That is a great idea with the net material to suspend your bait inside your minnow trap. I came up with the same idea about 9 years back and it's very effective.
I try same routine, except i use sandwich bread,,packed in plastic wster bottle,,i believe im going to try your bait recipe, if you dont mind,,thank you for sharing your ideal, jim, east tenn
I'll simplify this even further. No bag, everything else yes. A hamburger bun and about 30 minutes to an hour in the water. NEVER leave it overnight BC 90% will leave the trap
There are cheaper bait options that are just as effective. If you own dogs or a friend or neighbor dog food works great or remove the crust from bread and squeeze it in your hand as hard as you can and compress it tight aka dough balls. Also that clip is not right and you'd catch more chubs if you only leave the trap an hour or two.

that's not how you use those clips to keep the trap shut
You guys are using the clip wrong. Look up how the clip is supposed to look and bend yours back to that form

You are using the clip wrong that comes with the trap . Thats why its coming open.
you don't open the clip up that far that's why its not working right for you its not a safety pin
I know a creek that is loaded with all kinds of fish and huge creek chubs here in IA
Most of the creeks are loaded
