      Not really tbh. Are plenty of very reputable western brands and other countries that’s innovative. I guess the difference is that k-beauty skincare is less expensive in Korea due to its massive domestic market. One thing I didn’t like about cheap Korean skincare when I lived in Seoul is that many contained so much fragrance and therefore irritated my skin, so I usually ended up going to Olive Young to buy Avène or La Roche Posay either way.

      @Trinity M What? You're making this about race. I don’t. I have invested so much time in skin care, know the science and have done so for many years. This has nothing to do with me being anti-Korea or anything. I'm just writing facts. Facts don’t care about feelings. So stop that "woke” nonsense. I mean, you can find dermatologists talking about this. New trends that are common in Korean society does not necessarily mean that they are better. Especially if they don’t have the research to back it up. And no, Avène and La Roche Posay have lots of fragrance-free skin care products that are made for sensitive skin. They are big brands, have been around for a long time, have their own labs and resources for doing research. These brands are usually more forward with innovations, just like Korean brands with their own labs and resources. I personally struggled to find gentle Korean skin care products that were not too expensive at Olive Young. My friends thought the same. But it could also be because I have a different ethnicity that may have a slightly different skin. Like Korean sunscreens are drier because the climate is humid, while sunscreens in Europe are heavier with humectants and emollients because the air is drier. I guess the average European also have thinner skin than the average Asian.
      No, I have no problem with Korean. You make assumptions about me. I can speak Korean and lived there for 3 years.
      Olive young has many brands from other countries unless they’ve changed everything since I moved back to Europe in 2019.
      The United States is behind in terms of sunscreen ingredients because the FDA is slow at approving new ones. In the EU and parts of Asia, they are faster so we can see more ingredients and innovation in their SPF.
      The brands I usually bought at olive young was La Roche Posay, Avéne and Hada Labo (Japanese brand). I occasionally tried a Korean brand I read about. Cheaper and popular brands like Etude house, Innisfree, Skinfood, Missha etc, however, were a big no for me. Their products almost always had heavy fragrance or some unnecessary essential oil and nothing special in terms of ingredients. For those with rosacea or sensitive skin, it’s not good. I was fine with Cosrx though.
      What I could give Korean skincare credit for is that they popularized more textures in skin care. Like oil cleanser that turns into milk in water, foam cleansers, sheet masks, etc. That being said, it does not mean that skin care when it comes to ingredients are any better or more innovative than let’s say European brands. And ingredients is what matters the most at the end of the day.

      @Trinity M most of the new filters have come out of Europe. The 2 newest ones are owned by la roche posay and avene. I'm talking about triasorb sbd uvmune 400. These are the best sunscreens in the entire world because no other filters protect thar well in for long uva and hev. These French pharmacy brands don't actually use that much fragrance. Most of their products are fragrance free or very lightly scented.

      TIP: most *chemical* korean sunscreens are amazing, don't give you a white cast, offer suuuper high spf, and go on like a lightweight moisturizer. so if you can't find the toboco one, any other chemical korean suncreen one will prob do. Some faves in the k-beauty scene are: Round Lab Birch Juice Sunscreen, Beauty of Joseon Sunscreen, Isntree Hyaluronic Sunscreen, and COSRX Sunscreen.
      PS: physical (mineral) sunscreens, whether it's western or asian, will usually give you a whitecast so beware if thats smth you dont want!! In my experience, korean physical sunscreens are still leagues above their western counterparts tho lol

  • @wren7465
    @wren7465 2 года назад +2

    In terms of protection, I'd recommend getting an Australian sunscreen or a sunscreen rated 50+ spf and broad spectrum in Australia because our sunscreen regulations are a lot stricter than in countries such as Korea or America. It doesn't smell great or anything but Neutrogena Ultra Sheer is pretty good, though you do have to rub it in quite a bit to get rid of the white cast

    • @wren7465
      @wren7465 2 года назад

      @Trinity M i recommended a good sunscreen rated spf 50+ and broad-spectrum in Australia which is what I said. Zinc works well, which is why its used and the new filters are often not as thorough and effective. The testing standards in Australia are far higher and stricter than most countries is my point, so to be labeled as spf50 here the sunscreen really has to be spf 50 and everything has to be broad-spectrum. I really don't get what your saying about under applying because the amount you should apply is about skin area not colour, and not even Caucasian people are actually white so the inclusivity argument is strange. What you've said about the labeling stuff isn't really true, while it is about what can be labeled what, the point in that is that only the ones that have passed strict testing procedures, which Korea does not legally require, can be labeled each spf rating unlike in other countries where the testing is more lax or non existent legally.

    This comes to all skin care products and sunscreen. You can't really say and claim that a product is Good and effective just because you like its texture, the way it feels, it's scent and the way it looks. If your skincare products doesn't work for you, for example it doesnt really do what it's supposed to do. Or your Sunscreen is causing you more breakouts. Then it's not the products problem, ITS YOU. Know your skin care type, do your research on skin care ingridients, study what skin ingredients is best for your skin types and how they work, check the ingridient list of the product to know whether it's good or not before buying them and not get carried away by its packaging because its promising, and also not get carried away by its claims just because it promises you better skin. This will save you more money because you actually know what you're doing, rather than complaining that the products you're using are not working.

    Need some help! I’m trying to find a good stick sunscreen that’s mineral/non-toxic and reef safe that isn’t the size of a deodorant like the one here :( it seems like they all are (edit: I’m also extremely sensitive to scented products). I want to fit it in my purse without it weighing me down more than I already am. I recently tried the Supergloop! one and ABSOLUTELY do not get it. It was great: I wasn’t burnt at all, it wasn’t greasy, application was easy, it was TSA safe (didn’t have to be in the quart sized bag), and very compact... but it has ingredients not listed on their website or anywhere it’s sold. I, and many others, had an allergic reaction. Broke out in a painful, itchy rash and I’m still waiting for it to go away. Taking Benadryl to keep it from spreading the last day of my trip sucked because I was even falling asleep swimming and eating. Absolutely not worth paying $25 just to end up with bodily harm, definitely going to try to get a refund through Amazon.

    Is it good for sensitive acne prone skin? I literally can’t use sunscreen because it literally clogs my pores and makes me break out😩

    • @angelgrace555
      @angelgrace555 2 года назад +3

      I guess yes, since she ever said that her skin breakout easily.
      And if you want to search for product that are suitable for acne prone skin, try searching for products thats labeled as non-comedogenic and doesn't contain alcohol and shea butter, bcs my skin is also acne prone and oily dehydrated, and when i use products that contain those ingredients, next day my skin had the hugest breakout ever (don't forget to use salicylic acid, bcs salicylic acid is good for acne and clogged pores)

    Wear are you buying this? I dont trust places like amazon and Ebay bc I have a friend who works for amazon to track and stop fraud and she says to never buy makeup or beauty products for your skin on there as the section is easily over 50% fake and their department is way too understaffed to catch 99.9% of it especially as soon as a seller is shut down they can just open another storefront immediately and usually have several dozen to hundreds storefronts already. Plus Amazon doesn't have much incentive to look to deeply into the practice as they can't be held liable in court unless it's a amazon branded product soooooo yeah, be careful out there
