Not bad! A few tips from a professional tile & bath contractor: 1) Backerboard should ALWAYS be put down with thinset everywhere underneath. Thinset is necessary for proper support. Also, if there's low spots, it should be corrected with self leveler. Not floated with thinset. I personally use an uncoupling membrane such as DITRA for my tile underlayment. Faster, easier, & better performance than backerboard. And on a floor that small, the extra cost is just a few dollars. 2) Although the tub walls will likely not see much water, you probably would have used some kind of waterproofing over the sheetrock such as KERDI. Or even used 1/2" backerboard with a liquid waterproofing membrane. 3) I saw that your dad was actually back buttering all the tiles. Excellent! Lots of folks (even some "pros") skip this crucial step. Proper mortar coverage is insanely important for tile project to actually last.

I don't know what your background is, but I must say I am impressed with your skill level, your calm in a storm when things went wrong, and your overall good luck with this reno. My husband & I renovated two bathrooms in our home. Like you, he did not enjoy plumbing, either. Still, he had a natural talent & skill in all areas of renovation, construction & carpentry. I was his apprentice, assistant, gopher and designer-in-chief. But nothing went as smoothly for us as it seemed to for you. Congrats & kudos for a job well done. I hope your wife appreciates all the patience, skills and knowledge you displayed in this video.👍

It really looks amazing. Also looks like it's been done by a professional. Nice job. Nicely done though. It seriously looks amazing.

It's beautiful! Thanks for sharing. I admire your patience and tenacity to get the job done. Same thing happened to us when our cat jumped off the toilet which had a mirror sitting on top of it. The mirror fell and landed on the water pipe, cutting the pipe off into the wall!! The bathroom and hall flooded but so did the ceiling that leaked down into the basement. This happened again when hubby forgot to turn the water off while installing the dishwasher and our whole kitchen floor flooded! All in the same week. But we lived .LOL It happens and I loved the way you guys handled it. Good job.

I am ever so impressed with your bathroom. Now it looks amazing. I moved into my home in 2010 and my kitchen floor was wet. It took my builder two weeks to get it dry again. I had a Disabled Facilities Grant to create a new shower room. I miss not having a bath. While the work was being done we stayed at a hotel and it had a bath which I loved using.
One piece of advice: when peeling up linoleum flooring, heat it up with a heatgun or at least a good high-powered hair drier, and that will loosen the glue up.

"it took about 4 hours but here's the 15 seconds version" lmaooo
LOL I know! The dryness of his tone was fantastic.
You did a beautiful job!!! Very professional & that baby... OH MY GOODNESS.... SHE IS PRECIOUS!!!!! I remember those days of babies crying in the background. Cherish the times (people use to tell me) they don't last & you will miss it. (there is truth in that.. now that I am older I see it.)
What a beautiful young family. As a mother of three people your age, I have to say, I’m so proud of you!! What an amazing job. Patience, intelligence, troubleshooting and hard work. This video was a breath of fresh air. Congrats on your new home and your beautiful family! Bathroom looks amazing! I’m a Realtor, so I watched intently. 😊
Cecilia Sherrard You said exactly was I was about to say. 👌🏼👍🏼❣️
What an amazing job you did... this video was just so satisfying to watch . The end result was absolutely gorgeous.. your baby girl is adorable, your wife is such a team player.. kudos to your pops as well..
U shld caulk the seam between ur sink top and back splash so no more water damage.
Awesome job.. lovely bathroom!
Idk what you do for a living but if it ain’t this you might wanna consider it
I'm a finance guy... so yep completely different field lol
@@TheQuadView1 you sure.do have a lot of tools for the trade....
ShooterMedic he probably rented it
@@ShooterMedic1818 Yep - I bought a lot of tools for this project.... knowing I'll use them for many years to come
@@TheQuadView1Absolutely amazing video...how much did the tools roughly cost? I'm considering purchasing this but still tentative to remodel
"It took about 4 hours but here;s the 15 second version" lmao thanks
I’m in the middle of remodeling my bathroom...this gives me hope. Your bathroom came out amazingly beautiful! Your daughter with the lovely red hair is beautiful. Thanks for sharing your journey-you did well in editing.
Best of luck in your remodel!! You got this 😁
Thanks! This was filmed almost 2 years ago... the little baby in the video is now a sweet (and occasionally fiesty) almost 3 yr old! Time flies
As a 22 y/o female I’m not sure why exactly I’m watching this video but lemme tell ya this was satisfying beyond belief!!! Amazing job! It makes me excited to DIY around my own house in the future, LOL!
Wonderful job!
I REALLY appreciate the laugh this morning with the busted pipe. I needed that!
So great to see someone your age tackling a proper remodel. Should you need to sell the house in the future, this video should help verify the quality of workmanship you provide.
Most bathroom makeover videos are only "on trend hacks" that will cost the owners dearly upon resell.
This is quality work. Great job!
I am so proud of you! That bathroom looks gorgeous. Wish my husband was as calm and cool as you were. He would've tore that thing up with the first mistake he made in there. You did an awesome job. I'm sure you feel so good doing it yourself and accomplishing all that. Thank you for posting that redo. Loved watching it. Again, great job!!!
Thanks so much! You're so kind
deb p I relate !! If only my husband could work calmly and in Such a neat way ! This was almost unbelievable , hehe nothing like my renovation projects at home !
Good shit. I’m glad you put in your mistakes 👍🏾
I think you did an absolutely amazing job. It looks beautiful. I am super happy to know that you did this all by yourself and didn't pay some renovators to do it. You should be proud. Your wife did an amazing job decorating......GREAT JOB
anyone gonna point out at 2:05 yall almost died as that extension cord is literally almost sitting in a puddle of water
I didn't notice during the heat of the moment, but definitely noticed when reviewing the footage! Ahhh 🤪🤪
I've done this a million times as a carpenter. You'll be fine. Getting shocked by 110 is no biggie if you don't have a pacemaker
I know I saw that. I was like oh no, water and electricity...
SharpStudios0 only dangerous if it had a nick in the line. I have an extension cord partially buried and protected but some in puddles when it rains. I always check for breakages
SharpStudios0 Actually, those socks scared me the most!
Looks amazing and I enjoyed this video a lot! Straight to the point and you didn’t talk too much lol
It really looks amazing. Also looks like it's been done by a professional. Nice job. I've noticed doing my own renovations around my house is that we, the homeowners, tend to pay a lot more attention to details than what a hired contractor would, because it's our home and we take pride in how it looks and comes out. Nicely done though. It seriously looks amazing.
My husband drills 4 holes on the wall and gets so exhausted, he takes the rest of the day off!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂, girl, I hope you gave him a nice wonderful massage after this whole ordeal, you have a hard worker in your life and he definitely takes good care of his family!!!
Same here!! 😄
Mine too. Looking to renovate our bathroom and everything he says is it’s too expensive but does nothing. Feeling annoyed.
Lazy man!
BEAUTIFUL Nothing is as nice as a HANDY HUSBAND !!! What a difference !!!! NICE JOB !
Love the clip with the water, it’s a really realistic video of redoing a bathroom 😂
Haha thanks!
Heck From the title I thought That I could do it👀👀😂 lies I tell Ya!! All Lies😂😂 Awesome job
Good job but honestly I was worried with all that water and the electrical wires. You guys were standing in the puddle of water scary moments. Be careful
We didn't even think about it in the moment of panic, but watching it now I am like oh wow. Not good!
Why were you "worried"!!?! Unless maybe you actually believe it makes sense that he DID get electrocuted, DIED, and still managed to somehow upload a RUclips video postmortem!!? 🤦. The video's been uploaded - so chances are, if you're WATCHING it - nothing major happened!!
G Raws, i’m sure that viewer was only looking out for their safety so others viewing won’t repeat the same mistakes. God I hate people who take something positive and make it a negative.
that orange cord is to be used inside and outside and it can get wet ..i would think?
It's beautiful! Thanks for sharing. I admire your patience and tenacity to get the job done. Same thing happened to us when our cat jumped off the toilet which had a mirror sitting on top of it. The mirror fell and landed on the water pipe, cutting the pipe off into the wall!! The bathroom and hall flooded but so did the ceiling that leaked down into the basement. This happened again when hubby forgot to turn the water off while installing the dishwasher and our whole kitchen floor flooded! All in the same week. But we lived .LOL It happens and I loved the way you guys handled it. Good job.
There is no way I could do any of this! But, I enjoyed watching this video... lovely family and adorable baby!
Great job! Thank you for letting us into your home and showing us the realty of owning a house. God bless you and your beautiful family
Thanks!
Audio maudio .... well done man! I wish I had a husband as committed as u! Bravo!
Great job but the sound leveling dude.. my ears when the miter saw went off
One of the most useful videos I've watched on RUclips in a while. Thank you for sharing Alex.
The smile on your baby girl at the end just made my day. Adorable! ♥️
Awwww! 😊😊
I particularly enjoyed this. I love the outcome of the project but also thought it pretty special watching the family dynamics. I love that your dad was there to help and the support of your wife and hella gorgeous munchkin. I find it admirable that a young man such as yourself took this on to benefit your family and both you and your wife appear to make to make such a great team. Blessings to you all. Fab reno.
Congratulations!!!
You did an amazing job, considering you had no experience.
Now do you want to come and do my bathroom????
I'm in Melbourne Australia.
Great job, I hope your wife is very proud of you. Robyn
These will be the moments you remember forever! The baby was beyond adorable. I have a red head myself (son) Jeez the loving with temper lol I love the bathroom
Haha thanks! We now have 2 red heads lol
Alex Wheeler congratulations! Your hands are full now lol Both of my boys where carrot tops but the youngest some how grew out of it but kind of still has red hair. It’s so weird :) Well good luck with your beautiful family and home.

ty apirak 8?
You did BEAUTIFUL work! And you made some wonderful choices for paint, flooring, vanity, etc. Really nice!
looks really nice but damn that was a lot of work
And how do people doing a DIY always have such expensive, high level equipment?
@@richardmayora1289
I was thinking the same thing Nick. Who what has all those tools?
The know how to do eveything must have saved them a ton of money.
Bathroom looked great.
Nick Mayor maybe all the money saved from labor goes to all the tools 🤔
That was a beautiful Reno job! I was impressed by how thorough you were with the floor repair. The whole thing looks fantastic. Last summer I joked about how I spent all summer in the bathroom. I renovated the bathroom in my 100 plus year old house but not to the degree you did. It look 100% better but not as nice as yours. I’m a 70year old so I don’t have your stamina but it still feels great, now that it’s done!
And also awesome reaction! You ran straight to the valve right away 👍🏻👍🏻
You guys did a wonderful job on this project. One thing I noticed is that you have all the tools, and know-how to use them. That's part of the issue when you're doing a DIY. Congratulations on a job well done. On a side note: it's so very appealing when you have a man that can fix things around the house!
I feel like a proud mama watching. Proud of you on doing certain things you have never done.
Aww thanks 🥰
@@TheQuadView1 😆
How the fk is this your first time?! You are basically a professional.
Beating Variance can’t possibly be his first time. Lol
it took him 3 months
Well done...you guys have the most important thing needed for this kind of project: patience! Congrats!
I guess from your experience, you got to appreciate why the pros charge what they do. They only make it look easy.
Agreed!!
Alex, great job! Looks like a professional contractor did the work.
One piece of advice: when peeling up linoleum flooring, heat it up with a heatgun or at least a good high-powered hair drier, and that will loosen the glue up.
Good job Papa Bear!!!!! I am in the process of shopping for a home with the fiancé this was definitely a diy inspo!!! Thanks!!!
`your perseverance is commendable, a great ovation for your hard work..
can we take a minute to appreciate how the cuteness overload the little baby is giving...omggg so precious.
Wow, I wish I had one of you at my house! Great job! Thorough and clean! Beautiful family!
Absolutely gorgeous! I’ve owned apartments and helped build houses to sell (realtor) and I feel your pain in some of those challenges but my gosh what a beautiful job you’ve done! So impressive!
Thank you!!
This is literally so amazing. It looks like a spa bathroom! And this is the first one you’ve ever done?! Wow.
Hi just came across your site, I love renovation jobs. Have subscribed. Great job, floor looks great. Good job done. From Sharon in the 🇬🇧 UK.
You really inspire me to get off my butt and add a little "pop" To my very dull looking home...Thankyou
Haha! No problem!
I’m INSPIRED!!(speaking solely as a husband whose wife wants him to take on many projects at home while manning a full-time Supervisory Job). Great video and well-timed! Kudos. It does help to have a lot of tools on hand though
This was amazing job well done and thanks Dad for helping your son nothing like a Father and Son Duo
Thanks! Dad is the best!
I am so proud of you. This may be training for your own construction company. Your work is exceptionally neat too. Super job. I love watching you work too. This must be a great feeling when you are done to look at it.
I love the honesty on how long it took you despite having some help here and there. It took me about 3 weeks to completely scrape off, primer 3 layers and paint 3 layers on my bathroom ceiling... the bathroom is half the size of yours. I started to feel like my first home project is going to be my last until I watched this. Take pride in the motivation you give others by sharing this video
Beautiful, Asking God for a Husband That an build with his hands. 😊
Think my husband prayed for a wife that can do it all 👀🤣🤣🤣
Laughed when the water sprayed all over! Mainly because it made me remember that the same happened to me when doing my first bath renovation!
Alex Wheeler I know that you finish your bathroom 2 years ago. But this is the first time I ever saw it. Beautiful good job now I am greatly inspired. Thank you
Lydia Johnson from Chicago
Beautiful bathroom and beautiful little family. Your baby is the cutest that I have ever seen!
