Greaat fun! For touring I love the Yorkshire Dales Swaledale and Wensleydale. Cos I am old I remember an ex racer and Harley dealer called Paul I think, cant remember his surname just now, but he challenged any non registered racer to beat him round a circuit on any road bike, him on a Harley. He was prepared to GIVE his bike to anyone faster. Nobody did him to my knowledge.

When you go out for your touring ride, it’s nice to start Friday mid day, arrive at inexpensive motel prior to dark, don’t plan ahead, walking distance to food and pub is great. Your routes should just be back road twisties. Wake up early Saturday and ride all day and find a room prior to dark. Now you’re getting dialed in and Sunday morning head towards home. Big groups, not so much. Have fun!

I've done enough track-days to know that the rider makes much more of a difference than the make, model or size of the bike when it comes to lap-time. Obviously, if you combine a "good bike" with a "good rider", you get the best of both worlds, so a good rider on a 1000 cc Superstock bike will have a better lap-time than the same rider on a 400. But the good rider on a 400 will beat me on the same track - in fact, a friend (racer I support) did a 2m10 on a 400 around Snetterton last year. My best lap-time on a modern 1000cc sportk-bike with about 4x the power is 2m16..
Any bike, any rider, any track: as long as you're having fun. And even being many seconds slower than the proper fast riders, I enjoy being on track - it's a good feeling being able to get on the gas hard out of a corner, and not have to worry about cops, oncoming traffic, tractors/horses/etc around the corner, etc.

Bikes, and people, are so much bigger now. My ‘73 Triumph 750 looks like a CT70 next to that thing.
I have been run over by my own bike a few times, and I am very thankful it only weighed 220lbs. The last time it happened I hit a rock break with the foot peg bracket on the frame doing about 50mph. I hit the deck so hard I had to replace my helmet. I bounced off the ground three times. I was laying there for a while and then a bike landed on top of me, and I thought who the hell couldn’t see me laying here? It was own bike, KTM200EXC, upside down on top of me, idling in 4th gear with the chain snatching right over my head. I had just shifted down when I hit the rock break hidden in the grass. Thank God for Arai Helmets, and spectators. They said it was about 16’ in the air flipping end over end before it landed on me.
When you tuck the front on a big thing like that Triumph, you are sometimes better off hanging on to it and using it to absorb the impact. Try not to be in front of it heading towards something hard. The only real way to know for sure what is best is practice 😊.

lol Lee, you're talking about tires at the end 🤣🤣
99.99% of beginners will not be getting anywhere close to the saturation of grip of the tires, such that they're a limiting factor.
if you, dear reader, are on the fence about trackdays, just go and do it! seriously
the top thing you need to be mindful of is not to try and push beyond your limits, take it slow and progress gradually.
I did my first trackday on at Mettet in Belgium on a rainy day a few months back, and I was the first on the pack, following the instructor. On the second lap the instructor started to pick up the pace, and I tried to keep up with him: I almost crashed. My front-end slipped at ~60kph, not too bad, I managed to put my foot on the ground and re-gain traction.
I did my second trackday at SPA in belgium, and I made the same mistake, tried to follow some random guy, went into a corner much faster than I'm confortable with, and had a visit to the gravel (I didn't fall, but I went off-track)
conclusion: don't push yourself on the first few times you go to the track. I was lucky, but maybe you learn from my mistakes. Take it slow, try things out, and slowly you'll get the hang out of it.
Mind you: I got my motorcycle driver's license this year (2024), after attending IOM TT on 2022, I was hooked on bikes and had to start riding. The only reason I bought a bike was because I saw what you guys @Lee do on the TT!!!!
I did my first trackday only after 45 days after I took my license (although I'm 34yo, and had quite experience with trackdays on cars), and my second trakday at SPA after about 3 months of riding experience.
I saw a lot of people crash in both trackdays on the beginner's group - I don't want to lure you and say it is not dangerous, but all the guys crashed on their own, because they went above their limits. It is VERY rare to crash on trackday because of someone else. I've been to about 20 trackdays on car, and never I saw a crash between two cars, or because of another driver. People normally crash on their own on trackday. BUT That's the thing!!! There's no pressure on a trackday, other than the pressure you put on youself. Everyone's respectfull. No one wants to crash into you, they just want to arrive home safely at the end. If there's someone faster than you at the track, I bet the guy doesn't want to crash his 20k+ bike into you, so they will give you space, and pass you safely.
The only thing you need to worry about is your mindset. Don't rush, don't take unnecessary risks, don't brake late or take a bend at speed if you are not 100% sure of it, progress slowly and you will have the best time of your life!!!!

It feels a little odd to comment, because I'm not a motorcycle guy, I like 4 wheels. I still enjoy bike videos, occasional MotoGP, fascinated by the IOMTT, NW200, etc. (the sheer BALLS of you guys! respect!... although you're all fucking nuts!). But this is amazing. I mean, you said you're about 5'5", granted, you're not a tall man, but, still. When you unloaded and were walking around the thing, if not for the facial hair it would have looked like a kid walking around it. This thing is like watching a cartoon. It's ENORMOUS. I mean, one of the best parts is the scene with the other guys in the garage taking turns climbing on... even the relatively taller guys straddling the thing on tippy-toes. Just comical. I can imagine the other serious riders passing you out there and just trying to not fall off laughing. Points for making the point about people being able to do a track day with a less than ideal bike, but... I still don't get why this thing even exists. For the type of bike it seems to be (like you might take on some adventure in the countryside or something?), why would somebody want something this GIGANTIC? It's just a crazy beast.

Come up and do a bit of the NC500 Lee. Hit me up and I’ll show you around our playground 😉. Might even see if we can coax old Donald MacFadyen out onto the roads.

Might be a good idea to be rid of that van

Nice vid, Lee. Why not catch the ferry and take it around the Island circuit?

A Sit Up & Beg riding position didn't do Graeme Crosby's career any harm 😂

Get yourself on the ferry to the isle of man for a couple of days. MGP soon anyway and you can film yourself doing more than 70 without worrying about the Fuzz watching 😂

Don't go on any public road which is recommended by bikers online. If you can read it so can plod, they're not stupid, they monitor biker sites to see where people are riding and pick up the low hanging fruit - easy money in fines and meets their conviction targets. If a route is popular with bikers it's guaranteed to be popular with unmarked plod.
