"Maison" is part 1 of the Apocalypse trilogy. Dreamcatcher are touching on a very important subject here. Maison is French for "house" or rather "home", and they are singing about everyone's home, which is our planet. Previously they talked about online hate, now they are tackling an issue that impacts the whole planet and therefore everyone. Climate change is going to affect all of us, and it is already affecting many people. Island Nations will disappear under the ocean ("Save my home in the ocean"). Ice melts in the arctic and displaces people ("Save my home in the polar"). Forests get decimated by corporate greed and habitats get destroyed ("Save my home in the jungle") and disappearing glaciers and snow packs result in even less water for deserts ("Save my home in the desert").
People have a natural tendency to ignore issues that seem to be in the future - but climate change is here, right now. We can't wait anymore, and it is good that Dreamcatcher use their platform to promote change: "Break your habit now!"
Musically I really enjoy the song. Like in BEcause, the rock/metal vibe is dialed back a bit, but it is still there and highly distorted. Although the more I listen to it, the more Rock I hear. I especially like how the pre-chorus and chorus seems to appear out of nowhere, the chord progression in the bridge, and the epic end part. The bass line is crazy as well. LEEZ and Ollounder (their producers) have done it again, and the members are just brilliant. Respect!
"Vision" is part 2 of the Apocalypse trilogy. I believe they are showing us the perspective from the future in this series, showing us how the earth looks like when we keep acting like we do. While "Maison" was talking about the destruction of the environment, here they seem to be talking about the destruction due to war. I don't know if that was the idea from the beginning, but Putin's aggression definitely played a role here. In one set they even dance in front of what looks sort of like a huge trident, which is the coat of arms of Ukraine (could be a coincidence though, or this is me seeing things). It could be about North Korea as well after all.
It is easy to see how the conflict in Ukraine could result in global destruction. It's just a push of a button away. Note that Dami presses a launch button, but it's not for nukes. It's for spreading their message, their vision. Peace. To be heard all around the world. The song is also a call for action, to stand together against aggressors and those who are destroying the planet out of greed. There is not much difference between someone leading an army or a corporation, if the result is destruction. Still, Dami said the intention is to resolve the problems in a peaceful way.
So, what do we do? There is no easy answer. Dami has an outfit that shows that perfectly. One half is an innocent bridal dress, the other half is simply badass. What I know is that any aggressor only listens to very limited diplomacy, and they need to know that the good in the world is ready and willing to fight them if needed. Whoever the aggressor is, we are more than them. They need to know they will never succeed, the only option is peace.
By the way, my interpretation could be completely wrong, any other theory is perfectly valid as well.
Musically, it's heavier than Maison, and I feel it fits the subject matter very well. It sounds aggressive and heavy, but also soft and vulnerable. There is the duality again. And I love the fake keychange at the end of the chorus, the crazy bass and the guitar in the bridge. All in all this is a fantastic release!
If you like Nightwish, you really need to check out their Japanese b-side "Don't light my fire". It is the baby of Evanescence and Nightwish's Nemo!

    dreamcatcher \:D/
of course some of us know nightwish. a fair bunch of insomnias are from the rock/metal side. and the one you asked about the tattoos, yes they are real. that's siyeon the main vocal and rocker girl :D
dreamcatcher uses a lot of pop-culture references in a tongue and cheek manner to help convey their themes. like the mickey mouse cartoon characters at the start of maison were just symbolizing corporations. also dreamcatcher is from a small company and they started out at rock bottom so their budget can't be compared to twice's mvs. the cgi in maison and vision were actually poorly rated by some with film background. dreamcatcher choose to use all cgi in maison to save on set waste since the theme was environmental protection.
without writing an essay because you can break down every scene lol, the visual plot is them coming to earth to help save us by warning us of our destructive ways. maison and vision gave gloomy outlooks as a warning but bon voyage gave a more hopeful message that it's not too late. with the celebratory mission accomplished fireworks, we can now bid them bon voyage.
lastly on dreamcatcher's music, almost none of their songs sound the same. each uses different elements of music and they rarely revisit the same aspect of music used in prior songs. this doesn't end with rock/metal since they have songs in all genres including a lot of pop songs. you mentioned symphonic metal, yes they have that too ;) but vision to me is more industrial rock/metal mixed in with synthwave. because their discography is so diverse, there will be songs you like more than others or some you simply dislike but one thing about dremcatcher is you will never know what song you will hear next from them.

I still can't believe how underrated these girls are, particularly in Korea. They really are a full package. Also, when you talk about Nightwish, I always drew parallels with Lacuna Coil as well, such a great band. I think a lot of hard-rock/metal fans discover K-pop and vibe with it, so Dreamcatcher really bridge the two, and so it's not surprising that so many of their fans are international fans who grew up with that kind of music. I think the real magic in K-pop (in general, and Dreamcatcher specifically) comes from the lack of pretense, it's just about the product, and they don't need to carry on like "we're too cool for this shit" like a lot of western music has become.
One big thing I love about Twice is the fun and different B-sides (Espresso is my jam). As much as Dreamcatcher have that hard rock vibe, they are also super flexible, with all their B-sides super variable from dubstep (Silent Night) to jazz (Jazzbar), pop-punk (Wake Up) to Trance/Trap (In the Frozen).

The girl you asked about who did the pre-chorus in Bonvoyage is Jiu. She is the leader of the group and she did do the pre-chorus in vision. Her voice is often used in pre-choruses because of how soothing and sweet her voice is.
On storylines, I assume that since the Apocalypse trilogy is done we will get a stand alone title track next. They've done this for both previous storylines they've completed with Deja Vu coming out after the Nightmare series and BEcause after the Dystopia trilogy. They just re-signed their contracts in November so we should have a few more storylines coming from them in the future.
I'd recommend heading to the beginning if you want to really dig into their music. All the title tracks are great and they are constantly able to deliver their signature sound while changing up the style so it never feels stale.
Also, b-sides, seriously they're great. Various genres all excellently executed. If you want to hear a few then check out "Red Sun" and "And there was no one left". They both have special clips on their YT channel and will give you a small taste of some of the diversity they offer.

There is no wrong answer though, except not listening to more. I re-listen to their entire discography after each comeback, and I'm always shocked by how consistently awesome it is. They quite literally have no bad songs. Just to give you an idea "Maison" is actually one of my personal least favorite songs, which is saying something.

since you mentioned nightwish and symphonic metal, dreamcatcher actually have a japanese b-side track called 'don't light my fire' that quite a bit of insomnias have said reminded them of nightwish (for me, it reminded me of HIM) and very much is a symphonic metal song. their japanese tracks are more on the harder/metal side compared to their korean tracks, which touch just about every genre in their b-sides and stick to rock and similar genres for their title tracks.

When you said you enjoy a good pre-chorus I immediately thought about 'Deja Vu', probably one of the most beautiful and majestic pre-choruses I've heard, and one of my favourite Dreamcatcher songs, I highly recommend it. But as others mentioned if you want to deep dive into their music maybe you prefer to start from the beginning with 'Chase Me' to see how their sound has evolved since then.
And don't worry about not getting the meaning behind their series, trilogies or MVs, because even though most of them usually have a comprehensible general meaning, you'll see that the storylines are never 100% clear and they're open to interpretations and theories. Hi, I am glad you have enjoyed this trilogy. Here is the breakdown of their story arks:
They have three main story lines: Nightmare series, Dystopia trilogy and Apocalypse trilogy.
Nightmare series: This was their debut concept, within this each girl represents a nightmare (you can check out the corresponding nightmares on kprofiles) The story in nutshell is about 7 witches taken over by their evil psyche counterparts due to the curse of the spider, eventually turning them into nightmares hunted by nightmare hunters (analogy - ghost hunter) Their goal is breaking free of the nightmare, breaking the curse and reunite.
The order of the title tracks: (in order of release)
    Chase Me
    Good Night
Fly High (Prequel! to the story)
    You and I
    What
    Piri
+Breaking out (Alternate ending, Japanese title track)
So either the story line can be started with Fly High or one can follow the release order to see their musical evolution.

    • @CsLaci81
      @CsLaci81 Год назад +2

Dystopia Trilogy: This trilogy talks about Cyberbullying and the power of language and how it can hurt someone if used in a negative way. It portrays their attempt at facing the Dystopian reality that is hidden in the world of social media. The center of the story is the tree of language that is turning black due to negativism after the curse of the evil language was released (depicted as opening Pandora's box.) and the light provided by positive words fade out. The order of the title tracks is:
Scream (Hear no Evil) - happening in the Past - Fantasy vibes
Boca (Speak no Evil - Boca is the Spanish word for mouth) - Present timeline
Odd Eye (See no Evil) - Futuristic vibes
General guideline to dreamcatcher videos and lyrics: Do not try to take them literal, they go really hard on symbolism and their lyrics frequently have double meanings, sometimes even poetic. Bonvoyage is actually a love letter to Mother nature and giving nature a break so that it can heal itself yet the concept can be applied to a relationship. Also the videos in many cases do not tell the story in a linear manner, sometimes the 2nd half holds the key understanding what was going on. This makes it really hard to get the full picture on the first listen. I have seen BEcause at least 30 times, yet still I do find new details here and there.
They have a few title tracks not belonging to story arks:
Deja Vu and R.O.S.E. Blue are game collaborations. BEcause is their twisted idea of a love song talking about an obsessive toxic relationship based on the horror movie Us. It is the title track of a summer album.

Twice has a pair of songs that are supposed to go back-to-back. One has a Halloween theme (the song called 'TT') and the other is a Christmas theme (the song called 'Knock Knock'). So it does happen in other groups, maybe you just did not notice yet. That's okay. Those two songs were separated by a few months, easy to overlook things if you are only listening to the songs but not actually seeing the MVs.
It's just that DreamCatcher's debut kicked off the Nightmare Series which turned out to be a Seven-Title-Track storyline arc across multiple albums and mini-albums (the last MV is a Japanese release). The length of that single storyline eclipses other groups' multi-song themes.
Then they had two different storyline arcs in trilogies that are both separate from the Nightmare Series (but the songs and MVs have some small bits of throwback Easter eggs).
And of course there are all the stand-alone songs and the b-sides of all their albums. Some of the b-sides even have to do with little side-lines of the main story lines. For the Nightmare series, there is a song called 'Lullaby' that you might not even recognize as a DreamCatcher song if you did not already see the name. If you listen to it, it has nothing at all to do with Rock, it is literally a lullaby, a sad song that could put small children to sleep. But it actually does go with the Nightmare Series. Their b-sides are just as amazing as their title tracks! :)

and yeah, for hard hitting sound, JiU sounds like the least suitable. but she has talent, the company kept her and trust her, it's like the producers with high intelligency to put her where she at.
in Maison, JiU didn't get the prechorus bcs the tempo in verse already up and prechorus. but well she got the bridge which is the perfect place for her too beside prechorus.
in Vision, JiU got the main first half both 1st prechorus and 2nd prechorus, plus bridge.
in BonVoyage, she got the same thing in prechoruses, but instead of bridge she got the chanting outro chorus.
it seems already a template that breakdown in prechorus means JiU would be there (also breakdown in bridge like we can see in Maison).

I'll just be honest, sometimes I really like the contrast in sound between instrumentation/melody and the vocals placed over top of it. If you've ever heard Ghost Love Score by Nightwish and how it starts out, those are some soft, beautiful vocals put in on a hard melody during the first 2 choruses before the overall sound of the song picks up. So even in that case, I don't mind the contrast. I'll be getting back to them pretty soon, I've got 4 or 5 groups that I'll be jumping back into in the next couple weeks.
