a nucks fan it broke my heart to see the Flames robbed of a cup like that. I was rooting for them in 04 and the Oilers in 06, those teams were a lot of fun to watch.
Here in Colorado we are well aware of the greatness that is Miikka Kiprusoff. As a goaltender he was one of my primary influences and an all time favorite.
As a flames fan, Iginla and Kipper are legends in Calgary and forever will be. People often forget but there was legitimate talk of the Flames leaving Calgary in the early 2000's. Canada had lost Winnipeg and Quebec City and there were legitimate talks of others leaving, including the flames. They even produced a campaign to keep the team in calgary called "save the flames". Then the flames went on their magical run in 2004 and came within a game of winning it all. While the team is still currently looking for their 2nd cup at the time I write this comment, what they did win was win over the city and re-ignite the fanbase. Yes, there have been bad seasons where there has been frustration and people being upset with the team. The team has not been as bad as the late 90's/early 2000's Flames. In a weird way, the 04 flames, saved the flames and a large part of that is because of Iggy and Kipper. Kipper's jersey retirement is well earned and deserved. Congrats Kipper
I was a Flames fan growing up (until Winnipeg came back) and some of my fondest memories were the Flames/Canucks matchups, Kiprusoff vs. Luongo. Legendary goaltending rivalry
I was born and still am a die hard Oiler fan and growing up my room was painted blue with all my Oiler memorabilia except for the one kipper poster that I got at a scholastic book fair. He’s a legend for sure.
I think most people my age and older still remember him very well here in Finland, he was definitely a big part of the golden age of Finnish goaltenders and someone most goalies around my age would probably name as one of their childhood heroes.
Sutter and Kipper were together in SJ before Sutter came to Calgary as coach/GM. Sutter saw Kipper was underperforming in SJ, but had a huge ceiling. When Sutter got coaching/GM duties in Calgary, he knew he could fleece SJ in a trade if Kipper could meet his potential. Thanks for the ride, 34. Forever a Flame. 🔥
Tells something about Sharks goaltending coaching. Kipper was behind Nabokov and Toskala. Toskala never won anything in Finland. He was once at the finals at 98 against Ifk and next year Kipper was at the finals against Ifk and they won it ( against some goalie called Tim Thomas) Kipper had a really solid reputation in Finland. He did play bad games in 2001 World Championships and lost his position to Pasi Nurminen. During those days team Finlands goalie position was "windy" and Head coach Aravirta didn't have any favorites. He looked for the hot goalie. In overall Kiprusoff was the goalie that could do it if he had the support from the coaching staff.
Kiprusoff was one of the greatest goalies Finland ever had. 2004 World Cup of Hockey was phenomenal from him too, but some finnish hockey fans kinda threw him under the bus after the 2010 olympic semi-final, which is very sad and stupid
kipper is the sole reason i ever played goalie growing up. Started playing hockey as a forward and swapped positions cuz of the impact kipper showed a goalie could have on a team
thanks for this... some very fond memories of that run. 17th avenue (the red mile) was incredible. one memory that sticks with me is the cops making a guy dump his beer out... and when his dog started lapping up the beer off the street, all the passers-by cheered for the dog. even the cops chuckled at that.
Kipper was the most consistent player, many nights the only player keeping the Flames from losing, night after night home and away for his entire time with the Flames, the all-time greatest Flames player IMHO
If only I had been around before 2005 to witness Kiprussoff (in-person on TV), as a Leafs fan. Imagine if Toronto ever had him at some point. To echo @JohnnyHawkey and other commenters, it's quite understated when we say that this guy had an insanely amazing reputation and style of play made him even better - a true man of gold!
Growing up kipper being my icon even wearing his numbers in my goalie days im so excited and heartwarmed to see his banner raised and ill be there to see it all shake down love you 34❤
dude rapidly became my favorite player when i started watching hockey as a kid in 2004, just because 34 was my favorite number and i was looking for players with that number. He was on fire
I’ve personally always liked Vernon and he did win the only cup in Flames history in 89 but Kiprusoff in my opinion was better. If you look at the kind of players that played in front of Vernon you have the likes of Fleury, Roberts, Nieuwendyk, MacDonald, MacInnis, Suter and others as well whereas the only bonafide star I can think of that played in front of Kipper was Iginla.
It’s about damn time!!!! I called for this when Iggy got put up into the rafters! Two of my favourite players of all time, and two of this city’s most believed people of all time. We will always have a giant place in our heart for the 2004 Cup Winning Flames squad!
Vernon was in net for the cup in '89, which was pay back for '86. (fuck P. Roy), but I have never seen a province, country come together to cheer for a team like they did in '04 for the Flames. What a wicked time!
The Flames way overplayed him. After the lockout he went from playing 38 games to 70+ games every single year from 2005 to 2012 and his numbers suffered from being over worked. The Flames mis-managed a fantastic talent.
Personally, I will never forget how when women in Calgary heard his name chanted over and over it would somehow lift up their shirts from the waist to the shoulder and exposed their breasts for all to see. They wouldnt immediately pull their shirts down as one might expect! It was from the shock I suppose. Strangest thing.

Kipper's reputation makes him even more legendary. Guy looooved his smokes hahah

Iggy and Kipper in 2004. What a playoff run!
And Connie and Gely

Amen to that 🔥🔥
Fk yea
Easily Top 5 goalies of the era, well deserved.
I am a Leafs fan and even I admire him.
He, CuJo and the GOAT Hasek are my favorite Goalies. :)
I was a Flames fan growing up (until Winnipeg came back) and some of my fondest memories were the Flames/Canucks matchups, Kiprusoff vs. Luongo. Legendary goaltending rivalry
As a Canucks fan I have lots of respect for kipper and will always enjoy the battles we had with you guys!! Enjoy the Hall Kip!!❤
Love kipper my favorite player a kid. He was magical.
Forget just flames fans, Im a Wings fan and Ill never forget him. Great Goalie.

Kipper was my favourite player in the league. Such a good goalie.
One of my favorite goalies of all time!

muahaahah! THe Red Mile was for sure a great time!
A great thing for Flames fans in these tough times. Kipper deserves it for sure
kipper da king. no 5 consonants light my brain up like hearing his name
Kipper was the most consistent player, many nights the only player keeping the Flames from losing, night after night home and away for his entire time with the Flames, the all-time greatest Flames player IMHO
I hope Dustin Wolf starts on Kipper night. Honour the past, start the future.
That was a goal btw.
Yes, it was. But sadly, the league’s script writers needed an American team to win it all.
I’m 2004? No it wasnt. If they had proper coaches challenge than yes, that would have been a goal.
@@pixelplayzroblox1212yes it was
@@peterloewen1533 no it wasn’t, flames for the cup 2004
@@pixelplayzroblox1212 Exactly the flames should've won

Man... '04 playoff hockey, truly the good old days for us millenial hockey fans
That serious was so good. Tight fought
dude rapidly became my favorite player when i started watching hockey as a kid in 2004, just because 34 was my favorite number and i was looking for players with that number. He was on fire
04 cup final Game 6 flames goal was in fo show i was there saw it plain as day
Kiprusoff is a legend, and is the reason the Flames made it to the finals in 2004
He should have won the Con Smythe in 04, literally the biggest reason why they got to the cup final.
Best goalie ever. Bar none. IMO. A freaking god.
As an [almost] lifelong fan of the lightning this video makes me smile, I remember worrying we'd lose the finals
Mika was a legand, great tendie
It is crazy to imagine that he had a shutout on average every 7-8 games. Kipper was a fucking brickwall.
Paul Kariya & Marty St.Louis were my fav players growing up
This is a move by the team to give the fans something to cheer about. Pretty standard action in a teams downturn
Rarely lost back to back..Kipper was gold.

Hi! Love your vids! I somehow saw this video 48 seconds after it was posted.
Kipp legend. So happy for him

#34🔥C
#GoFlamesGo
He deserves this accolade after pulling off "the scorpion"...
Saku Koivu was my mid 2000s guy
Man just hearing Nikolai Khabibulin name brought me back to OG nhl 2005 haha!
This video shows how young is the channel person itself. Jeezz..Feeling old myself.
The puck was in.
yes it was. we were robbed.
boo hoo
Torille! Greeting from Finland, love your channel btw :>
If Corey Perry's goal in the the first game in round one Tampa vs. the leafs was a goal. Then Kipper fucking won the cup in 04. Same with Iggy.
As he should. Also, that puck was definitely in the net.
Finally Flames retired kipper's number 34
Vernon was in net for the cup in '89, which was pay back for '86. (fuck P. Roy), but I have never seen a province, country come together to cheer for a team like they did in '04 for the Flames. What a wicked time!
as a flames fan i love the flames and idk
This is totally legit, kipper was insane for Calgary. And that's my take as a Canucks fan... lol
Waiting patiently for that March 2nd game to go on sale...
If Kiprusoff was Canadian or American he would already be in the HOF.
Best finnish goalie
Not even close to Myllys.
@@imulippo5245I'LL take Kipper over Rask
We should have won the cup but the refs and cameras were blind asf... we got robbed hard and it still stings and mad about it
Kipper is one of the greatest goalies in NHL history. Those Flames teams were not very good but Kipper gave them a chance to win every single night.
Dany Heatley had 50 in '07
Thank you Gary Bettman.
I loved that 2004 Flames team. I'm still annoyed the league has essentially banned that playstyle.
what do you mean banned? (i was born in 04 so i’m just curious)
Deckonis O'Pancreas
is a good name
As a young Ducks fan, I HATED Kipper, always came to play against Anaheim.
2004 stanly Cup champion (it was in)
More pain as a Sharks fan 😢
Congrats to Kipper, tho
We already had Nabokov and the pick ended up being Vlasic, and Kipper wasn't great for us
Nabokov was pretty good for you guys though.
👍👍❤️
You should cover the 3ice stuff
reminds me of the Gustavsson trade as a sens fan. ouch
Another good one that got away from the Sharks. They had Nabby however so yeah.
Dude terrorized the Minnesota Wild.
I liked Trevor Kidd? He was fun too.
Calling him "Kiprusoft" is just straight up disrespectful...
It’s about freaking time. He deserves the love. But Goaltenders never get the love they deserve. HTF is osgood not in the HOF 🤦♂️
Your videos are really good keep up the great work Eck

Early 2000's Nostalgia Bombs:
Oilers Hemsky
Senators Chara
Ducks Giguere
Sharks Cheechoo
Panthers Jokinen
Stars Modano
Bruins Thornton
Avalanche Sakic
Leafs Sundin
Canucks Naslund
Flames fan but I always did like Hemsky
@@flare2000x great finesse player. joy to watch.
Kipper kid better be there is full gear!
I remembr u got him frm San Jose for practically nothing🔥
Do you watch CFL mate?

Kiprusoft? Like… like Microsoft but Kipruer?
I htink, I'm not 100% sure, but I think I have Kiprusoff as a Shark.
Yup also can I get a shout out?
Honestly this should have happened earlier than having it this coming season deserves tk have it retired
Roberto luongo
Blueberries and cigarettes :)
Lacrosse channel? 🥍
Hello
Cujooooooo
There is no T in Kiprusoff. 🤦🏻♂️
I love the Kipper, but I think Mike Vernon or Danny Bouchard deserve the top Flames goalies.
First one here
All this while smoking ciggs between periods. Insanity.
Sorry Martin St. Louis was your dad’s favourite GROWING UP? Jesus how young was he when he forgot to pull out?
When *I* was growing up
