    I waited on Jerry Stiller in 1987. I was 23 yrs old and not very good at my job, but he was very kind.
    the next night I was out to dinner with my bf and we were seated next to him. he was having a business dinner or something, but leaned over and said “remember me?” and we all had such a nice conversation. this was pre-Seinfeld, but I knew him from his comedy act with his wife. such a kind, kind man.

      My grandmother passed away 3 years ago and in her final years we would watch The King of Queens all the time. That show will always remind me of her and I just started re-watching it in the past few months. Such a great show and Jerry and Kevin had such great chemistry together. Maybe one of the more underrated sitcoms ever. I notice the tributes to Jerry tend to actually overlook this show more and focus on Seinfeld, which of course was a classic show, but Jerry was on The King of Queens for 9 seasons. For me that was a much bigger role for him than Seinfeld and I remember him more for that and of course his stuff with his wife.

    I know exactly what Ben means about this being a weird time for him. I lost my parents within 5 months of each other in late 05/early 06. When they go, it's very sobering to feel so incredibly bereft and alone and weird to be without them. There's no generation ahead of one anymore, and it's so sad and, well, weird. When one is close to parents, the loss is staggering. He has my deepest sympathy, and I hope being able to watch their performances from countless TV shows over the years brings him and his family comfort.

    "Serenity Now!" What a star. He truly had me crying so many times, and when my sister does anything wrong at family events I shout "You're dead to me!". Then my mother shouts "Don't say that!", I shout "Its from a show" and there I am, my sister laughing, my mother shouting, my dad just folding his arms wishing he had taken precautions 48 years ago and there it is is, as if by magic, I have created a little bit of Costanza Festivus madness in England. I appreciate that one of those lines is from King of Queens but thats ok, because my sister has never seen Seinfeld whereas I have them all on DVD, but she is a King of Queens fan. Love from and Englishman in France. Rest in Peace Mr Stiller senior Sir. Bless you, and as for Ben Stiller, well, all I can say is that the helicopter scene in 'Mitty' also caused me to make a leap... I watched that movie against my will (because it was a gift from an ex), at The WORST time of my life, and it really hit me! I have been in the air ever since... Not quite high enough to look back at Planet Earth yet, but at least I am now on the launch-pad. Thanks, the film is a motivational-masterpiece, one that I have since passed on to someone else in greater need. I will buy another copy and perhaps keep it in my medicine cabinet... I recommend everyone who is lost and at a crossroads does the same. 🏆 🇬🇧

    The stolen bike story really speaks to what kind of person Jerry was. First, he was willing to run for blocks to chase someone and try and get his son's bike back. Then when he realized the situation of the kid who stole the bike, he let him keep it because he figured he needed it more than Ben did.

      The bike story reminded me of my son,actually two. The one time I hunted the kid down after my son saw him ride by as we were just driving on an errand.I hunted that mofo down! Prob cuz it was a motorcycle. The other kid.. yeah.. that kid left HIS bike which had a flat on the porch & took my son's crappy bike so he could get home....a couple towns away. When the cops got him,my son went to ID the bike & realized the one the pilferer left was way better than the 1 he had!! But ya know my son saved up his newspaper route for that bike. It was the principal.I didn't press charges n the cops were so mad.Eh..he was a kid trying to get home. Not good but I knew his parents would have to pick him up @ the station,so...figure that would be punishment enuf!

JERRY then made him promise to go straight and no more stealing.. work for what you want STORY and LET HIM KEEP THE BIKE>>>> what a smart Earth Angel Jerry was and IS.... God BLess Him--- He truly was a kind hearted man....

    • @dreamingrightnow1174
      @dreamingrightnow1174 4 года назад +1

      @@realitychick8903 I figured that would have been how it went. As a parent who's son has had two bikes stolen, if I could have caught the person, I can only hope that I would have come to my senses once I confronted the kid.. but if I'm honest, I don't think I would have at the time. I love that Jerry was obviously really pissed off to run the kid down, but then was able to let his better self rule the moment. The older I get, the more I realize how powerful the benefit of the doubt can be, but whether it was truely a transformative moment in the kid's life, we'll never know, but it clearly made a powerful lesson for Ben and parenting should be about that; not strategies for theft recovery. RIP Jerry Stiller.

    I know Seinfeld was known for it's memorable supporting characters, but I still can't believe Jerry Stiller was only in about 26 of them! I can't imagine the show without him

    Both of his parents were icons...so funny. I also came from loving parents and after the second one passes, you feel so alone, like an orphan. Ben's parents made us all a little happier. I hope the memories of his parents gives him peace and many laughs. Time has a way of bringing those memories back which makes us all feel closer to those that are no longer here.

    To see Ben Stiller with grey hair tells me how long his father got to watch him grow. Jerry Stiller lived a long life and got to see his children grow old. Thats beautiful. RIP Jerry Stiller. We love you.

    Oh, Ben is so sweet to acknowledge the pain of others during this sad time for him and his family!
    I remember his parents on television when I was a little girl, and I loved them! My family was quite dysfunctional and scary at times, but the gift of laughter they brought into my life was so special! And to see a happily married couple together was so comforting.
    We knew their gifted, public selves; Ben and his family knew personal, private people. I am s happy they were all so blessed by each other,. Peace.
