How To Minimize Chipouts In Speaker Box Building

Although you can't eliminate would tearouts, we can get pretty close, especially where it counts. I'll share a few tips on how to get great finished edges on your speaker box.

If you care, even where it doesn't matter, put down a steel straightedge and score the line with a knife on the side that will be prone to tearout. The difference is night and day. Alternatively, use a router with guides and templates.
Finally, something I never see anyone mantion- when you're cutting diagonally across the grain it matters a lot which way you're going. Like petting a cat, you can cut with or against the grain on a diagonal and it also makes a world of difference.
