Today we are in Louisville, Kentucky visiting the grave of Muhammad Ali and haveing a Muhammad Ali Graveyard Picni, at Cave Hill Cemetery and Arboretum. You know we love visiting famous graves! Muhammad Ali was an American professional boxer and activist. Nicknamed "the Greatest", he is regarded as one of the most significant sports figures of the 20th century and is often regarded as the greatest heavyweight boxer of all time. He held the Ring magazine heavyweight title from 1964 to 1970. Muhammad Ali was born Cassius Clay and was raised in Louisville, Kentucky. So its fitting that his final resting place would be in Cave Hill Cemetery in his hometown. Muhammad Ali memorial and grave is on a hill overlooking a pond, facing east in honor of his Islamic faith. Now this is a graveyard picnic, and we were lucky enough to find a Cookbook called, "A Recipe to End Hunger". This is a cookbook where notable Louisville resterants, hotels and residents share recipes in order to help feed children with the proceeds from the cookbook. Muhammad Ali's wife, Lonnie Ali contributed a recipe that she use to make for Muhammad and their family.
Lonnie Ali's Quick & Easy Pulled BBQ Chicken
The wife of Muhammad Ali contributed this recipe when asked by Dawne Gee for one of the boxer's favorites.
1 medium Vidalia or sweet onion, peeled and sliced thin
1 cooked rotisserie chicken, skinned and deboned
1 large bottle of sweet honey BBQ sauce
Place onion slices on the bottom of a slow cooker or ceramic crock pot. Take deboned chicken and pull into shreds. Place chicken in crock pot on top of onion slices. Pour BBQ sauce over chicken and spread evenly. Place top on crock pot and turn heating dial on low or set timer to 2 to 4 hours.
During cooking period, remove top and mix BBQ sauce thoroughly through the chicken. Once heated, serve on soft, whole wheat hamburger buns. Complete meal with a side of coleslaw, fresh corn or green salad.
Note: If you don't have a crockpot, place ingredients into a heavy, oven-proof pan with a tight lid. Place in oven at 300 degrees for 2 to 3 hours.
So this was our recipe for our Graveyard Picnic. It was simple to through together, healthy and easy. It may even make it into our meal rotation at home.
Muhammad Ali's Grave and Memoral suprised us, because lets not forget this is a graveyard picnic and essentially he had a recipe on his memorial. Ali's memorial reads....
“He took a few cups of love, he took one tablespoon of patience, one teaspoon of generosity, one pint of kindness. He took one quart of laughter, one pinch of concern, and then he mixed willingness with happiness, he added lots of faith and he stirred it up well. Then he spread it over a span of a lifetime and he served to each and every person he met.”
This is not our first time at Cave Hill Cemetery and Arboretum in Louisville, Kentucky. We were here once with our kids to visit the grave of Colonel Harland Sanders the founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken or KFC
Gravesite of Colonel Harland Sanders, founder of the worldwide Kentucky Fried Chicken later renamed KFC restaurant chain, at Cave Hill Cemetery, overlooking Louisville, Kentucky, and the Ohio River.
Cave Hill Cemetery is a 296-acre Victorian era National Cemetery and arboretum located at Louisville, Kentucky. Its main entrance is on Baxter Avenue and there is a secondary one on Grinstead Drive. It is the largest cemetery by area and number of burials in Louisville. It is worth a visit even if you aren't planning your own Graveyard Picnic.

I am so mad I missed out on seeing Ali’s gravesite. We did see Colonel Sanders. So sad I didn’t know it was the same place. Ali is a GOAT for sure. I did see him when I was in law school when I saw Laila fight!

I hate when that happens! I went to Martha’s Vineyard about 9 years ago. As soon as I got back home , I learned John Belushi is buried there. Ugh!!!!!
