Thank you so much for putting my battery anxiety to rest! I’ve been hearing mixed opinions on the 14” M1 max and I was getting a bit worried. I’m coming from a 16” i9 and I’m hoping for at least a bit better. I ordered the exact same spec you’ve got so hearing good things about the battery is a big relief!
Y'all better like and subscribe because this man didn't leave his office for 2 days filming the new Apple products other than when I dragged him out to get Chick-fil-a
Another great video! I’d personally like to see what your editing workflow looks like. I’m starting to get into videography and editing is a littleee scary 😂
Thanks for great video man. I'm still pondering between 14 and 16. Currently on a 15 and using premiere pro to edit docs. Although I would like more portability at times, I'm more scared of downgrading and loosing some precious timeline space. Would love to hear your thoughts. Also can't remember if you mentioned how much ram you have. Sorry if I missed it. Thanks in advance for you reply.
Thanks. Seeing this machine used in real life is very helpful. Especially when you consider that a notebook computer is first and foremost a notebook computer - meaning that it is meant to be carried around and used in lots of different places. Videos that only show someone sitting at a desk the whole time connected to a large monitor could be using a Mac mini! LOL. And since portability and usability on the go is so important for a notebook computer it is helpful to see it being used that way. BTW, I am one of those who is disappointed that they added back all of those ports. I, like you, connect to my monitor which also has 3 USB-C ports and powers my Mac (currently a maxed out 2019 15" MB) and I much prefer to be able to pull one plug and go. When I am on the go I have everything plugged into a USB-C hub, including power and it is once again only one wire. As for the SD card, I shoot a lot of sports and landscape so I am using a Sony A1 and the SD card in this new MacBook is already obsolete if you are using Sony's Type A cards. I'm just thinking that if they had stuck with less ports and maybe packaged in a robust hub then they would have had more room for battery, airflow, speakers, etc. and maybe even a bit less weight. Oh well. All that said, the performance and portability looks like it will be awesome. Mine is supposedly in the mail (actually somewhere in China) so maybe I will have it before Thanksgiving!
Great video! You have my sub and you def. should have more of them with this quality :) You HAVE to up your morning coffee game!! :D I get super slow SD card read speeds. 42 mb/s. What do you get?
Excellent video. I have been annoyingly busy of late and couldn't watch some of my fave people on Yt so need to catch up Love your channel. I bet like me you worry now and again about the amount of screen time for our eyes!

This was so icy. You got that late night edit going like I do pretty often. I normally have to get my wife's nails done for the late nights. I'm thinking about going from the a6600 to the A7IV and going from 8 bit to 10 bit is my fear. I have on order the 14inch, M1 Max, 32 GPU, 32 GB ram, and 2 tb SSD. I hope it's Gucci
Bro. Basic for the win my dude!!. Looking fresh as always bro. Did u get new tats? I’m digging this new MacBook but I think I may wait for the Mac mini with the M1 max chip
Hey men!! Love the "stress test". It's pretty much how I work as well. Exporting like 1000 Wedding Photos in Lightroom, while I wanna do other stuff, like cutting sth at the same time in Final Cut, or watching sth while having photoshop and things running. Glad to see, that you like it and that the mac seems to be crushing this kind of workload. I'd loooove to hear how long you can use the MacBook on battery having this intense workload. :)) -> subbed.
I saw a guy do a review a couple of days ago indicating that the SD card reader was much slower than plugging his SD card into a SD dongle. He may have just had a problem but he actually showed the speeds and the difference. It was a good card too. I believe a class 10 SanDisk.
How many videos a day do you export? If a video takes 5 times as long to export how much real work do you miss out on? I still use my MBP from 2015. It’s slow to export but O just get lunch while it exports. And I’ve not bought a new system in 5 years. That’s a lot of money I’m not spending. But O don’t need to render much.
Depends on the day or week I suppose. It saves me lot of time in the Actual edit as well like not having to make proxies etc. but yes all depends on what you do!
The most relevant video ever! We have the exact same setup with the FX3 workflow! and I HATE pickles too - don't belong on a chicken sandwich! Purchased and driving to pick up right now!
What I have seen and heard is that the 14in really doesn't throttle but instead, Apple lets that bad boy heat up, and then yes, the fans will go on. It really seems Apple has made a concerted effort not to neuter the 14in. That said, there are just some things the 16in will be ever so slightly better at, battery life and cooling. Thanks for the video. I actually went with the same exact setup as you, though I didn't hear what RAM you have. Speaking of RAM, another interesting piece I found was that the 16gb RAM was keeping up with 32gb, due to the extremely fast SSDs. However, I don't think I would want to put that stress on the SSDs especially with the controversy over the M1 SSDs.
I havent watched anything like that for long enough to know, but doing simple stuff like that doesnt seem to effect the battery much. So it would last a long time
Hi, how is the fan noise? I’ve seen discussion that it is louder than it should be and that the M1 Max is just too big for the 14” frame I’d like the Max for video editing but crazy fan noise would be a deal breaker
I'm both a mac user and pc user. As a pc I have and older i7 8700k with a gtx 1070 8gb. Only the M1 Max beats my pc in video editing(Davinci Resolve tested)...and in Ps it runs a bit more raws that my pc....and it costs double than my pc. They are both really good but I was a bit sceptical abot the new macs...and I still am. Hope this indo helps others to make a decision. Cheers.
Could you give us a feedback on how does the battery life perform on a travel day? It seems like the M1 Max has lower battery life than the M1 Pro devices
I have a 16 for work and bought this and honestly portability trumps the screen on the 16. The main reasons you should consider the 16 is if 1.) main machine and you want extra CPU/GPU power 2.) you don't have an external monitor 3.) you aren't going to be traveling very far with it, i.e. your living room or to a coffee shop. The 14" screen real estate is quite a bit better than the 13" too. I would say try both and see..
I've seen some people saying that their M1 Max macbook pro 16" battery is only lasting about 3 hours before it dies. Got me a bit worried because mine is due to ship very soon :/
Were you doing the video edits off the T5 harddrive you had plugged in? Reason I ask is I'm currently doing all my edits on those drives and thought that is going to end up being the choke point with the new macs
Haha could be it's own for sure. I don't think it's just social media content...Id say most of creatives do, especially in the commercial world. Antying involving a photo or video shoot. Just been like that for years!

Is it difficult to upgrade from ipad pro 10.5 to macbook? I use in everyday life: youtube, browser, trading. What do you think of RAM for my tasks?
From an iPad the base line would be an upgrade!
What up J Hawk! Cool content. What monitor model are you using? I'm looking for a good ultrawide that works good with the M1.

Do you think 64GB is necessary? Or 32 GB is enough for standard video editing?
32 is enough and even the M1 pro for basic editing
The JHawk sauce continues to produce!! 🔥🔥
Haha appreciate you!
Thanks for sharing your experience. Do you edit videos on the internal SSD or on an external SSD?
Usually external but I’ll now be using internal on this MacBook!

Definitely waiting for the full battery life breakdown. Saw some M1 Pro 14 inch battery life on other RUclips videos but none on M1 Max 14 inch.
