Such a successful decision indeed! My admiration cup overfloweth with you both!! ♥️♥️

Janice you are an amazing teacher I’m 65 years old but if I were in my thirties I would do what y’all do and make my own yogurt. Y’all are truly a blessing and teach everyone from 8 to 80 useful things keep on with your wonderful vlogs you get 2 big thumbs up from me
I make mine by sitting it in the oven wrapped in a heavy towel and the oven light on, no other heat source. Heat to 180 in a pot, then cool to 110. When at 110 then i stir in some of my last batch of yogurt as a starter, then do the oven method, after it is set i drain off the whey as i like it thicker like greek yogurt.
You never cease to amaze me, Janice, I learn something new and useful from you and your lovely family constantly. You're helping me find a healthier lifestyle for myself and my family so from the bottom of my heart, thank you!
When I have~ fun in our kitchen, I clean up my ~ Fun ~ as soon as possible, loved it when you were pouring the warm milk into the jars & you... Slopped your Dripper😁enjoyed yours & Sarah's laughter

Being a widow living by myself I just make mine in the I.P. but always wanted to see it done your way. I also drain the whey for a time from mine. Interesting you use honey as your sweetener (I use Maple syrup) and add half a can of Condensed Sweetened Milk in the original milk and culture I did not know you could just stir the culture in after milk is ready. Very interesting you have taught this old dog a new trick.
YUM! So glad you shared this, I've made it in the instant pot, but this seems pretty easy too. I'm going to try it your way the next time. We love ours topped with homemade granola & fruit as well. Homemade ice cream from fresh jersey milk & cream sounds so delicious! God bless y'all and thank you for all the great videos!
Thank you, Jenny! If you do try it this way, I would love a review comparing this method to your instant pot method. I've never tried it in an instant pot since this way is so simple, but I am curious if the end result would be different between the two. :)

Whenever you make your second batch of yogurt, you can choose to use some more of your store-bought yogurt as the starter or you can go ahead and use some of the yogurt from the first batch you made. Either way, it should turn out great! I do make our sour cream and it's very, very similar to making yogurt. I need to make up some more, so I'll try to film it when I do! Yes, it would absolutely work with store-bought milk! I would expect it to last a good 2 weeks in the fridge, but we usually use ours up before that time has passed. :)
Janice, you are introducing me to a whole new way of living! I'll just tell you straight out ..... I dont even own a cooking thermometer! I've eaten yogurt once in my life (my grandchildren eat it all the time but it's store bought) I have eaten frozen yogurt a good amount of times, from TCBY (a frozen yogurt franchise.) Hey Toni, always glad seeing you here!! I think I just like the challenge of learning new things. That way, even if I choose to buy my yogurt at the store...at least I KNOW that I know how to make it myself. It's like I get extra points for independence or "beating the system" or something. I don't know why that motivates me, but it does. Oh, and...we do still buy Hershey's kisses for homemade peanut butter cookies and ice cream sandwiches are in my freezer in the garage. It's all about moderation, right?!? :)
Thank you Janice I have been wanting to learn to make yogurt. Can you make smaller batches like a half gallon of milk and if you don't have a cow what kind of milk do you get from the store?
Hi Angela!! Oh, you can definitely make smaller batches of yogurt. Just put a rounded 2 Tbsp. of starter yogurt into each quart jar that you're making. It you don't have fresh cow's milk, you can always use store-bought milk. I would probably try to stick to whole or 2% and it'll work out fine! 😃
If I buy store milk, should I buy whole milk, 2%, 1% or skim to make yogurt? I will have my husband run to neighbors and buy a gallon from their dairy farm, but for now or for others that can’t get farm fresh milk, what should we buy? I’m excited to make our own yogurt! Thank you for the video!

You're amazing. I love yogurt, but it's so expensive now. I'm learning so much from you. It would be great if you could make a cookbook. Can I please ask for more prayers. @@ozarkfamilyhomestead For the Caramelized Brown Bread Crumbs 2 cups crustless 1/4 inch bread cubes. 1/2 cup water 1/2 cup sugar, plus 2 tablespoons for sprinkling 1/4 teaspoon of salt 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter, melted To Make the Brown Bread Crumbs Heat the oven to 350 degrees F. Bake the bread crumbs on a parchment lined baking sheet for 5 to 7 minutes. Remove from the oven. Leave the oven on. In a medium saucepan, combine 1/4 cup of the water and the sugar and cook over medium heat until it begins to turn golden. Pull the pan off the heat. Heat the other 1/4 cup of water in a small pan. Check the first pan to make sure the caramel is the right color. If it's not, heat again until it's a deep amber. Using an oven mitt, and turning your face away from the caramel (for safety), add the hot water. It will bubble up and settle. Drizzle the caramel over the bread cubes. Sprinkle the mixture with the rest of the sugar. Add the salt and butter and toss the bread crumbs to combine. Spread the bread crumbs back over the parchment paper and bake for 6 to 7 minutes, stirring every two minutes. Slide the parchment onto a wire rack to let the bread crumbs cool. Once they have cooled, break them apart. Then you just add to your favorite vanilla ice cream recipe. I hope y’all like it. My late mama loved it.
I grew up on a dairy farm and made yogurt from raw cows milk. We had Holstein cows so not as much cream on top. No need to skim off the cream. Jersey breed milk has more thick cream than our cows. Miss the homemade yogurt these days. Sad to say I now live in the city wondering if I could still make yogurt from store bought milk.
my health worker is amazing she is from Lebanon and cant understand why people buy yogurt lol she makes it from scratch once a week for her family as they use a lot in and on the food they eat .......since i cant do it because diabetic neuropathy in my hands hugsssssss
Oh, please don't feel guilty!! I just like being able to do this on my own. Plus, I own a dairy cow, so I'd feel guilty buying store-bought when I'm milking our own cow! :)
💜Good to see you today! I’ve never made yogurt..not even in my instant pot. I’ve tasted plain yogurt and I’ve eaten it in place of sour cream on a baked potato, otherwise I don’t know much about it except eating the flavored kind from the store. 😂 I’ve put away my fair share and that’s the truth! For nearly 2 years I could only eat yogurt, cottage cheese, salad and a few other things that my upper gastrointestinal system would permit. Question: Is there anything you can’t do? You put me to shame! 😜 Your kids are so sweet. And good looking. Rebeckah just makes me want to hold her in a rocker or a porch swing and sing to her or tell her stories. Kids are the best. Was thinking about Sarah wanting 12 kids. I know she has seen the birthing process from living on a farm and is in no way naive but I couldn’t help but wonder if she would still be saying that after her first delivery. 😂 Of course, God made us women strong and full of maternal yearnings (not everyone) so sweet babies are being born everyday. My niece, Lauren’s friend just had identical twins a few weeks ago. Delivered at full term. Warms my heart every time I see her post a photo on fb. I’m rambling too much. I am a chatterbox but being ill and being alone gets lonesome sometimes. Don’t guess you know much about that, huh? 😂 my love to you all. Glad your kids get to spend time with their grandparents. We spent summers in PA With my Grandma. It was amazing. Bye now…for real. 🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️🥰🥰
Oh Vikki, I always love hearing from you!! I'm hoping Sarah continues to want a large family as I want to have lots of grandbabies! :) I am cherishing these sweet moments with Rebekah because I know I may be getting too old to have an 8th baby. My outlook has certainly changed from my days as a young mother compared to now as an old mother. Sarah, David, and Abigail are now spending their time at Grandma Camp and I know they're having an awesome time. Samuel, Andrew, and Anna returned home happy, but worn out...which I'm pretty sure is the way it's supposed to be when you're staying with Grandma and Papa. :)
Somehow you are never alone on the internet but I empathise with the loneliness while been unwell.I have always had a fear of twins and identical twins still freak me out in my 70’s . My mother almost married an identical twin and funnily I have two friends who are identical twins but I have never see them together. Take care.
I can see the thin line from cream to milk. My husband has a fetish about people washing their hands. When i prepare food, he is constantly asking me if I washed my hands 🤪 I would love to make yogurt one day. ❤ Jenny from Sandy, Oregon

They have found the culprit of my swelling in my abdomen. There's a blockage and possibly stones in the bile duct. I'm going to the hospital tomorrow for a more evasive test. It looks like surgery is eminent. 😢 This is all from the accident. I'm a little anxious. But I really want this taken care of. Your videos make me happy. Thank you for that. Hugs, love, and prayers to all of you. Lana Banana😊
lanatrapp1589 Saying a prayer for you, may God bless and keep you
Lana!!!!! You can absolutely have more prayers! 💕 Please give me an update on your hospital testing whenever you're able. You can private message me. The children will want an update too. (Oh...and I love that you signed your comment as Lana Banana!) 🍌
I love homemade brown bread ice cream ❤
I have never heard of this, but now you have me intrigued!! :)
@@ozarkfamilyhomestead For the Caramelized Brown Bread Crumbs
2 cups crustless 1/4 inch bread cubes.
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup sugar, plus 2 tablespoons for sprinkling
1/4 teaspoon of salt
1 tablespoon of unsalted butter, melted
To Make the Brown Bread Crumbs
Heat the oven to 350 degrees F.
@@lynnmccullough7568 Oh my, Lynn, I have a weakness for anything caramel. This one would probably be dangerous for me! 😉
So you are using store brought yogurt for making your yogurt?
Can you use store bought milk
I can see the difference in the milk and cream
Can I use the milk that I buy at the store?
I grew up on a dairy farm and made yogurt from raw cows milk. We had Holstein cows so not as much cream on top. No need to skim off the cream. Jersey breed milk has more thick cream than our cows. Miss the homemade yogurt these days. Sad to say I now live in the city wondering if I could still make yogurt from store bought milk.
I could see it so i am coming for ice creme
Can I add in vanilla during the milk cooking process? Might be a silly question.
(from Shawn) Janice says she would think that should work.
my health worker is amazing she is from Lebanon and cant understand why people buy yogurt lol she makes it from scratch once a week for her family as they use a lot in and on the food they eat .......since i cant do it because diabetic neuropathy in my hands hugsssssss
You’ve made me feel guilty. I’ve not made yoghurt for ages. I’m getting way too lazy lol. Thank you Janice xx
Oh, please don't feel guilty!! I just like being able to do this on my own. Plus, I own a dairy cow, so I'd feel guilty buying store-bought when I'm milking our own cow! :)
❤
Way easier!
Karen-Aussie can U make coconut yoghurt the same way do you know...???❤❤❤
I don't know about that one, Karen! I've only ever done it with cow's milk. 🐄
@@ozarkfamilyhomestead you Rock Mama Janice! ❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻🎉
When i prepare food, he is constantly asking me if I washed my hands 🤪
I would love to make yogurt one day.
❤ Jenny from Sandy, Oregon
It's not difficult at all, Jenny! I absolutely believe you could do it! :)
Can you ma,eit with store milk
