Music video by Angela Gheorghiu, Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Sir Georg Solti performing "Sempre libera". (C) 1995 Decca Music Group Limited

Thank you, Angela, now I'm 15 and the next year I start to study as a soprano. I hope to enter in the Conservatory (I live in Milan and the Conservatory of Milan is very important in the world!!)

@@scotty6124 All I listen to is opera, have many recordings spanning the breadth of the genre and can tell you that the music is often times the only thing saving these creations. The plots, characters and settings were often the popular garbage of their times and suffered all the usual shortcomings of popular media. Impossible to"confirm" this from a performance back in 1994, unless there is some written or recorded conversation or interview by the costume designer. What a treat. Her physical beauty can almost rival her vocal beauty. To me, the looks of a singer is secondary to his voice. But when a singer is so beautiful, I just have to say God is too kind to have given us someone like this.
where was the desperation hidden? hard to see... The score is written without E- flat at the end. The value of an artist is not given by a note. Ms Gheorghiu is not applying for the Guinness Records Book, or not in this sense. As far as I noticed, Ms Gheorghiu planned so far her career quite well, and she is the leading World opera singer without E flat in this particular piece. Read others comments and learn to listen to classical music. Appreciate it; it's not Olympic Games
Shes really good. Not the best, but really good. I just wish she was less of a... how can I put it nicely?... a cow. Being talented does not give you the right to treat others like shit. Humility and good manners (or lack of it in Angela's case) may not show on stage but they do help others to like you.
Miss Ghieorghiu’s bell ringing quality can be dauntingly seduces my soft spot to my beloved Maria Callas. Her instrument may be just perfect in Puccini ‘ La Bohemia ‘ to highlight Mimi’s vulnerable but delicate character no soul can resist.
(eye roll) Thanks Madam Librarian! I think we ALL know by now that Verdi never wrote that E-flat but one can't deny it has become an unofficial tradition; one looked for by many ardent opera fans. Unnecessary? Certainly, but so was that scrumptious chocolate ice cream sundae I had yesterday with dinner. The irony is clearly lost on Verdi "scholars" who scold "show-off divas" -- the inclusion of that note is fun, thrilling and ... DEFIANT! -- the very essence of Sempre Libera.
Love how you added an (eye roll) to the beginning of your reply. Helped give your reply a bitchy Diva old opera queen feel to it. You simply must've gotten offended over the original poster's Diva comment! haha You sir/madam are no diva! :P In relation to the e flat I dont mind it but only when its done well though!
@truvianni Oh yes! he is a fantastic performer! Plus, I love tenor voices with a dark, rich timbres such as his and Kaufmann's. Also he is the tenor who has played the most roles! And that is certainly astonishing. I don't know much about him off-stage though, but I have never heard complaints from people who have worked with him. I also don't have many recordings of him but I have a CD of The Tales of Hoffman excerpts he recorded with Joan Sutherland that is amongst my top 5 CDs of all times.
Exactly. The interpolated E flat in 'Sempre libera' doesn't make dramatic sense, because as you noted, she doesn't feel any real, inner joy at this point. The note simply gives audiences a 'visceral' thrill, like you said, but it's out of context when you examine the character's true feelings at that point in the story. I think the only situation in which a soprano could add the note is in a CONCERT, where the aria could be performed as a 'stand-alone piece', outside the confines of the story.

Where's the E-flat?
Frumoasã.Misterioasã.Superbã🇦🇩🌹🥀🌼 Love.Respect.

Sempre libera degg´io
folleggiare di gioia in gioia,
vo´che scorra il viver mio
pei sentieri del piacer.
Nasca il giorno, o il giorno muoia,
sempre lieta ne´ ritrovi,
a diletti sempre nuovi
dee volare il mio pensier
[Alfredo:]
Amor è palpito
dell´universo intero,
misterioso, altero,
croce e delizia al cor.
[Violetta:]
Oh!
Oh! Amore!
Follie!
Gioir!
Sempre libera degg´io, ecc...
Bravo bravo she got the energy and voice and everything she is perfect for this role 🥰
What a treat. Her physical beauty can almost rival her vocal beauty. To me, the looks of a singer is secondary to his voice. But when a singer is so beautiful, I just have to say God is too kind to have given us someone like this.
Say hi to my grandpa Benedict Gheorghiu. Heavenly loves.
where was the desperation hidden? hard to see...
Appreciate it; it's not Olympic Games
simplesmente lindo
A fine performance of a classic aria by one of today's great singers!
1:34 Folie!
Astonishing! I always liked her but i never thought that she is this good! Brava!
so high and beautiful
She’s good, but after listening to Joan Sutherland, I just can’t listen to any other version. 😂❤️
Same here.
Shes really good. Not the best, but really good. I just wish she was less of a... how can I put it nicely?... a cow. Being talented does not give you the right to treat others like shit. Humility and good manners (or lack of it in Angela's case) may not show on stage but they do help others to like you.
I think Gheorghiu is what Netrebko wants to be...
:P In relation to the e flat I dont mind it but only when its done well though!
ciao vale bosi credi sempre in te stessa e insegui i tuoi sogni🤍💜
AHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA
Wow..like Sir Georg Solti said...she can do anything
@truvianni Oh yes! he is a fantastic performer! Plus, I love tenor voices with a dark, rich timbres such as his and Kaufmann's. Also he is the tenor who has played the most roles! And that is certainly astonishing. I don't know much about him off-stage though, but I have never heard complaints from people who have worked with him. I also don't have many recordings of him but I have a CD of The Tales of Hoffman excerpts he recorded with Joan Sutherland that is amongst my top 5 CDs of all times.
Eflat not written. She sang it the way it is composed. High note is normally interpolated...which I like but Angela is smart not to with her voice.
Incredible, I wish I could sing like this :)
Why is this entitled this way? This isn't Anna Moffo!
She was gorgeous (and her voice was excellent as well, of course).
THE best Violetta hands down nowadays!
My favourite Violetta of all time. Brava Angela.
thank you, super
Bella! Brava!
ALL true... (still... it is rather WONDERFUL when pulled off by the right soprano... just saying!)
Lol
Muti fan?
Such an inspiration, it looks so easy
Bella RUDENKO - Follie!.. Sempre Libera - La Traviata @
