- Asian Americans are suing Harvard for illegally discriminating against them.
The lawsuit forced Harvard to release admissions data which reveal that admitted Asian applicants score 22 points higher on the SAT than whites and 63 points higher than blacks.

Harvard admits to using race as a factor in admissions for the sake of diversity. But the school says it does so without any hard quotas or race-based points system -- that they merely consider it informally. Past Supreme Courts have allowed that.
But the Asians suing Harvard argue that the university gives them artificially low personality ratings to keep their admissions rate down, describing Asian Americans as " boring little grade grubbers."

"race conscious assistance"
Basically, he's saying Harvard have to be racist to make up for racism.
See also the late great George Carlin's monologue on Shell Shock -> Battle Fatigue -> Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
But is it really “to make up for racism”?
There’s an underlying assumption in that which would first have to be established as fact.
Let's level the NFL, NBA playing field, eh ?
The question we need to smack them with is: HOW? None of their arguments hold up to scrutiny. We need to draw them into these arguments and demand HARD evidence of systemic oppression. They've advanced this so far because we're not putting the burden of proof on them. They'll cite statistics about demographics in schools or prisons, and they just throw that out as if it's implied proof of discrimination. It's past time to demand that they prove their case. They never have.
It's ok when they do it.

That is an interesting metaphor. If one levels the playing field, then everyone starts on equal ground. What Harvard is trying to do is level the finish line buy handicapping the lower performers. Much like golf.
Just because a person with less skills finishes 1 competition equally, doesn’t mean that that person is 1) equal in that event and 2) that that person will be equal in the future.
Is it that these people can’t see that or do they simply ignore reality?
Saying “leveling the playing field” sounded to me like he was saying blacks and hispanics aren’t as smart as whites and asians so they need assistance.
That's exactly what he was saying. It's not true, but it is lowering expectations as though it were true.
That's only because it's the position of people in favor of affirmative action.
It does sound suspiciously like that. It is almost like the liberals and democrats have ALWAYS been the actual racists.
All of this speaking up for minorities is so insulting to those minorities. Let them speak for themselves.
They do, but that doesn't mean they should get it.
Imagine going to a surgeon who complete his course thanks to affirmative action. They make a tiny mistake, less than the ~6% score disparity - and a week later you go into ER from internal bleeding and infection.
Imagine having a rocket engineer like that. They make a tiny mistake, off by 0,5% on some calculation - and that's several dead astronauts and millions of dollars gone.
"The right path out, of the history of discrimination against individuals based on race; is not more discrimination based on race"
That one really resonated with me.
Two things that really make the historic discrimination argument fall apart are Chinese immigrants were discriminated against in the US for centuries and the Japanese internment camps during WWII. How are neither of those justification to lower standards for Asians when there are people alive today who were forced into those interment camps?
Because it was a Democrat president who threw them in camps and they can’t openly acknowledge that.
Because that's nothing compared to the black americans who were sold and didn't went willingly to the US.

Every Chinese parent in mainline China wants his or her son or daughter to attend an American university and a good one at that. There are three times as many actual Chinese parents than Americans, and they are known to buy essays and test scores (with success). What country are you from?
Here are three arguments against affirmative action, and why we are infinitely better when we are a society that looks at people as individuals instead of members of groups.
1. It is racist to all individuals involved.
2. It does not address the root cause of why the unequal outcome exists without affirmative action.
3. You are setting up people benefitting from affirmative action for possible failure inside and outside of the academy.

It's very easy to work harder when you live in a two parent home, in a nice neighborhood, surrounded by peers that are also motivated by higher education, et cetera. If someone comes from "the hood" and manages to apply at Harvard despite their upbringing, I think that deserves to play some role in the selection process.
@@Rosenzweigjcb so all black people are from the hood and aren't motivated by higher education? and there are no white people that grew up in single family households or in the hood? That's why these things should be based on individual merit, not race.
@@Rosenzweigjcb I understand what you mean but I disagree, I live in Costa Rica, my country's best universities dont care about your race nor your upbringing, only your score, students work hard for this score, some come from poor families and study hard while also keeping a job, you know what? They succeed, why? Because they know that being accepted is a great chance to succeed, to get their mom and siblings out of a poor or dangerous neighborhood, also you basically didnt mention race, you talked about "apartments" and having two parents, which I still disagree with but even if I didnt ¿who's to say an Asian kid doesnt live with a single mom struggling to give him a good life? ¿Or that a black kid lives on a nice home with two loving and wealthy parents? ¿Should we assume their family situation based on their race? ¿Or make a study and give advantages to those kids with a dificult upbringing? However, I worked my ass off and scored 2280 on the SAT in 2015. Didn't get into Harvard or any of the other Ivies. A few of my black/latino friends who scored barely over a 1800 got into elite schools. My white friends who had connections found themselves in prestigious places. Harvard is a relic of a bygone age. Send your kid to a trade school so they can make six figures by the time they're 25.
And break their back by the time their 40. Plus you have to "pay your dues" before you can earn 6 figures, if you ever do. Most people earning 6 figures in the trades own their own business and might even hire other contractors to help do work. I appreciate deviations from traditionally sponsored career choices but let's not act like the trades are all roses and daisies either.
One thing that COVID has uncovered via lockdowns / stay at home, is that many jobs can be performed remotely. I would not be the least bit surprised if the companies, with workforces that are now working remotely, start to send those jobs to remote workers in other countries where wages are a fraction of wages in the USA. When that begins to happen, the trades, where the worker has to physically be present locally, will start to be the jobs that people will train for. There will still be many university educated workers using their education in the USA (doctors and dentists for example), and those will be jobs that require the worker to also physically be present locally.
Trades * lol more like slaves. Trades are ass

Ahh yes. "We where racist in the past, so we need to be racist now." Makes total sense
I recently saw a video where someone interviewed college students and asked if there should be diversity in college classes and should colleges admit students based on their ethnicity to maintain diversity on the campus. All the college students said, “yes”. Then the students were asked if college football teams should have diversity and people be put on the team to achieve diversity, and they all said “no”, it should be based on merit and ability.
They were hard-pressed to rationalize why ability, rather than diversity, shouldn’t be applied to college admission and jobs when they only wanted ability to decide who made the football team.
I can answer. Entitlement. They all think they are entitled to success in life, to good jobs, happy marriages, kids, etc. They don't see themselves as entitled to be NFL quarterbacks though. So they can't possibly rationalize the fact that some of them might not deserve their stupid degree.
That is a great example. Part of it is the students know the consequences of handling the football team that way would be clear, more losses. The consequences of affirmative action are hidden, so they can virtue signal and ignore it. It doesn't even matter that there is data suggesting placing black students into higher level colleges than they have prepared for increases their drop out rates and rate of swapping to easier majors.

College is a joke... trust me I did it. Better off learning how to be an electrician for 4 years and starting your own company with the money you saved
Same here in Australia, the government is obsessed with pushing every school leaver into University or a "white collar" qualification, where mechanics, truck drivers, electricians, concrete workers are making dough like bandits. I did Uni in the late 80's and had a good career, if I was starting out now , HV electrician, AC tech, Heavy diesel mechanic - also hard to replace these jobs with robots.
Anybody think maybe we’ve been overthinking this whole race thing? The atmosphere wasn’t this tense in the 90-00s. Usually people are pretty cool.
Over educated people overthinking things looking for a purpose in life. Did u hear now portraying villains on tv with face scars/deformities marginalizes people with facial scars/deformities.
I agree, you should throw in the 80's too. The thing is we already went through this racism things in the 60's and 70's. Everything was fine after that. Nobody judged anyone on skin color. Until now. It's bs.
It's all political. There is a particular party that is pushing this agenda.
We were THIS close to having a colorblind society, but then the race hustlers started making shit up again.
@@nerdicusdorkum2923 Exactly, and it's the same with all of the feminist and gay dogma as well.
I love how asians are so calm when talking about the racism they face.
😅 I used to get really worked up about it but then I watched Harold and Kumar (yes, that stoner movie) and that one scene where the guy explained why he's calm about all the crap really settled it for me.
Conservative asians are calm about it.
Liberal activist asians, like the baizuos, are unfortunately very obnoxious when it comes to social justice bs and won't shut up about it.
It's more of an ideological issue.
It's because they know "Respek" isn't all they have.
@@Misaka-gt5yj Liberalism can affect all race and genders, sadly we don't have a quick cure for it.
@@slowville6637 I think we might have the cure, but will we use it?
Don’t ask race
Don’t know race
Don’t care about race
Welcome to the Melting Pot, Now Melt…
That Georgetown professor did a really good job of being pro-discrimination.
Judging on color or race never ends well.
I’m disappointed you didn’t also explore the harm racial quotas do to the students with lower qualifications that are admitted.
"Anti-asian basis" I thought we called that racism
Race conscious assistance. Lolololol. Welcome to the right my Asian friends.
It's not about equality. It's about seeking vengeance based on skin color.
"I don't see it as discrimination, I see it as levelling the playing field"
I love how folk spin these obviously immoral actions. Reminds me of: "We didn't 'fix' the election, we 'fortified' it"
While many people do it of every ilk, modern leftists in America have taken it to a new level.
"leveling the playing field" so that less intelligent people get the seats that more intelligent people would be making much better use of. Right.
To paraphrase the great Thomas Sowell: there is no more prestige in flunking out of the Ivy League than there is getting a degree from a state college.
So if I apply to a school today, my acceptance is affected by discrimination that happened years ago, to different people, by a different administration? Does this "correct" past injustice by creating a new one?
“The consideration of race is [just] one factor among many.” Oh, goodness, that’s even worse!
“Race-conscious assistance.” It’s racism.
“You have to take race into account.” Uhm, that’s not just racism; that’s a definition of racism.
“Race in America matters.” That sounds, uh, racist. :D
I’m born Asian, by the way.
So, being discriminatory is okay now? Got it! Once again the conspiracy theories are correct... "It's not about equality, it's about control and power."
When does this end? What does fair look like?
I'm not hurting you. I'm just "levelling the playing field."
You're just too good at your "freedom" thing, it makes me feel bad about my lazy self.
That guy is a national treasure.
The left's signature version of racism: lower expectations.
There are counties getting rid of F's in elementary schools
Bigotry of low expectations
Yup. Instead of lifting the bottom up, they pull the top down
i wish i knew the lawyer fighting harverd’s discrimination personally. He sounds very much like the moral and wise type of citizen that contributes to society in the best ways possible.
Sadly this Is modern USA in which we love
@@jaishree701 you shouldn'y
@@starryskies113 😒😒why blacks are. Regularly killed by cops so they deserve this racial preference
@1:39 "I wouldn't label it discrimination; I would label it as leveling the playing field"
And there's a precedent for that: Torture - label it as enhanced interrogation techniques.
I can't see that getting past the Supreme Court.
If it was a playing field the blacks would be world champs...
Imagine being that lawyer and waking up every day knowing your fighting one hell of a good fight. Good on him!
Imagine getting into Harvard and having to live the rest of your career out knowing it was only because of the color of your skin. It's demoralizing to professionals who earned their right to be there. Imagine standing on the graduation stage knowing you only get the diploma because you teacher gave you extra points because of your heritage. It is offensive to those who worked to deserve it and it perpetuates the idea, amongst everyone else, that you didn't even deserve it in the first place. Division is the result. Another round of divisiveness brought to you by the ivory tower.
This isn't new stuff, the system of Universities/Scientific Research/Healthcare has always been about divide and conquer. They don't conquer with weapons, they control you with perceived authority of establishment, and then they sell you lies so you live your life paying out every penny you earn to keep the fear away.
Most folks that get cuz race end up dropping out.
"Race is just one factor among many."
Why is it even a factor? This is appalling!
Because many of them deep down as strange as it sounds, hate people of European ancestry and hate Asians.
That quote alone should lose them the case hahaha
I'm gonna play devil's advocate here and say let Harvard set the "factors" they want, under the rights of private business, BUT they are to receive no more public funds of any kind. Fair enough? Anyone that says "no" is either a Harvard employee, or has a misguided bias towards Harvard, which they shouldn't have for ANY business doing business terribly.
If ending affirmative action will result in a decline in black students, then they need a study more.
Stossel hasn't changed at all....he still fights for truth. Everything has changed around him
"I have three kids and I'll be damned if I'm not going to fight very, very hard to make sure that they don't get treated as second-class citizens in the land in which they were born."
Damn straight!
Then please stop voting Democrat.
That line hit hard
