The kid represents traditional art forms. His father represents teachers or gurus who made the art what they are. The kid was made fun of for being different as traditional art forms are made fun of. The bullies were supposed to represent the millennials who bury it alive without giving it a chance

Actually it's not that. That's a very one-sided way to look at this. Kathakali as an art form is respected pretty much by everyone in Kerala, and we're proud of it. The real answer is much more nuanced than that.
Guys there is another message hidden in the song. The song is saying about the people who abandon their real culture and also they demotivate the one's who following old culture.Its hard to maintain our real culture and arts these days everyone is behind foreign culture

As a young boy who used to get bullied in school days, I can feel this song and gets tears every-time I hear it. I just wish humans do not bring up bullies. Bullies are made by their family and society.

Loved this reaction. It amazes me how the Navarasam MV has been almost undiscovered on youtube reaction channels! The video's theme is about the slow death of traditional art forms, the family represents kathakali as a whole , but is expanded to include all art forms, and likewise, all differences among ppl, as you had pointed out. The bullies represent the pop-loving, fast track, trendy society - if you do not assimilate, you will eventually die. Throughout the video, you can see ppl losing interest and walking away during performances, and at the end, Lord Krishna takes the soul of the father who has passed away... as now there are no descendants to share the art with...
Thaikkudam Bridge have themselves admitted that their Navarasam album was extremely experimental and dark, though the title is an iconic one! Their new album, Namah, is more cohesive, and as always, with myriad sounds and all songs feature legendary artists! My fave songs that I'd love you guys watch/listen to are: Kanne (this one has an MV), Nee, Neeli (amazing horror-rock)... actually the entire album is a vibe, lol, if I go on, I'll just end up listing all the songs. I'd love you guys to do an album review of Namah!

It's not about how kathakali artist are treated or about their family...It's actually depicting...the traditional art form is being buried
This song is based on NAVARASAM, Means 9 expressions of human. Like fear, sad, happy etc. In Kadhakali the artist using these facial expressions for narrating a story. Here the band tries to show the expressions ( NAVARASAM ) through a real life situation and the facial expressions of an artist. If you watch this song keenly, you can watch all 9 expressions in both form. Here I want to mention one thing that AR Rahman really exited on this song and he congratulated the band through social media. Another thing a Kadhakali artist spends few years to learn these NAVARASAM !!!
