Hey there, I just came across your channel whilst looking for blue headed macaw videos.
I have one, I’m not sure what sex, but I think male, he’s two years old and I have had him year now, and he’s the first second hand bird I’ve bought, as I prefer getting them young and without bad habits.
I’m with you on not clipping wings, and he loves flying and makes full use of the sitting room to get some exercise.
Temperament wise, he’s sweet, though a bit nippy, though the hahns macaw I had was pretty similar in regards to nippy. No hard bites from him though, and what I find really surprising is how full of beans he is, and gets into everything he can, so I need to be careful as he could be quite destructive if not watched constantly. Tony Silva in his macaws book states they are not that active as a species, but I strongly disagree! He is the most active parrot I’ve come across, and literally doesn’t sit still when out of his cage, and I let him out daily to fly and explore.
Noise wise, he’s not bad, certainly not in comparison to large macaws, and no where near as piercing as a hahns macaw, but having said that, I did move him into another room that has two of my other birds, as my house is open plan, and his shouting was a distraction when I had guests.
I haven’t looked to see if you have uploaded any other videos, or if you have the bird yet, but I look forward to hearing how you get on with it.
Don’t worry about how you come across on camera, you sound great, and I don’t think anyone likes the sound of their own voice to be honest.
Hope it all goes well with your new companion.
