I bought an Epiphone IGC Les Paul 61 SG with Gibson pickups with the pink case fur too, around 900.00 no regrets. Peter Green was one of my favorites. I ordered the Alpine White 61 Les Paul SG and it arrived with cracks around the nut. Had to send it back and was pretty bummed. The next day I ended up with this. Funny how these things play out!
It's a very nice guitar but for $1500 you would think they would at least give us an actual flamed maple top and not a veneer maple is not that expensive contrary to what some may think. I also think that for that price you should get some extras like a COA, a custom strap and maybe a faux signed Kirk Hammett holding the guitar print. Not a huge deal and I do realize guitar prices are at a premium currently. All that being said it's a really nice looking guitar and looks to be built really well, (probably better QC than Gibson) since Epiphones are built over seas!

Well . . . it does what it says on the can, thanks for the simple clear Middle position demo. From what I've read this one has a few features that actually outpace the Gibson 3K version.
Hello there! I bought mine for 925 USD straight from a warehouse that had 3 Greenies left. I pulled the trigger on it 'cause for the price it was a good deal. Now, there's something I don't quite get about the knobs when I'm playing in the middle position... Not sure if anyone will respond to this message, but I'd love to ask you a few questions about the knobs.
@@SayonaraSixString Thanks for replying. So here's the strange thing about the knobs on my guitar... When I'm in the middle position, if I keep the neck pickup volume at 10, then the bridge pickup volume knob acts a bit strangely, i.e. when I put it at 10, the tone is really thin, and when I put it slightly below 10, closer to 9, it thickens up a lot and gets much louder and then the tone I get is closer to what I get when I'm in the neck position. Now, when I put the neck knob around 9 or below, then the bridge volume knob doesn't seem to be affected that much. I hope it makes sense... would be much easier just record a sound sample. It really bothers me. Is there something wrong with my Greeny?
He will do that to promote them. Kirk Hammet does the same. They don't really want to play them, it'll be part of their endorsement contract to be seen using them.
@FrankBuyers...guitarista-iu3zg Nope, you've just confirmed it, but you're too stupid to see it. Its part of the endorsement you freak, not because they choose to play the budget Epiphone copy 😆
I have two epiphones inspired by gibson series the 50s lespaul and es 335 they are very good sounding guitars and looks good too. I might buy epiphone greeny too ill try it out first
Guitar is literally an Epiphone 50’s tribute Les Paul with a different headstock,”Greenybuckers” and a case. $1299 would had been the sweet spot. I’ll wait until someone has buyer’s remorse and returns one to Guitar Center
With the anticipation & hype of this guitar, if you wait, you prolly won’t be able to find one for under $2000. Many will be buying them just to flip them, knowing the demand for them as a collectible item
@@geraldpinkerton6412 I think it will be tough to flip this for $2K+. You can buy a mint used Gibson version of the Greeny for around $2500. The problem is the price gap between the Epiphone and Gibson version is not that large.
@taxationistheft2.0yup Guitar Center has been blowing them out in store for several months for $599. Epiphone just confirmed that all new Gibson-Epiphone collaboration guitars will now have the Gibson style headstock going forward. So they are phasing out the current 1959 Les Pauls with the old headstock.
I once played bass with Peter Green(long story)when he was playing the guitar on which this is based, although at the time of course nobody knew the icon either he--or the guitar-- would become. I really really like this Epi and those out of phase sounds are magical---makes you wonder why other Epiphones with an out of phase option are so weak. I know they use different pickups but the sound difference shouldn't be so great. The only thing which is making me hesitate is that price. If I could get one below £1K I would be in like a shot.
I am a sucker for Peter Green, so I’m definitely interested. I have the Vintage and the $3200 Gibson version. The Vintage is the only one that actually looks like the original. To me, that makes me cherish it more than the others. I also have an Epiphone 50’s model that looks almost exactly like the guitar that Peter had- before Gary added all of the wear and tear. I’m tempted to put the Greenybucker set in it, and let everyone else overpay for this Epiphone
The Vintage Lemon Drop is by far the best Greeny for the buck in my opinion. You get lots of guitar for the money. In fact Vintage brand in general punches way above their weight. If Vintage had a larger presence in the US I believe they would give Epiphone a run for their money. But some folks can’t deal with that pointy cutaway on their Les Pauls.
I wish Epiphone would include a photo before their guitars leave the factory during final inspection it must cost next to nothing and is such a nice touch. I also did read somewhere they didnt want to go too heavy on Kirk Hammett because they want the guitar to stand on its own etc
The price vs. everything else is why they did the Headstock in my opinion but is the headstock worth 700 bucks to you. You can get the Lemon 1959 for 750 bucks
So I’m intrigued by this in spite of the price. The Gibson headstock, the fact that it seems to have real mother of pearl inlays and the different neck profile all make this structurally different from the Bonamassa Lazarus (as opposed to replaceable features like the pickups and knobs). I’m still not sure if it’s worth the premiums but it makes more sense knowing that it uses real mother of pearl seemingly. However, it may still be a better bang for your buck to modify a Lazarus, a 59 in lemon burst or even a Standard 50s in the similar honey burst (especially the latter if you don’t care about specs like a one piece neck and a long neck tenon). Greenybuckers are out of stock but you can always get the Seymour Duncan Green Magic set. I still feel like I’d get an Epi Greeny if I had the money though.
Technically they put a hint of "Greeny" at every price level from the Slash AFD Starter Pack to the Sweetwater Lemon Burst Exclusive '50s Standard, to the 1959 GC/MF Exclusive Lemon Burst, to this $1500 guitar, and up to the $3K Gibson Greeny and the $20K Murphy Lab Greeny. "Greeny" is a successful brand for Gibson and they're taking it all the way to the bank.
@@KevinTheMetalhead HaHa - I'm exaggerating a bit of course with the Slash Starter pack, but I do think there's something there with all the "Lemon" options. I think most people are into traditional bursts for Les Pauls but Greeny-heads can't keep their eyes off a yellow flame. I certainly didn't care for yellow-ish Les Pauls until I got struck by the Greeny bug.
I got a Greeny last week, I love it so much I bought another one, it'll be here Mon., I also have 3 Epi '59's and I had a Lazarus, I sold it, I'm not a fan of the Gibby 'Burst Buckers, I hotrodded my '59's with Dimarzios and Duncans
I can totally understand buying another, especially if you found a good deal on one. I am also considering selling my Lazarus. I just haven’t played it much since I got the Greeny.
@@SayonaraSixString there's just something special about the greeny, I heard that the Epiphone was a better build than the USA model, I don't know, I do know the Epi has the long neck tenon, USA does not, I also heard the Epi neck is the scanned neck profile of the actual Greeny and the USA is just a 50's neck profile. So the feel of it is special and the tone is so cool to me. I can't put it down, I did pick up one of my '59's and it don't feel as cool as Greeny.
So how did you come by this guitar already? The official release date, which hasn’t even been officially released is 11/21/23. Are you the dude who had one sold to him “by accident” at a Guitar Center? I called my guy at Sweetwater & he gave me the info on it, & I reserved one. Good video bro!
@@SayonaraSixString I just googled it & did see a few places that have them. That’s so weird since they haven’t even released anything about it in the press
I can’t get over that top it’s unbelievable there comfortable shipping it out at $1500 honestly I wouldent be surprised if it got a revision or price drop down the line.
Epiphone and Gibson have been revising prices up on all their products this past year so it’s hard to say. It seems all Epiphone guitars jumped $50-$100.
Dude I'm gonna say that I am buying one of these for sure! I mean, there's reasons why it comes at a premium price. The inlays are *real* mother of toilet seat (Dan Erlewine quote lol), and of course the open book headstock (wait for the nay-sayers to chime in about that), and the Gibson Custom Shop collaboration to just name a few! I love Kirk and have 2 other signature geets of his and this is really right up my ally so don't let these people make you think that 1500 for an Epi is insane because I'm pulling the trigger myself! Peace Brother!!
I must admit, even with that pricing this guitar is probably gonna fly off the shelves. The fact having a non-JP epiphone with a proper open book head stock alone is huge, and then including the fact it's a Greeny replica WITH the gibson and not epiphone's version. For people who've not been able to afford any of the gibson offerings due to pricing this might be a little more achieveable to purchase and that's kinda big. I'm still waiting on the DG-335 Epiphone version (which I'm guessing it'll be similarly priced), so that's the only reason I wouldn't buy this, but if it weren't for that I'd also be someone asking my local guitar store asking for this.
It’s interesting to see where Epiphone goes from here. Clearly they’re taking big steps to change that budget brand stigma. They are no longer “Gibson’s version of Squier.”
@@SayonaraSixString I do think some models they will definitely keep that "Gibson's cheaper bro" vibe for sure, but yea I do think they want to merge the mid-high end models into Epiphone too. My guess is they're want to push the Gibson brand to more of a premium brand than now, and make Epiphone be that "working class" instruments with drops of high end models like these to tease the fans of the Gibson brand who can't necessarily afford new Gibsons.
I believe that Joe Bonamassa guitar is a three piece neck. As far as recent Epiphones go, it doesn't look too bad! But for that much money? One sure could find a used Gibson! I mean, how many variations of this "Greeny" guitar do we need? It wasn't this way until Kirk Hammett got his hands on it & actually carved his initials in the back! Yikes!
The Bonamassa Lazarus has a one-piece neck and I believe the 1961 Les Paul SG w/hardcase does too. But yeah, something Epiohone has been featuring lately.
The Epiphone Les Paul standard 50s is $649. It's not hard to wire a guitar like Greeny, but I suppose that's not the point? Not even real rosewood on the fretboard?? You can get a guitar made in Kalamazoo for less. Harmony guitars are made there. Also, $2600 for a Heritage standard that's a much better value
Wait, Holy shit!! Finally, an Epiphone Les Paul with a one piece neck?! Wow! With that headstock, what this actually looks like is an Epiphone Japan Les Paul. Well, with the exception of, no rosewood fretboard. It's made in China? You know what that means? Particularly with that headstock? Oh no! Not the dreaded, Chibson!! 😮
First, thanks for the video review. Personally, the sound of this guitar is ok for me. But so disappointing about the top wood(looking like my 250$ guitar). If I buy this guitar I would probably have to pay more for coloring and relic. 😅
I think the problem with this guitar at $1,500 is you have to love it just as it is. Any extra money you put into it would not make much sense. At that point you might as well save up for the $3k Gibson version. The price gap is not that large compared to other Epi vs Gibson model versions.
I read somewhere that the Greenybucker pickups in the guitar is different from the ones you can buy from the Gibson shop. Do you know if the ones in your Epiphone are wax potted. I saw that the ones sold separately from the Custom Shop are unpotted (microphonic)
I'm not certain, but I'm pretty sure they are wax-potted. They are very gain friendly. I was also a bit surprised that they sound a bit hot for supposedly being "classic" PAFs.
@@ElJuanSolo No issues - very fun to play around with the tones. The Gibson pickups and the electronics (CTS pots, Mallory caps, etc) are where the true Gibson-quality shines with this guitar. Everything else is Epiphone, but I think they paid some extra attention - or I just got lucky with a good build. Hard to say.
@@SayonaraSixString just ordered mine at midnight LOL I get the feeling these are gonna fly off the shelves. Says Gibson USA Greenybuckers so they’re wax potted.
I'm cool with my ASFB '59 for $799, with a top that puts these yellow ones to shame. Shit, for $1299 the Adam Jones sig. comes with a chainsaw case and more custom specs than any other Epiphone LP I know of? I ordered a Frank Frazetta "The Berserker" custom art version around this time last year. It's been modified with Gotoh tuners, a Tusq XL nut, and EMG 81/85 pickups since then. They're both excellent guitars for the price, and literally irreplaceable, as neither can be purchased new anymore. Seems the '59 is being rebadged to become whatever the flavor of the year is, while the price has nearly doubled! Ouch!
@@SayonaraSixString Isn't the new headstock actually just the same as the Kalamazoo with a Gibson shaped end? It doesn't look "right" to me? The sides don't taper out the same way as an actual Gibson. Looks very boxy.
No Les Paul and Epiphone the Gibson Les Paul wouldn't even exist today period...Les Paul began construction on what would become the Log in 1939 after befriending Epiphone owner Epi Stathopoulo. Epi gave Les the keys to the company’s New York factory, where Les worked on the design after hours. His somewhat crude invention consisted of a four-inch by four-inch block of pine, on which he attached a neck, bridge and pickups. He played the instrument live but people were initially bewildered by its unorthodox appearance. No matter. Les Paul had a clever response. The luthier cut an Epiphone hollowbody in two and attached the two halves to either side of his four-by-four-inch slab. It was now essentially a through-neck construction, only with a separate neck piece. But, crucially, it looked not unlike a regular guitar. Its central pine slab also reduced feedback issues and increased sustain, while the guitar also featured a vibrato bridge patented by Doc Kauffman, the Vibrola. This is the Log as we know it.
If Epiphone put out guitars made in USA this would be valued . Point is $1500+ for made in china guitar… ?? It’s a fact that Kirk didn’t want his name attached to this guitar in the sense that he didn’t want his name embossed anywhere on this. I’m guessing that’s why there’s no COA. It is still considered an artist signature edition and will be a one and done model for Epiphone.
That makes sense, I think the Gibson $3k+ version is the same way. The deluxe Gibson Murphy Lab $20k version I think has all kinds of extras though of course. Dropping $1,500 on an Epi I guess I just wanted at least a thank you card. 😆

Saw joe bonamassa live recently in Oklahoma..he played his Epiphones..
He will do that to promote them. Kirk Hammet does the same. They don't really want to play them, it'll be part of their endorsement contract to be seen using them.

I have two epiphones inspired by gibson series the 50s lespaul and es 335 they are very good sounding guitars and looks good too. I might buy epiphone greeny too ill try it out first
Definitely try it out first!
Guitar is literally an Epiphone 50’s tribute Les Paul with a different headstock,”Greenybuckers” and a case. $1299 would had been the sweet spot. I’ll wait until someone has buyer’s remorse and returns one to Guitar Center
Some of the best deals I’ve ever come across have always been in the Guitar Center Used section!
@@SayonaraSixString you’re probably right about that. I almost bought a Gibson one for $2500
@taxationistheft2.0yup Guitar Center has been blowing them out in store for several months for $599.
What an awesome epic memory! Yes the price is difficult. Gibson did some amazing research for these pickups.
@@SayonaraSixString or the headstock.
I wish Epiphone would include a photo before their guitars leave the factory during final inspection it must cost next to nothing and is such a nice touch. I also did read somewhere they didnt want to go too heavy on Kirk Hammett because they want the guitar to stand on its own etc
Apparently Gibson is no longer doing the “baby photos” with new guitars so I don’t think we’ll see it for Epiphones. It was a nice touch for sure.
@@SayonaraSixString na i bought a Gibson Les Paul Standard last week and i got a photo and sign off inspection card. Hope they dont stop doing it.
The price vs. everything else is why they did the Headstock in my opinion but is the headstock worth 700 bucks to you. You can get the Lemon 1959 for 750 bucks
Plop a set of Greenyburst pickups in it and you have the same guitar for $450 less.
@@SayonaraSixString You think that the lemon bursts in all price points are purposefully meant to represent Greeny in some way? Interesting.
I think I might have flipped the neck magnet in the (on sale) GC/MF lemon burst 1959
Good move!
Lots of stores have been selling them already. You just gotta look!
@@SayonaraSixString I just googled it & did see a few places that have them. That’s so weird since they haven’t even released anything about it in the press
$1499 for a veneer top, Indian Laurel fretboard and a dull poly finish?
Nope....
Pricing inspired by Gibson
How you compare with another les paul replica such as Tokai, Edwards etc. BTW what a great video!thanks for your sharing~
Thank you! I do not have a Tokai or Edwards so I can’t really say. I have been looking at many Edwards though! Very nice guitars!
Sounds like african mahogany or okoume unplugged? (Is it a bright as the gibson?)
The resonance is nothing special. In fact I would say it’s much darker than my Gibsons when unplugged.
@SayonaraSixString than it's okoume... kinda sad that for the price they woundt put african mahogany there...
13:14 I think the calculation should be on the amount of money over a standard ('59) Epi LP (699-999).
Good thinking!
Damn it, I've been eyeing the srv strat... Decisions!
You won’t regret it! Still playing it a lot! 👍
2018 and newer vintage v100 have one piece neck and body and full maple top for 500 700
I must admit, even with that pricing this guitar is probably gonna fly off the shelves.
The 50s Standards were $499 on sale at Guitar Center just a few weeks ago. Deals are everywhere if you look. 👍
😮
I'm just trying to get over it actually having a Gibson headstock & a one piece neck!
@@SayonaraSixString I agree. If I want to copy it like Greeny, it would be better to find a second-hand Gibson and parts.
I saw the lemon burst for $750 the other day. I thought that if it was a limited edition, the prices would increase. Limited edition my a$$!
Twice as much as my '59 because it says "greeny". Not a chance.
Almost 3x as much. Guitar Center is blowing out the ‘59s in-store for $599. Of course if you need to have lemon burst it’s $750.
@@SayonaraSixStringso not microphonic,no buzz when you touch the pickups ? Sorry, might seem like dumb questions but it’s a $1500 investment

Ouch!
Apparently rumor is that the final Adam Jones signature will have a Gibson style headstock. Very hot rumor.
@@SayonaraSixString Isn't the new headstock actually just the same as the Kalamazoo with a Gibson shaped end? It doesn't look "right" to me? The sides don't taper out the same way as an actual Gibson. Looks very boxy.
@@SayonaraSixString Oh....that is a juicy one......I have the other 6....it would be sort of weird though if the 7th had a different headstock.
No cavity shielding paint? Sad :((((
I haven’t had any issues but yes would’ve been nice.
