I'm not a great bowler, but Mark Roth is my vote for the greatest bowler and a role model for anyone interested in bowling. RIP Mark, I know I will always remember you!
I absolutely agree with you. I grew up watching the PBA Tour on ABC, watched it every Saturday for many years from the early 70's through the early 90's and the bowlers then where the absolute best. The skill of these bowlers were amazing. Mark Roth and Earl Anthony were my favorites!
I'd love to meet Guppy Troup--he's from my hometown, Columbia SC. :) ...meeting Mr. Roth Legend wouldn't be to bad either! How ironic that his only major came against Guppy. Both guys bowled their best, but Mark deserved to win.
I can respect that Guppy was surprised at the 4 pin, but it was left off his hand it looked like. Kinda tight, like he didn't give it enough room. Take it with a grain of salt, because I probably won't be there to throw to win the US Open.
I agree. Even though they have some tough oil patterns now, the equipment that they have access to is way better ,it is similar to golf, in both sports the equipment now has so much technology they can put the ball exactly where they want it. Bowling was definitely alot harder back then, and don't even get me started with two handed bowling. Smh

He was a POS off the lanes

I love that there is NOT 10 BALLS ON THE return.
Anyone else here after Kyle won the 2024 US Open?
Great match !!!!
Guppy worried about taking a fast ball off the elbow?

1:22! I thought the "one-time" call was actually a fairly recent "rooting" call. Awesome to see it's been around for a long time!
LordPye yeah it doesn’t seem like guppy. What?
I think Guppy worked himself up too much watching Roth doubling in the 10th
I love Mark Roth..spoke to him many times...big ranger fan....be well Mark!
Another great upload.
I remember these days as a kid. Probably hard on barbers because you could get your hair cut once every four months and nobody noticed.
that AMF 3 dot ball that Guppy used is a hard ball to find now :-)
overland park Kansas...pool and ice skating with the bowling. fun as hell. empty now.
How did it empty out
think it became a furniture store for a while. bowling in KC is dead almost. weekend black light bowling killed the leagues.
I LIKE 👍 OLD SCHOOL 🏫 BOWLING 🎳.
Guppy?
guppy is such a class act and an amazing personality, always considered himself more an entertainer than a bowler
Anyone want to comment on the devices on Puppy’s arm?
Roth drilled a new ball that morning!!
55 second mark bubbles from trailer park boys possible father
🐱🐱🐱🐱
Meant the guy in the background not guppy! Have to look for him!
I cant believe the braces on guppys arm
awesome match!
I feel like Mark had way too many lucky strikes during that game but hey when it’s your day it’s your day
Luck is key for most precision sports. I always say my Prayers to increase my chances!! LOL
He's the Phil Mickelson of that time having to deal with Earl Anthony all those years.

Roth may have carried some sloppy strikes, but that shot in the 11th was great.
LOL at the guy screaming around 3:27 :D
You get that kind of carry when your Mark Roth lol.
Ernie Schlegel might be not sure about guppy
he had a wide array of wild trousers and shirts and reminded me of a modern day Charles Nelson Reilly
This was a great match! Guppy outbowled Mark just like Dick Ritger did in the 70 TOC telecast against the late Don Johnson.
Guppy definitely outbowled Mark... should've carried that strike in the 8th frame!
more because this is youtube, and that person is likely 7 years old.
What a class act.................ROTH!!!!
Oh yeah Rott good going
Isn't Guppy legally blind?
No, he was born in scotland. 🤦♂️
Ugly pants, sunglasses, and antics make a bowler not worth bowling against.
How about the devices on the gup’s arm.
tour is wayyyy better then than it is now. wayyyy tougher conditions ,you had to earn every strike, unlike todays cartoon bowlers.
