    Which add-ons are your favourite?😅

      I really like Vs Code, but I don't run it on my pi, but rather on my PC, with the Home Assistant extension installed and access the files via the Samba share. This means VScode runs really fast, and I can use the CTRL-Shift P option to quickly check my config or restart elements of Home Assistant (there was a good video on using vscode with HA during the conference). I also have Bookstack which is a great place to store all sorts of documents. I configuration notes, plus recipes and other items.

      Haven't heard of Bookstack yet, will check it out, thanks!

      my fav add-on is esphome where tons of document to integrate very cheap wemos or nodemcu virtually to any device. However, i found very hard to manually tweak the config especially when it involve lamda. Probably you could make a video on this subject. i have tried to read data from mega that flash with rflink where it decode most of 433mhz devices. i used nodemcu that used esphome custom uart text sensor for HA to received data. after spending few days i still unable to make it work. last night, i manage to send the data to HA using mqtt and arduino ide.

    Creating your own style dashboards would be something worth of going. I see people messing around with separate cards but not that lot of grid cards. You can build a pretty impressive menu with those.

    Love your videos! I've learned more from your channel than any other lately since I've gone down the HA rabbit hole. LOL Started messing with it a week ago, and just realized I need to go grocery shopping! Looking forward to more videos!

    This is great and I think those are the 4 that every beginner needs for sure.

    Portainer is a must-have for me. There you find all the logs in one place and you can open a console into any docker container.
    Can't see why one would use the ssh addon when sshd can be installed on the system level and be hardened by disabling password login and using cryptographic key login only.
    Samba is useful for Windows users but Linux users might be better served with rsync (via ssh).

      By your logic, I cant see why one would install the portainer add-on when one can get the logs from the terminal all in one place, and open a console into any docker container.
      SSH isn't open or installed by default on Home Assistant OS (the most popular install type) hence why the add-on exists. You can also use SSH keys on the add-on.

      @@EverythingSmartHome A portainer browser window is just more convenient, don't have to remember and type the docker commands.
      Didn't know about ssh on HAOS.

    Hey - Love your videos too... Please kindly help me as I have trawled through the web to get AddOns on my installation. Installing HA on ZimaBoard - installed 2023.2 with no Addons! Help what do I do to get it?

    Could you do a video explaining how to install some add-on in docker based HA (without Supervisor)?
    I know it can be done and I have file editor installed for example, but I'm missing something because I didn't get the interface integration but a separate address in the browser instead.
    Thanks for all your videos, I always get some ideas.

    some questions:
    1. If using HA vm in proxmox, is it nessassery to use SSH&terminal if i already can use console in proxmox?
    2. How to view png file in vscode?

    • @EverythingSmartHome
      @EverythingSmartHome  3 года назад +1

      Will add it to the list!
      No, as long as you have some way of accessing the terminal. Hmm not sure on the second one, mine opens them fine!

    Snapshot add on can stop mariadb database during backup? As i remember you mentioned before, for snapshot, you have to stop maria db for temp.

    Excellent guides!! It would be great to have a video of how to organize/create lovelace interface. I used to have Vera with imperihome on a tablet and used it a general controller on house entrance. Anything like this with HS?

    • @EverythingSmartHome
      @EverythingSmartHome  3 года назад +2

      Thanks! I would love to, the problem is its difficult to suggest how to organize a layout since everyone has access to different devices and also it's subjective. But have wanted to do something for a while!

      @@EverythingSmartHome more than giving a definite layout, just teach us how to do it, and difference between options. Is there a way to put it in a tablet? I read something about WallPanel and material designs.

    question, which hardware are you running this all on, particular as you have lots of addons, im think if i should offload some of these addons on a docker containers via my synology or if im ok to run this all on a powerful thin client machine with a j4125 cpu. let me know your thoughts thanks again for the helpful videos

    Hi there! have you used the motioneye addon for security cameras? or what are the best features of Frigate?

  • @antds857
    @antds857 3 года назад

    Nice video! Out of a security concern, I do not leave samba/ssh open (just trying to reduce the attack vector) . With daily backups, I should get back up pretty quickly if things would break.
    Edit: i just start up ssh add-on when I need it, but I do not leave it on autostart.

  • @mrxmry3264

    erm, hang on! is frigate a home assistant plugin or is it a stand-alone piece of software? if it's a plugin, i have to run home assistant on the same computer that does the video recording.

    What do you like to use for automations in place of Node-RED?
