SoR4 sold out FAST!
I remember the live action movie, it was worst then the street fighter movie from 1995
Digital? I don't think so, pal!
I learned the elbow attack was invincible in the original double dragon and I could finish the game on a single quarter because of it.
Technos made the mistake of outsourcing the game to another company. They should have waited for Kishimoto to finish working on "The Combatribes". It was only a six month wait. 🤷♂️
15:56 For those unaware, Marion survived in the NES port of 'Double Dragon II'.
NES Double Dragon 3 was the last Christmas present my maternal grandfather ever got me. Guess that's why I'll always love it. 😢
I vividly remember renting it (NES DD3) with my cousin and having a blast playing 2 player co-op. I'll always love it as well.
Can you believe for years we thought his name was Billy. Lucky this game corrected that mistake.
It never ceases to amaze me that video game companies lend their golden child to some random third party.
Say what you want about how Nintendo treats their fans, but they know how to protect their IPs
@@decker528sometimes. They let Retro handle the Metroid Prime series and that ranged from fantastic to pretty alright. Then they let Team Ninja do Metroid Other M...
@@Kilmarro I actually really liked Other M from a gameplay standpoint. I'm not a big enough Metroid fan for a lot of the story complaints to register to me
Fighting Chin was hilarious in the nes version if you stand by the door as soon as it opens you cyclone kick him in the face and he does his entire dialog laying flat on his back. "My kung fu is without equal!" 😅😅😅😅
DD3 on the NES is still until this day, one of my top10 best nes games ever made.
i need to point out, i played the famicom version as a kid, so no Bimmy joke for me.
The game looked great, had a great soundtrack and a great 2 player co-op, it was also challening enough for my then 10 years old self and brother and cousins.
There is also an updated version that seems exclusive to the switch with no sprite flicker and uses more buttons, it is highly recommened.
Shame really about the arcade one, it looked great but was made in a hurry ....
anw, the nes version is a 10/10 for me.
I remember it being really hard, which I loved back in the day, because I would never stop till I completed a game. Giving it longevity. And being able to play as the bosses after you defeat them was so awesome.
Did the famicom version give you more than one life? Cause that was always the deal breaker for me. Which is to as cause every other part of the dd3 on nes was so much better than dd2. And I freakin loved dd2
@@ishamail24 no, same deal with the lives, i heard people say there is a difference, but the version i had was in japanese and had the same difficulty and same end boss, the only difference is the name of the ninja, other than that, it was %100 the same, i am replaying it in english now and i can say it is exactly the same.
@@EpicLebaneseNerd to bad. Thanks for saving me some time finding a rom lol
I would say I liked it but I still think 2 was the best out of the NES series.
This game was incredibly difficult. I never got past the stage where you walk on the stone letters
With the NES version, we were all used to having 4 lives at the start, and with DD2, able to use 2 player B mode to kill Jimmy and get a total of 8.
Then Double Dragon 3 arrives and is super tough, but it only gave you ONE life to start! (I learned later that each character you win is kind of another "life" but i could only make it to Chin at the time, and thought he was useless)
THAT'S what killed the NES sales. It was the biggest topic on the school ground at the time!
Everybody rented it ONCE, and that was it.
I rented it again with a game genie and finally beat it.
Then as an adult i realized Chin isn't useless, he's basically a cheat code!!
Now i can beat the game without game genie!
Having played the Arcade game all the way through I can honestly say that the "extra characters" are nearly useless when taking on regular enemies or bosses if you are playing 1 player.
and it cost you money to get them.
I didn’t actually mind Double Dragon 3: The Rosetta Stone on Amiga in the early 90s. It was one of the few side scrolling beat em ups that actually made it to that platform. Most ‘Arcade’ stuff was on Sega and Nintendo platforms, namely the SNES and MegaDrive.
Could they download Jolly Roger’s Cookbook from a BBS? No! Did they have Mario, Sonic and a bunch of Capcom stuff? Yes.
Yeah, I remember the Amiga port of this, it was almost arcade perfect because the arcade version was so jerky. It didn't stop me from playing it to death though!
I first hated and then loved the NES version of DD3. I loved it after I discovered that you can play other characters by selecting the menu screen, instead of relying on one life/character. I remember when my older brother and I got to the cleopatra final boss for the first time, having never seen the final levels before, it was exciting.
Finally, a game that "caused outrage" that actually caused outrage.
It caused outrage because people couldn't finish it. Lol
The NES port of this game is really good, just difficult unless you spam the spin kick
The snes version was hard as heck. It gets easier when you unlock more characters. The ability to switch when you're about to die was a blessing. I always wondered why it felt like a completely different game from the other ones in the series
Didnt know it was a snes game
Wasnt on SNES
What!? It wasn't 🤔 then what double dragon am thinking about? Was it double dragon 4 for SNES? No way 🤷🏾♀️
It was on NES.. I got confused 🤣 i last played it when I was in 2nd grade or 1st. It's been awhile since I played it
WWF superstars WAS amazing, good shout
I’ve only played DD3 on NES. Pre Blockbuster in my neighborhood. We had this place called Erols and they only rented games and movies for overnight. I only remember the game being frustrating and then had to take it back
i remember erol's, you from virginia beach?
Still a better version of Cleopatra than netflix version
I had a lot of fun with double dragon 3 on the nes as a kid. A lot. The Arcade was unplayable to me lol but the NES version was a good game
As a kid I remember being appalled that the game only gave you one life. It was too hard to even clear the first area. It was only after I owned the game as an adult did I realize that defeating the bosses gave you more lives by becoming playable characters . It gave me better appreciation for the game, however, it is still brutally difficult.
On the NES version you could use the head-flip attack to launch dudes off a cliff. It was fun. Not as much fun as the hyper-knee attack from NES DD2, but close enough for me.
not close, not as fun at all. Plus it is somehow weaker then a cyclone kick...which is just bonkers to me.
I actually enjoyed the NES DD3. I did hate the arcade version though. Even as a kid, I saw how terrible it was after one quarter. I never played it again after that.
It could have been worse.Renegade III springs to mind..
**Haaaaaawk.....FLOOOOOEY*
I actually like Double Dragon 3 better than 2, cuz u can run and play as more characters
There is no better itch than athlete's foot
Lotrimin af
😂😂😂🤣
Double dragon 3 the Rosetta Stone
Bimmy & Jimmy learn a new language
My fam and friends absolutely loved the NES DD3. If you used their secret techniques, like the insanely OP Knee and that amazing jumping throw, plus the fun additional characters, it was a super enjoyable game.
Current "I need views" outrage, perhaps, but back in the day there was hardly even a discussion about it.
Marion comes back to life at the end of DDII on NES
The hurricane kick and the fact that Chin can just punch anyone to death almost redeem the NES version.
Return of double dragon still the best one to date. Wish they released a new one
The SNES game? Yeah, I'm in ✊
One of my favorite beat em ups for SNES and that era .
it is half-finished and it shows. The slowdown is an incredible turn-off, plus way too easy.
Elbow attack, bag of chips and 20p. All I needed for a happy school dinner time.
I would like to see a tour to his game collection
I dread to think how many hours i put into DD2 way back when. Fun combat (that took some getting used to). A simple but compelling, classic NES premise. And really good music.
That Toyota 2000 GT was the only redeeming part of the arcade game
It was amazing how the arcade back home went from half 80s games and half beat em ups to being flooded with several Street Fighter and MK machines so quickly. Granted, I only got to go a few times a year, but every trip in 1990-1994 felt like stepping forward an entire year in technology. I never remember anyone touching the DD3 machine, guess this was half the reason!
Those were amazing times to be a gamer. And yeah, the cash shop is garbage... But you could easily accomplish the same thing in a game like X Men by dumping in five bucks of extra lives. At that point you can fly through the game by spamming your special attack. Not defending this practice, just saying half the arcade was P2W until competitive fighters made for a more balanced multiplayer experience.
The fact they embraced the Bimmy blunder is pretty awesome ngl
China and Italy VGM are the sole reason why I enjoy DD3 for the NES. Sure, it wasn't the best in the series, but brought so many memories from my youth.
I really liked the super nintendo version. I think it was even called Super Double Dragon. It had a lot of cool moves that you could do and I liked the weapons.
Well, the "cash grab" would benefit the arcade operators, not Technos directly. It's not the last game to do that, either: "Riding Hero" on the Neo Geo (a weird motorcycle racing/RPG hybrid) required you to insert one credit for 15 minutes of gameplay, for a game that under ideal circumstances required 3 hours or so of gameplay, and there was no other way to gain time in-game.
You mentioned double tap to run being first added in this game I think... (i was listening at work not watching) But, and correct me if im wrong but didn't the original Double Dragon also have it in the 2p vs mode?
Funny story, when i got Double dragon 2 on the NES it was a while after it released. I loved the game but it did take me a fair amount of time to finish it, especially after playing the normal difficulty only to learn i had to play the highest difficulty to truly complete it.
Anyways one night after i finally finished it and saw the awesome ending i was so amazed at how good the game was that i wanted more. The ending seemed to imply this would be the case.
I went to bed thinking omg i wonder when this awesome 3rd installment will come? The next morning i turned on the TV and while watching cartoons, the very first commercial for double dragon 3 was shown and i was blown away, i couldn't believe that after just one day of whishing for this, my prayers were answered.
Anyways once i got it for the NES, it was a dissapointment. Combat did not feel fluid and precise like DD2, the story was also weak and levels uninspired. I could overlook all these things if it wasn't for one major flaw of the game design that completely ruined the game for me. And it's the fact that all you need to do to see the entire level is run towards the end of it, as there were no segments to prevent you from doing so. You could basically stand at the beginning of the level or run towards the end of it then finish all enemies off vs. how beat em ups normally progress which is, eliminate a few foes, advace a segment, beat up some more foes advance another segment and so on until you reach the end of the level. Thus allowing you to appreciate each segment of a level. Don't understand how this major flaw in this type of a game was overlooked.
I don't mind buying characters, weapons or levels once because making new characters, items, and missions takes work. But IMO having to rebuy characters and items every time you play like in Double Dragon III the Arcade game is absurd.
What I liked about DD3:
- The music
- The multiple characters with completely different styles of fighting
- The weapon system
- The new moves
What I didn't like:
- The repetitive level design
- Getting stunlocked way too easily
- The short length
- The silly final boss
Given the rise of reboots and the re-emergence of appreciation for side-scrolling beat-'em-ups, a new Double Dragon game with tight mechanics and teeth would really do well.
I really like the dd3 on nes
Micro transactions in arcades, like refilling your health in WWF superstars kind of made sense, but here it was different. I like that the home version was like Streets of Rage 3 in that defeated characters could become playable (Shiva and Roo)
I never saw this game in the arcades. When I first started this game in MAME, I just assumed the bad frame rate was due to my underpowered PC. 😂
Please do videos on the two D&D beat em ups, the bouncer, urban reign, mortal kombat shaolin monks, the scott pilgrim vs the world game, dragon's crown, & mighty morphin power rangers mega battle
I had the Amiga 500 version of Double Dragon 3, can't remember Sonny.
INSANELY DIFFICULT was KEY HERE😂😂. I could get back used to playing this title though..
I encountered this game in the wild back in the day when it was brand new. Being a DD fan i was excited, so put in a quarter or two and started to play. Then all the sudden it was asking me for more money. I remember being completely disgusted. Never played it again.😮💨
Me and my buddy enjoyed playing this one as kids
I am surprised the nes version did not have marion as a playable character
New characters should always be unlockable via achievement, and the option to buy should only be there for people who kind of suck.
Combatribes should have been double dragon 3
Just started video.
Are we going to talk about the Number based HP and how you insert coins for more health and the in game shop requiring more credits? It was the original in game cash shop.
OMG they invented in game microtransactions. A pox upon whoever was responsible for this decision.
I played the hell outta this as a kid when it came out
I love this game part 1-2 and super double dragon on the SNES.
I have the NES version of Double Dragon III.
I had fun with it, as clunky as it was. Though the platforming stuff was horrific. Especially trying to do it in multiplayer.
Sad to see they did not add Rembrandt in this game. 😢
DD3 arcade music was tight tho
In the home version you could jump off walls and turn yourself into a missile/flying kick and even jump off each other for the same attack. And even though it was clunky it was a good game and i enjoyed it. Music wasnt all that bad esp the boss music.
i made a game like this but i can't find the power chord to this computer that i have it on..
The NES version was hard
Irony = making a video that ends talking about Dlc is bad but then in your ads you show a game that has dlc and in you comment ad you name another game that has dlc. love your videos just caught that irony
the NES one was good! good music too. very different though
I think the nes version is a solid 7/10 game for me. Still pretty decent to good.
Why are part 3’s in almost everything dont do so hot
‘Power Records’ LOL
I had the NES version I got it for my birthday
Super Double Dragon is the best one in the series. By far imo. Doesn't have an arcade version tho.
Remember when I clocked DD3 arcade on emulator. Was so anticlimactic..
Renegade was my ISH!!! LOL👑💯
Black Shadow Warriors... YEEEEEAAAAHHHH😎😎👍👍
Always loved DD3
I liked the nes game. I got it the same day as battletoads. So I had a lot of stress that year 😂
I remember the first time I played that shit my friend and I were like what the fuck is this crap
Double dragon was a cool game
Here's a hot take:
Double Dragon 3 The Sacred Stones (for the NES, not the terrible arcade game) was a GREAT game, and if you some acuity, and look at it from a story telling standpoint, presentation standpoint etc., it's actually quite well done. The best rendition of the theme song is in this game, and the graphics pushed the limits of the what the NES could actually do. AGREE 100% that is brutally difficult, but can we be honest here? Have you played DD 2? ITS BRUTAL in China, It's BRUTAL in certain boss areas-this is no different, just a bit of a platforming tinge that you have to get used to later inthe game. That said, once you've played with all three Characters enough (Billy or Jimmy, Chin and Yahgou Ranzou) the game actually has quite bit of depth. Is it one of the best of all time? Definitely not. But is it a BAD game? NO.
Double Dragon 3 for NES was definately way better than the shitty arcade version and better in many ways than the first Double Dragon for NES, but definately not the second. One of the main issues is that the enemies dont give a chance to attack with your normal moves. This makes it very unbalanced and requires you to pretty much spam special moves only, ditching most of the regular strikes. What makes this worse is that the game has variable slow down. Meaning the game cant keep up with whats on screen and slows down regularly, but at unpredictable intervals and degrees. This is a big problem because they made the special moves so that you must execute the second press of the two buttons at the peak of your jumps or it wont register, similiar to Shinobi 3. The timing thing shouldve been ditched since the game does not run at a consistant speed. You still wouldve had to spam specials, but atleast it would play smoothly.
I beat the game by using a turbo controller. Set both buttons to turbo and hold them down. Due to the rapid presses of that setting, you will register special moves consistantly without any misfires. With that in mind some general tips are to get farther into the game so you unlock the other characters, which basically act as extra lives and extra health bars you can fall back on and switch over to. Its possible all characters also get thier health refilled between stages but its been a while. The main thing becomes survival and holding out by switching characters. Aside from this you want to spam specials almost purely, but youll want to find the right characters to do this with for specific sections. Once you understand all of that its not too difficult to complete. What I reccomend doing is a save state practice run. This is how I put alot of these older games together legit. Practice each stage until your confident you have a route carved out and figure out what characters and thier specials to use for what parts. Certain bosses will usually get anihilated by a characters specific special move. The fat guy sucks but can be used to survive a little longer, so each character is valuable. The game isnt as nasty with platforming as the second game, but make sure you practice and learn where to jump from and have it down. The hardest part is then the final boss room with all the enemies, so practice that and try out all the characters. I beat this one a while ago so never made a tutorial.
Are we not going to talk about the controls? Why in the name of ass do I need the buttons to attack in different directions?
Double Dragon 3 for the NES is a good game, i do not understand why ppl say its an impossible game (it's a relative slightly hard game, a little above normal dif) and the game is actually fun to play.
the arcade or genesis games are terrible :s
Yeah I would say it's slightly hard. I beat it as a 10 yr old after playing it every weekend for several months.
Port of Double Dragon III to Amiga was excellent with better and smoother animation and easier gameplay. For the Amiga, which was severely lacking good arcade ports, it is funny that when it finaly received such a good arcade port, it is was a port of a such a bad game!
First arcade game to really accept micro- transactions for extra lives, energy, etc! 🤬🤬
Play DD3 on NES with a Game Genie and use cheats and its fine and is more fun.
I thought you did this video already?
But the ports of Génesis and GB it's more similar to the arcade Game 🤔🤔🤔
I liked the game for the NES. Arcade and genesis version were trash though
The first time I played this I thought the game was glitching, I reset, no it wasn't 😢 dafuq happened here??
Hey i enjoyed home version
i lived it.. dd2 was one of my favorite games of all time as a kid i musta beat it 20 times or more.. then my buddy got dd3 to one-up me and it just felt slow an weak.. the characters look like a pigeon toed idiot when hes holding the nunchucks
Well growing up in the 80s and 90s I would say we loved playing the first two but 3 was not good at all really none of the games after part 2 was good too me 🤷🏿♂️
You know why DD3 sucks? Because it does. Plain and simple. There literally is nothing left to know.
I loved the NES version. I hated the Arcade game.
3 is the best one.
Controversy is pronounced con-tro-ver-see not con-trov-eh-see
