The puck was over the line. I'll never forget that 04 cup final. Even as a nucks fan it broke my heart to see the Flames robbed of a cup like that. I was rooting for them in 04 and the Oilers in 06, those teams were a lot of fun to watch.

Here in Colorado we are well aware of the greatness that is Miikka Kiprusoff. As a goaltender he was one of my primary influences and an all time favorite.

As a flames fan, Iginla and Kipper are legends in Calgary and forever will be. People often forget but there was legitimate talk of the Flames leaving Calgary in the early 2000's. Canada had lost Winnipeg and Quebec City and there were legitimate talks of others leaving, including the flames. They even produced a campaign to keep the team in calgary called "save the flames". Then the flames went on their magical run in 2004 and came within a game of winning it all.
While the team is still currently looking for their 2nd cup at the time I write this comment, what they did win was win over the city and re-ignite the fanbase. Yes, there have been bad seasons where there has been frustration and people being upset with the team. The team has not been as bad as the late 90's/early 2000's Flames.
In a weird way, the 04 flames, saved the flames and a large part of that is because of Iggy and Kipper. Kipper's jersey retirement is well earned and deserved. Congrats Kipper

Sutter and Kipper were together in SJ before Sutter came to Calgary as coach/GM. Sutter saw Kipper was underperforming in SJ, but had a huge ceiling. When Sutter got coaching/GM duties in Calgary, he knew he could fleece SJ in a trade if Kipper could meet his potential.
Thanks for the ride, 34. Forever a Flame. 🔥

Tells something about Sharks goaltending coaching. Kipper was behind Nabokov and Toskala. Toskala never won anything in Finland. He was once at the finals at 98 against Ifk and next year Kipper was at the finals against Ifk and they won it ( against some goalie called Tim Thomas)
Kipper had a really solid reputation in Finland.
He did play bad games in 2001 World Championships and lost his position to Pasi Nurminen. During those days team Finlands goalie position was "windy" and Head coach Aravirta didn't have any favorites. He looked for the hot goalie.
In overall Kiprusoff was the goalie that could do it if he had the support from the coaching staff.

If you look at the kind of players that played in front of Vernon you have the likes of Fleury, Roberts, Nieuwendyk, MacDonald, MacInnis, Suter and others as well whereas the only bonafide star I can think of that played in front of Kipper was Iginla.
